Imo, ESO is Fantastic. But it's SO BIG now, that it's So Hard to pick back up. - It's so big that when you jump in, there's a million different directions you're pulled in. Leveling ur mount individually, buying bag space to carry enough inventory, player housing, Crafting is enormous, Leveling not only ur class and skills but weapon skills, and the Champion system is So Deep now, along with PVP elements that if u don't do you miss upgrades and events. - It's just so Massive... Like 8 different DLCs with like 15-20 different sub chapters.
GW2 player here, the reasons mentioned in the video and by Asmon is one of the reasons GW2 appeals to me. The only reason I never got into WoW is because it had a subscription system, but I bought GW2 once back in 2012 and I still have it. I can stop playing right now and take a multiyear break, come back and my gear and progression is still relevant. I'll always be at max level and my gear will always be best in slot. Some people don't like that and that's fine.
@@RedGalbot You need to meditate.. :) I usually play game thats respect me and my time with quality story, great gameplay, huge epick boss fights open world i just love open world thats visually beatiful where i can do what ever i want.. I dont like games that make me chase invisible rewards i have enough of that in real life .. xD
@@RedGalbot End game content gives rewards. It makes you stronger up to a certain point. After that you can farm for stuff like legendaries. The stats are the same as the previous tier, but it lets you change your gear stats on the fly, for free, which is a huge QoL and gold saver.
Former Wow, SWTOR, GW1, GW2, FFXIV player. I've recently installed GW2 again from Steam, starting all over with new character. The game is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and ear and doesn't overwhelm me with battle mechanics that makes one feel obtuse. GW2 and FFXIV are two games out of all of them that please my solo exploration and freedom to try different classes and jobs without feeling compelled to grind otherwise you will fall behind and be an outcast. The communities are non toxic and the game rewards you when helping others. While I really liked my time in FFXIV, I cannot justify the monthly subscription for the available time I have at this stage in my life, so GW2 it is. But wholly recommend GW2 or FFXIV to anybody that is not a High Gear Grognard unless they want to be. I tried to get back into Wow and created a character in MOP, but after 7 or 8 levels just found too grindy and not as fun as I remembered, plus the cartoon graphics no longer appealed. I will probably buy the GW2 Expansions at some point, but base game has plenty to offer for now. Even if one purchases all the expansions, GW2 is economically a winner compared to monthly Wow or FFXIV. Something else to consider in these economic times as well.
I'm you but more FF14 inclined than GW2. Still also my 2 favorite of all time MMOs and my choice to go back to after a break. They both respect your time, are not money hungry and are packed with content.
I loved GW2 in the past and still like it. Played it back in 2014-16. EU Server. Where do you play it? If EU and it's still hold its values as you said am willing to return to it :D
@@silentspade310 I'm on US, and yes it still holds its value, I'm still going through original content, and haven't even touched End Of Dragons expansion nevermind the new one that just came out. There is so much content and so much to do, it is incredible. I was just playing the base game content when my son bought me all the expansions and Living World seasons for $99 for Father's Day. I'm good for the next ten years of my life. 🤪
Came back to Guild Wars 2 after 1,5 year and I cannot stress how much fun and content there is in the game. The new expension has beautiful maps and story. The new sub classes are amazing. Community going strong with multiple content creators who just the best.
I just returned myself, and it's a bit like coming home. Not necessarily as cheap to play as some might think, though. I wanted my nephew to try it and so I bought a copy of the latest expansion for us both, then realized it didn't include all the previous expansions and had to get them for the nephew, then realized that I had to buy some of the story content so he could get the mount he really wanted, and before you know it I had spent somewhere around $130 ;)
@@Rustyshackleford1911 Depends on what you want to do, there is a lot of 10 man "Raid / Boss" content, 5 man Dungeons like Mythic+ from WoW, PvP or large scale PvP and a huge amount Open World and story content
SWTOR my main thing with the game is I simply want more content for it and the new updates seem short. The biggest offender was the latest expansion felt like a patch update rather than a big expansion it was built up for because it came out near a big anniversary for the game. But tbf there was alot of game systems overhauled for the expansion so they were probably focused on that.
Haha I one of the first one preorder guild War 2.(i got like in game ring for that I guess? I forgot). Trying to go back after 8 years not playing. I have no idea what I doing haha.
