People jokin' about "just face east," but the underlying concept is valid. Waves in SoT originate roughly NW and travel roughly SE - always. This means that if you're sailing N, W, or NW, you're going to get a lot of interference from the waves because you're fighting against them. Whereas if you're sailing S, E, or SE, you're going to be mostly moving with the waves. And if you go NE(ish) or SW(ish), you'll be traveling along the waves (and therefore you'd actually probably get the least interference going either of those directions). Since you and your opponent are most likely to be circling each other, this means that if one of you is going NE and the other is going SW, you're on pretty even footing. But if one of you is going NW and the other is going SE, the boat heading SE will have a significant advantage on both cannons and helm because they're getting much less interference from the waves. So although your helm may not always be able to "just face east," most throwdowns on the waves have at least a couple of choices for how to engage. Generally, if one of the options is "position so that we're sailing North or West as we shoot them," you can know that option is bad; and if one of the options is "position so that we're sailing South or East as we shoot them," you know that option is good.
Just a slight correction to what you said at 2:20. A cannonball hit will always open a tier 2 hole by default, any subsequent hit at an unrepaired tier 2 hole will result in a tier 3. The point being that cannonballs won't open tier 1 holes, those are due to other factors (bonks, fire etc). Other than that 👍
Cool tips. Mind doing a quick guide about Boarding enemies? More than usually trying to engage as a 2-man Sloop we find ourselves that the enemy wont even try to cannon us, they just straight try to sneak up on us
boarders are extremely hard countered by you moving. and even if they could catch up to you, just turning the ship away from them halts their board attempt entirely. as for them being sneaky... just pay attention to what's happening around you and the "soft" launch of a pirate being shot out of a cannon. or you can just do the whole crew team up against one guy thing.
Boarders are honestly less of an issue on a sloop compared to any other ship type. It's the most responsive, so you can turn away from potential boarders if you notice them early enough quite easily. On top of that if they do board, the ladders are right by the wheel, so easy to get to from up there, but also the ladders go up the sides so you can shoot people on them from the main deck and from the back of the ship. Finally if they drop your anchor, it's extremely quick to pull back up even if you're solo (or a crewmate is boarding), so the risks are minimal. That's in addition to the sloop just generally being the easiest to keep afloat, if you can keep boarders off and the mast up you're basically never going to sink.
I was under the belief - unless this has recently changed - 1 balls do not damage ship hull, and regular cannonballs do minimum of tier 2 hole, only chain shots can create tier 1 holes. Otherwise good video for cannon tips
Also after snapping mast its a good idea to aim for section they hold onto to raise mast for 1 balls (only do this if they do not have ability to aim cannons, if they are shooting cannons at you then always aim there)
@@joshua2848If you're playing with a friend or group you can also have someone putting holes in while someone does that, or have your helmeman snipe at them. If you know their ship already has a good amount of holes you can also use blunderbombs to keep interrupting their attempts to raise mast/anchor.

what about how high i should aim? my balls always fly right at a really good spot on the enemies ship but fall just short cause i didnt aim high enough and then if i aim higher it goes over? or is this just because i wasnt facing east?
A planked/repaired hole is the exact same as if you'd never hit that spot in the first place. Example: you hit 2 cannonballs directly below a sloop's cannon opening a tier 3 hole. A player goes and fixes that hole, then you hit the spot they just fixed. That will only open a tier 2 hole even though visually it was a planked tier 3.
if u boarded and ur defending top deck throw blunder bombs at the stairs to stop them from bailing water and remember that this also works through the floor so on the sloop u can use their supply of bombs to keep them downstairs

As I understand it, the waves travel exactly South-by-Southeast.

Helmsman here praying that my cannoneer doesn’t find this video or he’ll constantly yell at me to turn east
fair enough
i’m always turning east, i’m sending this video, maybe my crew will get the message

Boarding when possible and spreading fire when possible around the cannons, helm, and staircase does great work too

What was the cannon you used with the chain at the end and where do you get it? At 2:47
Did you find out?
what about how high i should aim?
my balls always fly right at a really good spot on the enemies ship but fall just short cause i didnt aim high enough and then if i aim higher it goes over?
or is this just because i wasnt facing east?
The rings on the cannon barrel also work like a reticle
So I need to consistently hit give my left side…… while also maintaining a spin….. how tf am I gonna use SE as support
as a bilge rat, i am the jack of all trades when my helmsman is good enough to dodge enemy fire
In all honestly the blooming cannon flare is the best in my opinion
Seems good tips thanks.
I have a question about repairing. So if I will hit same repaired spot will it break the plank and make hole bigger, or just replace with other hole?
A planked/repaired hole is the exact same as if you'd never hit that spot in the first place.

spring blossom cannon flare on top

Funny how none of this matters because people just board your ship to fight

Imagine your worst case scenarios. Now have a plan for them, and apply such worst case scenarios to your enemy.
never knew the waves always followed the same direction or that chain shots did extra damage to wheels in addition to masts, huh
we need how to aim the chainshots its so pain in the butt
go in hourglass and practice chainshots
Give them things to do instead of shooting back at you

i'm sorry but this guide sucks. it's basically "don't miss," tell helm to go east (haha), and try to one-ball people.
there is actually 0 information in this video, completely useless
1:19 is it a thing? someone test it?
it is, as the always always go SE. keeping angle with enemy boat as you account for the waves is a different story tho
yes :)
