    I was living in the UK in the 1970's.
    Things were terrible until Thatcher took control; she single-handedly saved the country from complete ruin.
    The UK desperately needs her (or someone very like her) again right now.

      Iazzaboyce
      I lived through it.
      The evidence was all around me every day.
      Militant union power, led by Scargill, were destroying the economy and had to be stopped.

    • @Iazzaboyce
      @Iazzaboyce 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ***** Your'e at it again! 'I lived through it' Lived through what? What 'evidence'? 'Destroying the economy' How? Did you know that previously restricted papers have been released which show Scargill was telling the truth about the extent of planed reduction and Thatcher lied to the country. Did you know that today the UK imports 50m tonnes of coal each year to generate 40% of its electricity?

    • @Iazzaboyce
      @Iazzaboyce 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ***** I also lived in the UK during the 1970s and it was a much better place than it is today. For instance there was an average of 1.1m unemployed. Thatcher campaigned on the slogan that 'Labour isn't working' then increased unemployment to 3.3m in 2 years fiddling the figures and creating a chronic unemployment problem the UK has never corrected. Yes there was short-term gains for some as state assets were sold off cheap.

    • @1000frolly
      @1000frolly 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Iazzaboyce
      "it was a much better place than it is today. ".
      I actually agree with you on this one; it is because after Thatcher left office, the country was allowed to slide back into socialism, which is why its in the pickle it now is in. There is a massive debt that will never be repaid; huge problems with uncontrolled immigration and out-of-control spending on 'green' lunacy, all of these problems are due to the UK's continued membership of the EU and the UK's socialist policies.

    • @CelticKiwi55
      @CelticKiwi55 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @moonbeam As with many things in life, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The UK desperately needed a lot of things to change and Thatcher was the architect of almost all of it. As for selling off public housing, ye there were millions of public houses sold off, a lot were sold very cheaply and the money raised from this sales was supposed to go into building more public housing, but very little did. What it did do was to get millions of people into house ownership for the first time and get them out of paying rent. That also saw the rise in wealth when the price of houses rose. She did take on the unions, thank God. I lived through the 70's and 80's and it was bloody ridiculous the way the worst, not all, of the unions treated this country and decimated our productivity, inventiveness and investment in our core industries. So we have a lot to be thankful for - however, there is also the part where, in the later years of her leadership, Thatcher would not listen to those around her and, in my opinion anyway, let the power go to her head. It is for that she generates such a divisive reaction. For the record, I think the first half of her reign was hard but absolutely needed, the next quarter was, on balance OK but the last quarter she was terrible. And during that last period of her time in office, I left the UK to live overseas. Hopefully you will appreciate my balanced viewpoint.

    • @louisetaylor2131
      @louisetaylor2131 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paul Johnston yes I do appreciate your views, I lived through those times too and much of the hate for M Thatcher came from the unions and the poison the leaders of those unions spread about her .... not for the intellectual mind I believe to take such a shallow view. My family all own their own houses when none of our grandparents could do so and yes we are thankful for that opportunity. We did not buy a council house but houses generally were cheaper because everything became possible. My husband was a miner in the long strike and we did suffer hardships during that period, BUT I could still see that M Thatcher was right in her actions as Scargill was a Marxist and the miners did not vote to strike. It took a strong leader to lead our country out of those dark days and the Iron Lady will always be a heroine of mine ..... also I do hope Boris can follow in her footsteps. Best wishes

We need the work ethic to be built back into the work force. A fair days pay for a fair days work. More high teck manufacturing that pays high teck wages not coffee shop jobs. Stop rewarding failure. Stop giving jobs to women because there are women it not doing Uk any favours. Return to best person for the job regardless of color agenda that the most talented rise to the top on ability.We must take the feminist out the class room and start producing winners again. A lot to be done and Boris the begining of the end of blairite britain and Britains part in EU. Start investing in wales ,northern Ireland, northern England . Not spending 130 billion on construction contracts in Eastern Europe thats hinded from public view in the EU extras file..Our young people deserve better than low paid consumer economy. With the lowest wages and highest house prices in western world. Give our young people the opportunities to work they way out of socialist EU flat share. The will work longer hours and work hard for rewards like they parents and grandparents before them. Give them the opportunities to better themselves.

She did 3 things which put thousands of pounds into the pockets of the working classes. 1, She cut income tax from 33% down to 22% 2, She allowed people to stop paying rent for the rest of their lives by allowing them to buy their council house if they so wished. 3 She privatised the utilities which ( until about 2 years ago ) gave us the cheapest energy prices in Europe. In 1987 the Tories ran on the platform of 'Britain is great again, don't let labour wreck it' sadly eventually labour did wreck it, probably irreversibly, but no party could run on the the platform the 'Britain is great' today.

      Labour created the NHS. Tories created crushing Austerity.

    • @ProfHarveyCrichton
      @ProfHarveyCrichton 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thankyou Mr. Someone. no hassle even has that wrong....NHS was a cross party agreement.... Dr.s; were not paid in the country , they were paid with vegetables and rabbits and people wanted free NHS. Average UK health care per person is £6250 per person per year. Very few pay that in a tax a year...Most tax comes from CORPORATIONS.. then RICH PEOPLE... then poor people most of whom payt next to nothing tax or cost tax......... if you have a better way of Govt...or keeping people busy and running a economy in the modern world that creates high paid jobs and wealth let us know in actual econmic terms no hassle man.
      Austerity was kind of ineviable due to increased competition in Asia ...over last few decades..in a word China.
      Noone plucked this out of thin air to force on people...... to make people miserable you know...
      Atlee also squandered the Marshall plan loan from the USA by nationalising a nation into inefficiency and debt until 1979 costing UK hundreds of Billions of £ by wrong headed thinking..as Keynes was an English gentleman and went to Cambridge they ignored Hayek the one right economist was Austrian.. Post War Germany an economic miracle until 1962 on a bombed out nation on far less money........than was lent to UK..... and people still moaning........ Keyens left a report on Atleees desk when he was PM. It was a total disaster...
      Read economics books and shut up.

      @@paulod27 Labour created austerity by taking over a well balanced well managed economy in 1997, then maxing out all the credit cards.
      Austerity is the result of Labour's overspending..

      DHewson Piano a bit of an update, Boris has done just that and WON a landslide victory.
      People can take only soo much of being told how awful they are just because they are English, or because they are successful, or because they had the temerity to be born white, or just because they are white they are a racist (this is the belief of AOC and her Twitter followers)
      Boris and Trump are the direct backlash to this stupidity.