Played GW2 when it was released on 2012. Got bored after grinding it for 2 years. Hopped on to WoW, FF14, New World then Lost Ark. But sadly, aside from FF14, all of them got repetitive, unnecessarily grindy, too much bots and P2W. Went back to GW2 during the newest expansion and i am hooked once again. The best thing about it is even after my long hiatus, i didn't feel left out. Yes i had to catch up with the story and past expansion items without spending real money. Gw2 just respects your time whether you're a super casual or a sweaty grinder. Cant wait to hop on back to FF14 as well..
Man, I am playing the game for 9 years and still haven't gotten to the point where I have to repetitively farm anything. Its just SOOOO MUCH things to do in the game.
@Genadi 'Enomir' Georgiev i know right! I mean there are repetitive stuff in the game but once i hop back in from work, i lose track of what to do next coz there's a lot from living world, to fractals, to WvW, to expansion stories, elite spec masteries, mount masteries, alt characters specs and raids/strikes to name a few.
I've been having so much damn fun on GW2 over the past year. I'd started in 2012, and left and came back multiple times and everything was still there waiting for me every time. If you're looking for a constant gear grind progression, this isn't your game. But great if you're a collector, this game is all about doing what you want on your own time.
I think it would be hard on him to react on gaming content like swampletics if he doesnt know much about the game itself. Maybe the Gielinor Games might be an exception though, since it's more like a reality show than gaming.
Just started Guild Wars 2 and I'm enjoying quite a bit so far. Lots to do and easy to get into. Don't think I'll go back to New World. Too many interesting new stuff coming.
I don’t play anymore, but as someone who has played dozens of mmos I will say Gw2 has the best explorations and puzzles. Very terrain and landscapes. Unfortunately I value combat a lot so it wasn’t for me, but it’s a great game and worth trying out
@Q That's actually an interesting take; as someone who has also played dozens of MMOs and has been playing GW2 since 2012, I'd say combat is one of GW2's strongest aspects. The combat is more fluid than any other MMO I've played, and the build theory crafting is very dee. Since there is no gear progression, there is way more of an emphasis on how your character's build, and the party compositions are much more dynamic.
@@kukurydzasmazona Actually gw2 is not f2p f2p version is basically a really extended trial. You gotta at least buy path of fire and heart of thorns expansjons to get full experience of the game
I've enjoyed GW2 for 10 years, though it definitely had large periods of drought; I'd say it's in the best shape of its lifetime after you factor launch. I'm eagerly awaiting news for the spring roadmap.
Didn't they say a while back there were gonna be no new expansions, then they decided to make the most recent one? I can't remember where I heard that. I hope they keep going, I only played GW2 a bit but I really liked it. The world seemed lively and engaging and the main story quest was really cool. Just don't have enough time to play WoW and gw2.
I played beta to late PoF and fell off after for many reasons but as an old vet that’s really wonderful to hear. Hope End of Dragons is treating you well!
@@beeman4266 Something like they 'didn't have plans for a new expansion' then Icebrood Sage tanked, but EoD did well - and they decided to go for an announced 4th expansion within 4 weeks of EoD's release. I hope to hear some news within a several week's time of what we're doing next.
@@mitchellradspinner4491 Narratively, it was only eclipsed by Season 4's content I would say. However, it is far and away the best presented narrative of the game, especially where it comes to expansions. HoT is still my favorite for all that it did for the game in general, but EoD is a strong addition, though not without its own problems. Either way, it's got more positives than negatives.
FFXIV just keeps quietly growing. It's 5am and if I were to jump on right now, I could find people to do content with. There are Hunt Trains going 24-7. There are probably thousands of people hanging around Limsa right now just taking Gpose screenshots. It's the most alive game in the MMO genre, at this moment. Thanks for bringing XIV to a new audience, Asmon. If you never get around to it again on-stream, it was still worth it--though it's a little bit like stopping WoW after Hellfire Peninsula. Peace bro.✌😅

Guild Wars 1 and 2 have always been my favorite MMORPG's of all time I will never enjoy any other MMO as much as I have GW2. The comunity is just amazing too

I'm glad people are finally enjoying FFXIV, but after nearly a decade I needed a break. Guild Wars 2 has been fantastic for me and what I'm looking for in an MMO nowadays. It's so easy to pick up after a break, doesn't ask you to do repetitive tasks including dailies and weeklies if you don't want to. There's a huge variety of content if you don't want to have a raid-focused endgame. It's honestly just fantastic, and has a little something for everyone.
