Thank you. I was only looking for bulb replacment stuff for my ex and came accross your video and added it to the things i need to do to future proof my ex.
Not a bad idea I have the same problem with my 2000 lariat le diamond plate illuminated running boards they're still solid but rusting out like the you have underneath it
I bought the running boards in my video from the Runningboardwarehouse. These are similar to the ones I bought for my video, they don't carry the type i had bought for my video anymore. I could have used the ones I bought just the way they were but they are black with no lights, I wanted the orginal look of the tan with lights. I took off the abs plastic outside and only used the extruded aluminum inside them to attach my orginal Excursion plastic to as shown in my video. It is a little bit of work drilling holes, but in the end I'll never have to worry about the running boards rotting out. I would contact running board warehoise to see if they are the same length as the Excursion and have extruded aluminum structure under the plastic like in my video. If they are then you should be good. As our Excursion get older, parts get harder and harder to find. Thanks for the question, I hope this helps you out. 😊👍 runningboardwarehouse.com/p/ionic-factory-style-running-boards/v/ford/excursion/2000/
Joes Golden Garage Excursions are known for rusting out the rocker panels but repair panels for inside and outside rocker panels are available for the front, middle and rear doorway to the wheelwell. But not the rear quarter panel lower front of the wheelwell or I can't seem to find one yet.
Zero Fuel Required that’s good to know because I have been pretty tore up about it. Amazing what Ohio winter roads do to a car. Here in GA we don’t know what rust means
Joes Golden Garage just search on Google or where ever "ford excursion rust repair panels" there's a bunch of places that sell them. All the replacement panels are all probably made by the same company.
Where’s the light plug in? I bought the same running boards off a 2004 Excursion and repainted and rhino lined them. Plan is putting them on my 06 F250
The wire from the running board goes up behind the front wheel well to the frame and plugs in to the harness. If your truck never had running board lights then there may not be that part of the harness on the frame to plug into. For a long time Ford has made a lot of accessories easy to install by making a main harness for all trucks that has accessory spots in the harness plugged off with a sealed plug until you add an accessory, like adding trailer light socket in the back. Buy a ford factory trailer harness, find the plug in the wiring the runs in the frame near the back, plug it in and you can now hook a trailer up and plug in the lights. Want trailer brakes? Buy a brake controller with harness and look under the dash to plug it in. Viola you have trailer brakes. I don't know if there is a difference between Excursions and f250 main electrical harness. The main harness on the driver's side might have accessory spot plugged off where you would plug in the running boards. You'll just need to find the section of factory wiring that runs from the running board plug to the main harness up on the firewall for each side of the truck. Find an Excursion in a junk yard to get that section of the harness. Or run new wires from them to under the dash behind the fuse panel and find the wire that powers your interior light to hook to power the running board lights. I hope this helps. Thanks for the question.
Great video buddy, you gave me a few ideas. I'm literally having the same problem. My only issue is I have a 2006 Navigator with running boards that extend out and retract with the opening and closing of the doors. Both motors are shot and I don't care to have them move anymore. Now if I could just find a way to weld them into a fixed position, and replace the rusted out panel underneath, I'd be fine with that. I tried the company you left the link for but they really don't have any options for my car's year. I know its a long shot, but any suggestions?
MadMatt8880 the nice thing is the running boards I bought to repair mine are aluminum that can be easily cut to fit other vehicles like yours and they are strong( I'm 255 lbs and they flex very little under my weight). It'll void the lifetime warranty cutting them up but who cares at that point. Take and unbolt your running boards completely from your body. I'm sure if you wanted fixed position running boards you can go to your local metal supply and buy enough 1 inch box steel to weld together some L brackets for less than $15. Or get some 2 or 3 inch aluminum C channel to make L brackets which will cost a little more maybe $30 and get a professional welder to tig weld. They usually charge about $2 an inch to tig weld. Usually professional welders are very helpful in recommending how to build something and you could get lucky if they have scrap laying around from jobs you can get cheap or free to build your project. Then have them weld it together. Then put the plastic covers on and no one will even know. Thanks for your comment, I hope this helps and good luck.
Sounds like a waste of money since you discarded most of it. I would just go to home depot etc and get a piece of aluminum that would work. Also, paint all that afterwards.
Aluminum this wide / long enough to be the size of the running board and is strong enough to support the weight of an adult. More than likely isn't available at your local hardware store. I've got massive metal supply company not to far from me that I can get the exact size I need in aluminum at cost. And it is still cheaper to buy the running boards in this video. Good luck.
This is company and the link to the running boards I bought from, a month ago I paid $268 free shipping. The price went up to $298. I searched around on the Net and can't find them any cheaper. Good luck. Thanks for the comment. runningboardwarehouse.com/shop-by-vehicle/ford/excursion/ionic-factory-style-running-boards-3800903075.html

If you want crappy Chinese made running boards or tube steps that are going to rot out in a few years you'll maybe save a little money or do you? If you want to maintain the stock running boards and buy the factory replacement steel to repair the rusted out ones. The factory steel are more expensive than buying the set I bought and using the extruded aluminum out of them. These will outlast your vehicle. I searched and searched for my best and cheapest Avenue. These are it.
well i went pressure treated wood and coated them with rubberized undercoating here in MN and is still strong after 3 years with no weak areas anywhere.

Zero Fuel Required Thanks again. I'm gonna start calling places tomorrow.
Waiting for it to be back in stock. Ugh
How could you bolt it back together with not treating the chassis and running board mounts?
