You need to wire in a dump valve for the air bags so you can dump the bags for low bridges etcetera from the cab we have them on our lowboys it's a big help just throw the switch before you go in and air up once through.
HOLY MOLY are you a talented driver! WOW! Those were some butt-puckering moments, even for US too! I was so happy you didn’t have to back-up! When you first started, that’s what I was afraid of … you both are so good at what you do. “Wait to see how this pans out …” famous last words. Great job!
Time to go old school, mount on the top front two corners of the trailer “curb feelers”. Short stubby antennas that are 1/2” taller than your back platform. They start scraping you’ve got 20+ feet to reach
Been through that tunnel with momentum several times ! 13’6” baby is toight! I hate the two way traffic and narrow lanes , always ass puckering and I’m a tractor trailer driver . Great video guys as usual
Dang! We have followed you two since the beginning. That has to be the most puckering video you have produced. Then again, it proved that if you do not try, you will never know. What a great example in team work, decision making and determination. ❤
I’m am so glad you made it through that ferry. So glad the boat and your Rv were ok! Great job Todd of driving the rig. I’m a following you both on yo your next adventure. Can’t wait to see your next video. See you both soon! Safe travels. Have a great week. And weekend.
As a trucker, I prefer Rand McNally GPS. They do make the federal road atlas, so presumably the most recent and accurate height/weight restrictions. I get a map update @ every 90 days.
Good video guys!!! Enjoyed it, especially with dramatic music thrown in there👍😃 We understand the length issue and tight quarters situations which restrict us in our ability to maneuver, as our setup is 67ft, that we full time in. Just remember these 2 rules, I learned from the best maritime pilot while docking ships. - An inch is a mile. - Go slow, you can get some mo (more). Go fast, you don’t last. 👍😃🍻
We went through the Chesapeake Bay tunnels in June and can totally understand the worry and concerns you guys were feeling. It’s your home; is all the planning and research going to work out. The time spent worrying leading up to it. The lanes feel just a smidge tight. 😊. Thank goodness there is a rest area after crossing to pull over and walk it out. 😂. Loved the video and seeing the height clearance. We met some semis going through and it just looks so close from rv roof to ceiling. It also just made so much more sense to go this route for us if we fit. It was an adventure.
You are braver than I am bc I would have driven around. We pulled a 11.5 high travel trailer through the tunnels in May this year to visit Cape Charles and that was stressful enough. Thanks for sharing your travels… stay safe out there.
Early in my trucking career (1991 or 92) I went through the Chesapeake Bay tunnels. My truck was no more than 13'4". But my cb antennas were 13'8". I never got checked & went through. My antennas rubbing the ceiling all the way. The Eisenhower Tunnel west of Denver is more critical. Going east, I set off the alarms & had to lower my antennas before I could proceed.
WOW - I need a drink or a sedative! Way too much stress for me! Just an awesome job manuvering... slow, cautious will win the game every time! Doing awesome!
Came across your channel from a TH-cam short. It’s crazy because I used to “camp” at Homestead CG every single weekend in the summer. And you literally parked directly across from my grandparents old travel trailer that they had permanently placed there as a beach home for the summer. What a small world!
LOL, Great episode. I have been on that ferry many times. Our family vacation in Stone Harbor, NJ. We have taken the ferry from Cape May and back for the fun of it. It's so cool to watch you travel in the location I grew up. We have tickets to see you at Troegs besides going to the Hershey RV show. Hershey is 45mins from home. I can't wait to meet you both. Super excited. Safe travels to PA.
OMG, I almost peed my pants when you went through the enclosed tunnel. Kept saying don 't bounce. Dude you could have stuck your hand out the window and touched the top of the tunnel. You are doing a really good job and all you have left is the ferry. Good luck!
Oh my goodness you had to be sweating it on that one. Glad you made it safely on and off. A little too close for comfort for me. lol! Nice work and safe travels! - Mike and Shelley
When I was very young we lived in that area! I remember the tunnels and the “roads in the middle of the bay! Was not my favorite place then and again when in 2000 we went across and through them! Glad you made it too!
