I love this tree! I have one in my front yard and it grew big really really fast. I live in NM and we have rocks in the front as of now. Doesn't need much water. The only thing is when it grows in the summer, you have to constantly trim it or it will look wild and there's always a lot of growth but that's also what I love about it. If I planted an oak tree, Id be dead before it provided any shade for me lol!!

How's it looking now 6 years after?
I'm trying to produce some of them now. I placed 3 in the park and 2 are already flowering.

i live in the mohave desert 20 miles, s. of barstow and have two of these in the yard, about 15-20 years old. they were cut off at 4ft years ago to make them bush out and not be so tall. they drop all leaves in winter,it gets down to 20deg each year here. they make a nice shade tree and produce alot of flowers in late spring and summer, the more water you give them the more they bloom and yes they are messy!!, seed pods all over the ground ,when the flowers drop off the wild rabbits eat them.i have alot of rabbits, water dish gets moved arround the yard each day and waters all the trees and provides water for lots of birds and critters , even road runners come for a drink, and yes the humming birds love the necter and so do the bees. i trim then each year for shape and its no problem for the tree. they are somewhat drought resistant, a great tree and looks nice. i use a leaf rake under tree twice a yr its easy. great tree you will love it

This is a Chitalpa not a desert Willow. The desert Willow has very thin linear leaves. The fatter leaf is of Chitalpa which is a cross of chilopsis and Catalpa.

Hello, I just planted my desert willow in my backyard and it is starting to grow! I think it may be too close to my fence, it is about 2 feet away from it. Do you think I need to dig it back up and move it further away? Thank you!

it seems like you are showing Chitalpa tashkentensis instead of Chilopsis linearis

The leaves do look different. I was wondering about that.

Very good video - nice work. Thank you. Would suggest a close up of a flower because they're very attractive and the colors can be dramatic.
I'm looking for information on the root system because I planted mine not far from the main water line and I'm afraid it may have to be removed... do you know if the root system is invasive? Will it seek out the water line/joints and eventually cause problems?

Terry A What's not too far?
I'd say that the most important factor is in growing this tree from seedling to ensure a strong taproot.

a 5 gal desert willow is about $15 at the home center in the spring, dont over fertalise it, it should have instructions on the tag, remember it gets 15 ft in dia if you let it so allow enough space