Oldschool Runescape is truly such a great game. There so much solid content to do, mechanics to learn. People may think it's just a point and click game, but it takes legitimate mechanical knowledge to complete some of the harder content. The skill floor might be extremely low, but the skill cap is also extremely high.
@@aaronsound Oldschool Runescape is one of those games where there is no right or wrong way to play the game, you gotta set your own goals based on what you discover about the game. That's why it's such a popular game to watch despite being an mmo because the content creators keep finding new ways to play the game that keeps the viewers interested.
I think not every MMORPG should have one big mega server. At least there should be mega servers for multiple regions and/or languages. There are a lot of people who prefer playing on a server where everyone speaks the same main language. FFXIV did a good job giving players the opportunity to play with friends on other servers since there are free temporal server and data center travels.
I've been playing Albion for a little while now, and I'm starting to look into different MMO's and need some serious recommendations! I really like the feel of Albion a lot and the crafting system. It's a smidge too grindy for me though, but I really do enjoy it. The open world PVP aspect to it is really intimidating for me though, cause i worked really hard to get my gear and don't want to lose it. It really feels like that meme of "Well, what do we do now?" "Now? Now we can play the game" I'm currently looking into Lost Ark. It's a bit overwhelming right now, but I'm sure the more I play the more I'll understand everything. It just felt like a mobile game, logging on for the first time and getting a bunch of free rewards and prizes for doing literally nothing. I'm really curious about looking into New World. I've heard good things about it, I heard the game has similar aspects to Albion, which is encouraging! But I keep hearing a lot of people give the game a lot of flack for reasons, I do not understand. But on the contrary I've heard a lot of recent positives. "The most recent updates are showing really good improvements!" etc. I hear nothing but good things about Guild Wars 2. But for some reason I feel a bit timid about trying it out. I don't know why, but maybe some insight will help me out. Any and all recommendations for any game will be GREATLY appreciated! Again, I really like Albion and the way it feels and plays. From the crafting, to the community market, to the combat. But the PVP feels a bit predatory and the fact the top guilds in the game control the entire market is really discouraging. Especially the idea that I can't check out other in-game content such as bosses and go to different cities without entering a red zone.
you shouldn’t work really hard to get gear in albion, though. 8.4 shit is for safe hce content or if ur a streamer and want to duck around cause u have unlimited resources. most ppl don’t even go in mists in t8 anymore. obviously outside some avalonian weapons, 10-15 6.1 sets on buy order shouldn’t take even more than 5% of ur silver. no reason to go into bz or roads in anything more, unless ur guild is dropping an hq maybe. join a guild and they’ll even regear you with the expensive shit if you fight with them and actually try. basically, the economy has so many options to stack silver and then going in and pvping and winning is ofc an influx of silver since u get to loot everyone. it’s a win win win situation as you improve, you just have to die quite a bit to learn how to not die and learn to look at ur entire equipment load out as consumables as ur potions are. also ABUSE BLACK MARKET IN CAERLEON FOR FREE MONEY IF UR SCARED UR GONNA GO BROKE. at any time of day, any day, some item on caerleon market directly bought in bulk and sold to black market right outside on bulk is going to net you 1-unlimited depending on ur patience million silver with maybe 45min to an hour of work
my computer wont run guild wars 2 anymore but. when i played it i quit for like two years and then picked it back up, not really knowing anything a guild recruited me and they were super welcoming. taught me how to rebuild my character and helped me learn things i never did before like dungeons and such. And the best part in my opinion is the hourly world boss's. just going from boss to boss with people collecting each ones kill every day was so fun to me.
SWTOR is a good game, but it's certainly more on the casual side. You can make it more difficult through hard modes (even making the levelling harder via a difficult option) and I am sure they have their own raid system and the like. You can single player the levelling and there are certain Flashpoints (the game's dungeons) that you can do with your story companion and an A.I. It's worth checking out if you're looking for a simpler MMO levelling experience that is more story-centric like a traditional game.
