Goku was no where near as fight obsessed in OG Dragon Ball. He’d fight criminals if he encountered them and challenge fellow martial artists if he ran into any, but he didn’t go around constantly looking for the next strong opponent. He was happy to go on adventures and spend time with his friends without needing to train or fight people constantly

Hit was holding back during the tournament because he was not allowed to kill people, most of Hit's arsenal is one hit kill moves so he just resorted to time skip and a few punches to make sure they could survive it. Goku hired Hit to kill him so that he could face off against him going at full power since he realised that Hit was holding back a lot in the tournament
Isn't it kind of infuriating that it actually makes complete sense that Goku would hire Hit to assassinate himself? For fun? No other character in any show can I say that about. Goku is truly one of a kind.
I can think of dozens of characters who would do this. Basically any overly confident/cocky overpowered MC would do something like this just to humiliate their opponent or show off how strong they are for fun.

Well, he does, that's why he's so deadly. Power level wise, Hit isn't actually that strong, but his techniques are so well practiced that he can punch far above his weight class.

Technically they’re not filler since the anime and manga are separate continuities. Toriyama gives bullet point story notes to the anime writers and manga writer then they each do their own thing. The in between episodes are simply what the anime staff chose to add themselves based on Toriyama’s notes. They didn’t need to buy time and add extra episodes they chose to add extra episodes themselves to show what was happening in between each saga. As a result the episodes are technically anime canon not filler
Dragon Ball has proven before that you can break dimensions with sheer power so it makes sense that Goku was able to break through Hit's pocket dimension.
Goku's rather criticized for his lack of intelligence in Super (admittedly, not without reason) but the heart-recharging energy ball trick was a REALLY clever idea.

The only thing this 2-Parter has going for it is the whole “who hired Hit” thing. Once you find out it was Goku, that’s it. There’s no rewatchability here. The opening of part 1 in Universe 6 and the ending of part 2 with Chi-Chi & Goku are the best things about it, after watching it for the first time.