Nothing like a nice, stress free day on the water!! At least it looks like calm seas. I know the streets of Cape May very well…. Some can be very narrow and challenging. Travel safe!
I live in the Richmond area, and my Airstream club used to go to American Heritage RV Park every spring for our “maintenance rally”! Next time you’re there try Pierce’s BBQ in Lightfoot.
Todd, are you sure you don't have a trailer air dump valve set up in the tractor? If not, have them installed. It will dump the maximum air for the height your trailer can safely travel at. All controlled from the cab. Just another reason we call it 'The Dark Side'. Safe Travels.
Ok you wont believe this but you guys actually saved me! So there I was leaving my house late for the cape may lewis ferry and to make matters worse getting stuck in a ton of traffic! I was supposed to met my mom and some friends at the ferry as a walk on but I was nearly 30 minutes behind schedule by the time I arrived in lewis! My mom was trying to convice the boarding staff to delay boarding as much as possible but they assured her when the captain said it was time to leave she would have to board without me. Over and over they insisted that boarding was about to take place and they couldnt wait any longer. I pulled into the station and ran on the ferry right as the captain called for boarding to finish. Everyone was puzzled how I managed to make it despite being so late. Now we know the reason! It was your giant RV loading onto the boat that delayed things enough! We saw your RV unloading as we exited the ferry on the cape may side and all commented about how amazing it was that your rv fit on the ferry and how your rv must be the reason I made it on the ferry. I know it wasnt your intention to delay the boat but seriously thank you I would have never heard the end of it from my family and friends if I had missed that ferry! Also crazy that I stumbled onto this channel today! Not entirely sure what your channel is about other then RV stuff, I was watching a video on roof top campers before this one lol
WOW I was holding my breath and praying at the same time. How scary was that!!! I hope that’s a been there done that and you don’t need to do it again? You’re so brave!!!
I drive semi, but Chesapeake Bay bridge and tunnels are incredible. I have been through them a couple of times in my semi truck with 136 trailer. Actually for only 13 five. But do your research on the Chesapeake Bay tunnels and bridges the documentary about it is incredible. Also yes the tunnels were made for the Navy ships and other ships to go across. Because the Navy yard is on the other side of the Chesapeake Bay bridge and time.
Welcome to Hampton roads Va. this is my home town area. Lots to do lots to see. Enjoy yourself. Normally they do not allow rv’s to go through the bay bridge. They take 95. But I have seen semi trucks use the bay bridge. You need the truck map app. I have seen semis on ferry’s. They are just fine.
Great job, i couldn't breath parking on the ferry. I would differently ask ti have a air switch in the cab. You shoudnt have to adjust the air ride adjuster. Thats absurd. You could also have auto tire inflators but those are a bit expensive for all those tires. But an option.
You should install an air bag valve switch outside near the axles for situations like this when one inch makes all the difference. The truck already has one, you need one on the trailer.
I lived on the eastern shore for years with a big 5er. You can go around the Cape May ferry in the same amount of time without all that stress depending on what your destination is.
Need to get you some roof / clearance cameras to put up on top so that when your going under stuff you can have some eyes up top to see were you who'd otherwise not be abile to see and still be inside the cab kind of like your backup camera except a rooftop camera

Hi guys , just to let you know a easier way to measure your trailer height I ran a level across the top of the RV and measure down the side to the skirt rail and printed a label there with the distance which was 11’. I used to work on the water and an old sea captain told me “going slow a mistake will be a small mistake. Going fast a mistake is a BIG mistake!”
So true!! Someone said slow is pro - people might get frustrated with us but it’s better than costly errors!
You need to wire in a dump valve for the air bags so you can dump the bags for low bridges etcetera from the cab we have them on our lowboys it's a big help just throw the switch before you go in and air up once through.

Hi from the Bimber's,
Hello there!
How long are you when truck is connected to trailer?
You have to ask yourself does the time you spend readjusting height save you more time in your drive than you spend adjusting.
It’s all good things to learn regardless- road life 😏