BDO Player here and have been playing for many years. I'd say now is most absolutely the time to jump into the game and get back to grinding. It still has some P2W elements, but since the switch from KaKao games, the game has become A LOT more new player friendly. All the stuff they "forced" you to buy back in the day (pets, maids, silver is not weighted, etc.), you can now easily get for free just by doing Seasons and MQL. Even if you "P2W" by selling fits or melting for crons, it'll still take some time to gear up due to limits on the market. The game is also heavily skill based (of course gear based too). But so long as you're decently geared, you can kill higher GS players with ease if you know your class well enough. But overall, the game is still a HEAVY grind fest getting geared for PVP. If you're not into mob grinding or PVP, then the game isn't for you. BDO still has THE best combat of any action MMO on the market. And being PVP focus is a huge plus in my book.
bdo gear progression is still like that but there's so many free good gear for new players to catchup now and its really easy to get the gear from market now compared to before There's literally a streamer that is speedrunning an EU account from 0 to 700 gs in basically 1 month or 2, after that gear score it returns arent as high from getting upgrades and way more expensive / time consuming
OSRS is easily one of the best mmorpgs of all time. The reason it STILL has such a large player base after 20 years is a testament to how good the game is. The devs care about the community and they poll all new content. The versatility in how you can play also is hugely beneficial. It offers a great experience for the causal, or sweaty players. 10/10 game and I’d highly recommend anyone who is looking for a fun new game to give OSRS a shot.
@@ryuzake5263 u literally can? on their own client, steam client and runelite on the jagex launcher itsself which isnt really "3rd party" anymore. devs caring about the game just because of rigged polls is a stretch though. it is getting better though the amount of content coming soon is pretty big.
I don't know how it's right now, but a couple of years ago I made an ironman account on OSRS (I play rs since 2003/2004 and main on RS3). I wanted to start out as f2p to get some basics and preperation done, but noticed a very big bot player base (or extremely anti-social). In RS3 it often also takes a minutes to get a respond, because the player is doing stuff afk, but at least I got a reply. I also have a simlar account on RS3 (ironman that's f2p), but get a response from nearly all players. How does this translate into the member world? Because of my personal experience in osrs and rs3 I'm not sure which one has a higher active player base (I don't count bots).
@@Vincrand osrs has a higher player base. They're both infested with bots though especially f2p. Osrs probably has more bots due to the gold being worth more
@@azothdesigns 4 to 5 years ago the bot population in f2p was roughly 100 times bigger in osrs than rs3. Wouldn't say both are invested by bots. One had 5% players and 95% bots. The other had 5% bots and 95% players. After that rs3 got another bot ban hammer. Since then I haven't seen bots in p2p, maybe I'm just not in the right location to see them.
TLDR: SWTOR always brings me back just like wow does at times. (i have to still do a bounty hunter.) Star Wars Galaxies was the first mmo i could convince my folks to let me play back in the day, SWTOR has always been a great experience. It hasn't died because honestly it almost feela like a single player game storry wise. It's not Galaxies but it has so much diologue and options to be dark AF (sith roleplay is best roleplay)
I also love how runescape old school is still popular! Had so many holliday weekends getting friends into that game. Good times. Ahh the Nostalgia is real guys, got a sub for both channels.
since everyone comments on guild wars 2, here are my 2 cents: I've played a lot of mmorpgs as a teenager in high school. many bad ftp ones too. flyff, rappelz, metin 2, 4story, allods, cabal. I've always enjoyed the leveling and social aspect of these games more than dungeons or raids. flyff really sucks looking back, but some of my fondest memories are from that game. the other ones where I got pretty far are cabal and allods. allods was amazing. so many beautiful maps to explore, great visuals and music (although I remember listening to "die ärzte" and the sanctuary + simple and clean from kingdom hears on repeat more than listening to the actual game soundtrack xD). But once I reached the end(game), the game was pretty much reduced to farming dungeons and raids, which bored me to death. When gw2 came out I wasn't really interested in it, but since a whole bunch of my friends bought it, so did I. They all quit, while I spent a whole decade putting 8k hours into the game. exploring the world is fun, the gameplay is very fluid, I even learned how to like dungeons and raids. while going to low level maps is in no way optimal, you still get rewards for you level while being downscaled. a lot of the "newer" content comes with huge farmable map wide events that are also mostly pretty engaging to play. there are also the mounts. man, I hated the idea of mounts back when they were first announced, but anet really delivered a unique implementation. but the number 1 factor why I love the game so much is the horizontal progression. once you have the best gear on your character, it stays best in slot (unless the meta changes ofc). the second best gear is also really easy to get. you can leave the game for a year, come back, and your character is still relevant. instead of a mandatory gear threadmill, you can spend your time hunting achievements and completing collections that reward you with new skins. heck, I didn't really need any of those skins, but still completed every single pve achievement just because they gave me something to work towards. I quit 2 years ago after the aformentioned 8k hours. I had achieved everything I wanted and weekly raid full clears and dungeons runs started becoming more of a chore to me because of how often I had already done that content. I had done countless map completions and equipped all my mains with the best gear possible. the only thing I didn't really do much is pvp. idk, it just wasn't my thing. But new players can look towards thousands of hours of fun without a subscription fee.
