I was moving from Virginia Beach to Tucson, September, 2019, and so0mewhere between El Paso and Tucson I stopped at a rest area and saw the most beautiful tree, with orchid-like blooms and an intoxicating scent. I snipped off a small twig with leaves and blossoms in hopes of identifying it upon my arrival in Tucson, and the morning after arriving, as I drove up to my new home, I found the street lined in Desert Willow and there were three in my yard!
I was weeding my garden and found eight volunteer desert willows from the one in our front yard! One of them is already four feet tall had a shooting branch at the base so I lopped it off and put it in a pot. It had some offshoots, so I took those and randomly stuck them in the soft soil from the monsoons. Butterfly bushes usually grow this way too.
I just planted three Desert Willows of the Bubba variety (as seen in this video) in my Cottonwood, AZ yard. I’m super excited about all the flowers AND drought tolerance (important since AZ will likely one day have water restrictions like CA).

Got a plant from Etsy Healthy Harvesters in CA because it’s the healthiest tree in the public park in San Jose drought conditions.
