the positive of it is when youre on the edge of sneezing but its not happening, if you run over to a lamp and stare at the bulb, you can force the sneeze to happen
Out of curiosity why is this a positive? Isn't it better when on the verge of a sneeze to let it subside?
@@nazeradom When you force the sneeze to happen, well you feel like you just sneezed and nothing special, but if you don't you have this weird feeling that I can't really explain that really bothers me.
Oh and I sneeze too when I look at bright light and to me it seems like after sneezing the light becomes a bit less bright
@@nazeradom Not at all letting the sneeze fade away is one of the most unsatisyfing experiences, snezes are such an amazing feeling

I found out about this in 1st grade. We walked across the playground to get to lunch and damn near everyday I would sneeze. My teacher got curious, did the 90s version of googling, and found out about this.

1:00 that is exactly what I am thinking right now. People always laugh at me when I sometimes use my phone's flashlight to make myself sneeze, and I'm like "it works tho", and they act confused. I guess this is why.
hmm that does not work for me. I only get the reaction when I look up at a blue or partly blue sky. not artificial light nor the sun if it's lower in the sky.

I've noticed this. I don't sneeze all the time when I look at bright lights, but if I have a sneeze that just won't come, looking at something bright will usually push it over the edge. It doesn't even have to be actually bright, just brighter than whatever's immediately around it. A gap in the curtains, a light bulb, or the reflection of a light on a dark screen have all worked for me reliably. Only if I already have a sneeze coming though.

I'm a sun-sneezer, but I had no idea it was not something that effected everyone until I was in my twenties. A friend was struggling with an almost-sneeze that wouldn't come. So I told him to just glance at the sun.
He just stared at me like I had two heads for a moment before asking me what was in the cigarette I was smoking.
After a very confused conversation I learned that light doesn't make most people sneeze.
This is their least-viewed video (247K views), not counting "Announcing a Podcast That Nobody Asked For" (133K views).
Can't wait for next mistake video. Though, whatever the title actually gonna be, this orginal title will always be better.

I have photic sneeze reflex. Just to make one point clearer, we don't sneeze all the time when we're outside on a sunny day. That'd make simply walking around quite difficult. It is usually triggered when there's a big change in ambient brightness level like going outside from indoors. It is also helpful looking at a light source when you have a reluctant sneeze that doesn't want to come out full force.
It’s actually really helpful if you ever need to sneeze and you can’t just look at a light. That’s why I love it

This is really interesting. My parents taught me that if you're on the _verge_ of a sneeze, just look into a bright light. Anecdotally, this works.

I always thought, assuming everybody had this, that it is a prevention mechanism controlled by the brain and not coincidental, because nearly everybody closes their eyes while sneezing. Meaning the PSR would be a reflex of the brain to prevent you from damaging your eye.
It's quite a thing to have had this all my life and only learned it was a thing a few years ago, and then to have had to double down on conscious sneeze control when outside during a pandemic.
I always love telling people this happens to me, because the reaction is always either "wtf, that happens to you?" or "wtf, that doesn't happen to everyone?". It's specially fun at social gatherings, because you'll have both groups surprising each other with their reactions xd
Now the thing is that i sneeze everyday 4x in a row one or few times a day. Tomorrow I have to check if that's related to the sun or if I'm allergic to life, simply.

I relate to this title on a sprit level, all my videos files for a tv station looked like this before just before uploading.

You missed what I consider the most satisfying explanation: that we sneeze when we emerge from our cave so as to not infect other cave dwellers😊
But that is an explanation of why some of us evolved to have this trait, not how it biologically works. HAI only focuses on the latter.