at 17:55 you said servers suck because they only serve to divide players. As a novice game developer I have to correct you. Servers separate the players because if they didnt, they would lag. Every player loads every world object in the scene so even if its just two people in an empty room, the server has to load four people. Two for each players screen. Add more world objects and more polygons, and you rack up the bandwidth required to play the game at a stable rate. Servers become necessary when the player base exceeds what cannot be achieved on a local host. Some games allow four players to all load in on the host players connection. Meaning three players connect to one, which is risky because that's how you can get your IP leaked. SO servers area good thing. As the internet connections speed up, so does server size.
@@themaniac8596 I don't think that's why he's not inclined to give it a try. I believe it stems from the fact that he enjoys vertical progression in MMOs and end game with hardcore content and raids. Now yes GW2 does have challenging content like fractals and raids but the gear progression in GW2 is just really lackluster and to have to grind for years to get certain materials just so you can get that 5% items boost in the end is just not as satisfying, as some other alternatives out there.
@@M0Xi0 There is no situation in GW2 where you have to grind for years to get gear in, where did you get that from? Once you hit lvl 80, full exotic gear (which is extremely easy), you can get full ascended in less than a month by just playing, and you can get ascended gear in MULTIPLE game modes, WvW, PvP, Fractals, crafting... They even gift you ascended gear with achievements. If it actually took you years to get ascended gear I'm sorry, but you were playing the game extremely wrong, or you have played the game for 10 hours, and are blatanly lying. Gear progression in GW2 has been praised for years, no one has ever, genuinely, complained about gear progression as an argument to not play the game.
@@TheFilyngAbsolutely It took me only 2 months to get both my dual hand legendaries and ascended gear. Eventho I ve been playing the game for 10 years I still come back with 0 accounts because its always fun to experience the journey again.
17:24 why is it that not a single other MMO has adopted the RuneScape server structure by having several dozens of worlds you can hop from one to another freely and play with whoever you want? A server with too many players in one place will still eventually cause massive lag. Being able to switch servers in just a couple of seconds is something that every single MMO should aim for.
honestly, leveling is pretty good but endgame content is lacking compared to other mmos. I do come back every patch to do everything once, been doing that since heavensward.
@@user-fv7jd4xj5n 100% agreed I've played the game for like 5 years now and even though there's still so much I haven't done a lot of it just doesn't appeal to me, I think the biggest longevity factor in the game is RP and the events players organize themselves who are subscribed to the game almost always compared to the occasional patch raiders. The character modding and screenshot community is absolutely insane on twitter but falling into that rabbit hole feels like a completely different experience/game.
I don't know if its lacking in endgame content but more that its...more spread out? So it has many things but they appeal to very different crowds so if you have a narrower focus you will probably finish a patch then leave for a bit then come back for new stuff. Like I have 0 interest in the deep dungeons so that is a lot of content that I will just never play. I did just get into Eureka and grinded that out. Might try Bozja later.
A lot of people shit on SWTOR and say it's a dead game but they are literally making the jump from x32 bits to x64 and it's still in the top 5 (or 10, I don't remember exactly) most profitable games for EA each year. And a lot of people still play using either Origin or the game launcher and not Steam.
As someone who has played BDO since it released in NA, you kinda need to be a masochist to stick with this game once you get to a certain point lmao. Just finished getting all of my Blackstar weapons to PEN about a month ago, (Mainhaid, offhand and awakening weapon) which have absurdly low enhancement chances. Just those items took me about a year to get to PEN and I was pretty lucky honestly. Also, 2000 hours in BDO is literally nothing. The grind in this game is brutal.
I purchased ESO about 4 years ago and only got to a level 20 character and moved on. I recently purchased a 6900xt GPU and decided to give ESO another chance about 2 weeks ago and now all of a sudden I am having a blast. The game is much more playable compared to playing on an Nvidia 1060. Plus, for some reason, it's just clicking for me right now I am currently a level 49 on one character and I have another character I started this week that is a level 17. FF14 - I might have to try FF14 again. When I tried it a number of years ago, I actually did not like it. Maybe it will be different this time around. And I agree, playing these games on mega servers would be much more enjoyable. I like BDO but the graphics popping in and out drive me crazy and I find my mind focuses on the pop in which just kills the gaming for me, although I do enjoy playing BDO, I can't play for long periods of time. Lost Ark, all I can say are bots ughhh. I have played Albion and seems interesting, although I don't really like the graphics, same with runescape old school, yet I love DND online, despite the old style graphics.
FFXIV is a very good game but you shouldn't get gaslighted by the players high on copium telling you that even if the first 50 levels with the MSQ are slow and painful, it's still enjoyable somehow (?) while It's the most awful early game experience out of the popular MMOs out there and if it wasn't a FF game, nobody would defend that.
I gave a shot to more than half the mmo's mentionned in this video and honestly, the one i keep coming back to is ESO. I like how skillbase the combat is in this game and with the new expansion, they released a mythic item that makes it easier to get decent DPS without light attack weaving properly (aka animation canceling), which is the feature that is polarizing in this game mentionned in this video. in a previous patch, they also significantly reduced the LA damage so it is not as important as it used to be. Its not a perfect game by any means (in game cosmetic rewards arent that great and the game is missing a few quality of life features + zenimax sometimes makes questionable changes regarding class balancing) but overall, it is the most solo friendly mmo out there, has the best dungeons i have experienced, has some of the most challenging end game content (in a good way) for solo and group players, my favorite gear system, the best gameplay customization out of all these mmo's and the storylines are usually pretty good (not as immersive as skyrim or as good as FF14 but definitely above most MMOs). A lot of people are recomending GW2 in the comments, which is pretty good in its own right, but i would highly recommend eso to people looking for something new, especially if tab targeting combat isnt really your thing
It's so annoying. It was having a resurgence with Onslaught. But the lastest expansion ruined that. Apparantly they went to the discord where the hardcore raiders were and took feedback from that. Means those people got the elitism they wanted and all the casuals bounced off. Absolute murder. SWTOR is a good game and deserves better. Listening to the hardcore raiders is always the way to kill your game.
OSRS is just so good. I hardly do any content that was around when I was a kid because the new raids, bosses, quests, etc. are amazing. The ironman gamemode is a breath of fresh air since I got to a point on my main where the only thing that was worth it was grinding the best GP/HR, but iron allows you to engage in content you normally would feel bad about doing since it would be a waste of time
Been playing GW2 on and off since trying it out when I didn't want to play Mists of Pandaria. It's the ultimate casual game. Perfect for me since I've gotten quite a bit older since doing progression raiding.
I went back to GW2 about 6 months ago, played it back in 2012-2014 alone with WoW and FFXIV. Now have 8 lvl 80’s. GW2 is MMORPG on hard mode and I love it!
I have like 3k hour of ESO playtime on steam, the combat is subject to personal opinion, my friend didn't like the combat system of ESO but i quite liked it and didn't have any problems with it and most of all Tamriel world of ESO was fckn huge and offer plethora of quest and location to explore. The game graphic also aged well, it was pretty good for an MMO that was released back in 2014.
The info on Black Desert is wrong. It's so easy to gear up now, that Choice, an NA player/steamer, started a 110-day 700 gear score challenge and on the 2nd or 3rd week of the said challenge found it so easy that he might complete the 700 gs challenge in 60 days only. Granted he grinds like 7hrs/day on average (7*60 = 420 hours), but if he completes this challenge, then it's pretty safe to say, that all those people saying BDO is hard just sucks at the game. You don't have to enhance to have a gear in BDO, pretty much everything is purchasable in the central market. So just grind and sell all the enhancing stuff, if you enhanced and you fail, then it's your fault, you could've bought but chose to gamble instead (2000 hrs of grind is a major lie unless all you do is gamble all your stuff away when you could've just bought everything). And the bank balance statement is also a lie, to play BDO you don't need to spend a lot of money. I will not make myself an example cause I love RP so buy all the costumes and stuff, however, if your objective is just to play the game, PVE and PVP then all you need is just buy the game or get it for free when they have promotions, buy a $50 tent(can be less, like $10 or so when on sale plus use the coupons and take advantage of the new account promo pearls on sale) and buy a couple of pets (optional, you can just go through the MQ and get free pets, then PO when there are pearl shop sales and eventually you'll have a full set of t4 or 1 t5 and a couple of t3s). You can also splurge on a fairy, but if you only need a miraculous cheer V skill, then just get another fairy to reroll the skills, no need to buy the orbs. That's it really, you can buy the value pack every month but that's up to you, the Kamasylve and Secret of Old Moon are easy to get from CM). Less than $100 and you can enjoy thousands of hours of gameplay. And if you follow Choice's example, you only need to dedicate 420 hrs (potentially) of game time to grinding and you can enjoy end-game content. You don't even have to reach end game gear to enjoy PVP, there are lots of capped contents in BDO that if you really want to enjoy it, you only need to play. P.S. You can definitely play the game completely free to play, you can craft your own tent, rely on free pets (the game gives some from time to time), use a horse as trash loot stash, and fairy skills are also easier to get now.
I feel sorry for LP, he tries so hard to throw shade on FFXIV in his videos just because it dethroned his "baby" WOW. Can't take his videos seriously anymore.
@@omegaxtrigun -He was faking being new -made a playthrough, talked shit about it and got backlash -then said he'll give it another try for realsies, said it's so much better than he thought it was -concluded with it not being his taste for the genre He obviously tried to get on the hype wave and failed miserably.
honestly, as someone who played eso for 4 years, its hard to say its so good still when the game itself has been constantly going downhill in terms of gameplay and lag. I felt forced to leave it, but landed somewhere in BDO, albion, and gw2, and i play BDO the most. Oddly, its not as pocket hungry as so many make it out to be, as the game allows you to purchase everything in game with silver, but its both a matter of how much money you have (to buy 30 dollar outfits to melt into crons so items dont explode when enhancing) or how dedicated you are to the grind to buy those same outfits for silver, or even just save up to buy the item outright yourself
Started playing Albion after watching a JSH video. It's pretty fun. It's really cool that all gear, even if dropped by mobs or found in chests, is crafted by players.
I've been grinding it for a month. The sandbox and hardcore aspect of the game make it radically different from every other MMORPG. I love the game but for the most part: i dont recommend it to my friends.
People keep saying that now's a great time to get back into WoW again... But that's the same as what they say at the start of every expansion. Most expansions start great. The problems start coming with the subsequent patches when there is either no content or there is too much content in the form of daily grinds and systems. I have held off from trying Dragonflight so far and don't plan to change that until at least a couple of content patches in to see if they actually stand by and honour this "new direction". One step in the right direction is not enough. They ened to show a tend and commitment to this direction.
@Asmongold TV Regarding BDO upgrade system I wouldn't agree with your explanation of the EQ upgrading system. Recently Pearl Abyss introduced the new mechanic for "casual" players where you can upgrade your accessories (because the system you are reffering to applies only to accessories) through questing and daily missions. It costs a little more silver (in game currency - no premium) but you have 100% guaranty and no value loss. Same goes with normal EQ like weapons and armour wher instead of luck-based enhancing you can Reform the item and after 5th reform you can convert the item into the BiS maxed armour/weapon. Therefore if you are really unlucky person or just dont want to gammble you can go with more (but balanced) upgrading process instead of "smashing two Iphons 8 together to get new Iphon 9" . Same goes the the "P2W" aspect. It is faster to grind for money and then buy (or receive from quests) upgrading materials than buying them from premium currency shop. this option is available for rich lazy kids who want to flex and honestly buying upgrading materials (Crone stones) with premium currency takes whole fun from the game - at least to me and is huge wast of money. I would 100% recommend you to come back to BDO and at lest see the changes bcs if you stopped playing before awakening release you will be SUPPRISED how many mechanics the devs positively changed.
Actually, he omitted to say that his phone metaphor applied to Accessories, Normal gear (armor-weapons) are enhanced via a variety of black stones. I suggest that Osmondgold TV come back to Black Desert when the next Season starts (current one ends in February). Create a new character, NOT a repeat of his 'hero' and play it as a normal person. BTW 40hrs? not even out of training diapers.
You should try BDO again. A guy named Choice started a challenge to hit 700 gearscore in 110 days on a fresh account without gambling or pay2win, and it's working great. That's a word-salad of gibberish if thats unfamiliar to you. But if you remember old BDO where gambling was required? where pay2win was unavoidable? It's not the same anymore. you CAN pay2win. you CAN gamble. You really don't need to.
Regarding EvE Online's player numbers, I'd just like to point out that having multiple accounts logged in at the same time is the norm. Most serious EvE players (and EvE is a VERY serious game) will have a bare minimum of 2-3 going, but double digits is common. The biggest I've seen is some 60-70 accounts going at the same time. Monitoring player count probably has no way to identify unique players, so you can slash that number down to at least a third, probably much more. A more realistic guesstimate of concurrent EvE players (that are actually playing the game themselves) is a couple thousand at most. I'm also continuously puzzled by the fact that when reviewers of MMORPG's talk about games, they rarely fail to at least mention any pay to win aspects, as it is considered a pretty big deal. EvE somehow tends to escape this scrutiny. Well, arguably there's no game, and I mean that quite literally, that's more pay to win that EvE. *Everything* can be bought for RL money in EvE. Everything. I'd say you have to fly your own ship at least, but there's plenty of elements where not even that is true. Rampant botting for starters, which BTW are also accounts that are counted.
I really like the fact that gw2 is buy to play. I also like wow buts it need too much engagement and its more hard to do break. Also i prefer gw2 progression system. Still dragonflight is cool
Cause Lazy Peon is biased af, he will do ANYTHING to put WOW on a good light. Just pay close attention at the disdain and hate you can feel in how he words the FFXIV section just cause it dethroned WOW
I was looking for this comment, there are private servers of Metin2 with more players than most of these MMORPGS, but LP likes to throw shade at Metin2 because he does not understand how good of a MMORPG it can be
In bdo a lot has changed since launch, enhancing gear is way easier now especially on season character. The enhancing you described is right and wrong at the same time, so breaking gear (disapearing) occurs only on accessories, armor and weapons will "breake" but you can repair them.
@@okie9065 true if you are looking for group content it would be harder since the only actually working group content are dungeons there are 4 of them I think and endgame grinding spots that need to be done in groups, I actually like solo gaming and grinding so BDO is my fav MMO for now, but I'm open minded for new ones, they just need to meet my requirements ^^
Fun Fact for people interested in 1 of the Runescape games. If you subscribe for RS3 you automatically are subscribed for Oldschool aswell and Vice versa! U can play both games with 1 account (though not at the same time).
I love that all the Guild Wars 2 people are commenting. Those of us who play genuinely love the game and sense of community it creates. Plus the mount system is unbeatable.
I think an MMORPG needs enough population to have high enough player density to be able to reasonably clear the currently relevant content about 2/3rds of the time of day. I think population density is an important factor, because modern MMOs are getting smaller and smaller in group sizes. You only need a few active players to do everything. If they're in a small enough area they will bump into each other and naturally deal with the content. This is where party finders are immensely helpful in boosting the "player density".
Can confirm that MMO Populations is... not quite accurate. Checked in to Vindictus, which reports "good" health and 8k daily players. Steamcharts reports 300 daily players, and the empty servers confirm it.

People at Arenanet are sleeping hard. Give this guy the amount he wants you'll get it back tenfolds. Just pay him to reach lvl 80 on a new toon in GW2 and he'll be playing the game for years to come. free long term marketing.
If they paid Asmon they'd get people from his audience, gamers who enjoy beating content and improving. That's the last thing Anet wants. They want the Twitter and Tumblr crowd who never make it to endgame so that they don't have to make new content. Buy gems, buy skins, log off. That's the target demographic. The blue haired landwhales at Anet hate games in general.
My biggest issue with Lost Ark isn't the pay 2 win... It's that the daily/weekly chores are WAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY too skewed to non-combat garbage. Lots of travel, lots of obnoxious RNG based horizontal progression. I really enjoy the combat, I was just doing too little of it each day. Edit: Also, I agree with the "handicaps you pay to remove as a subscription" model. I really liked that about PSO2, actually. Literally my only complaint with PSO2 is that the gear upgrade system was more work than like... an actual job. It was so obnoxious.
It's not great considering what Bioware was capable of back then. Not to mention Kotor fans hate what they did to Revan. The presentation is fantastic though with AAA quality voice acting. But the writing pales in comparison to FF14. And this is coming from a long term swtor player who only got into FFXIV back in 2021. That being said I love playing the swtor story and playing an evil asshole which you can't in any other mmo. It's just the quality of writing is just not there as it could have been. Sadly it's a terrible mmo. It's better treated as a single player rpg.
@@astrojeet it still the best story in any mmo and most ppl play swtor for the rpg rather then mmo part like ffxiv.swtor writing is better and more imersive .
EVE Online is a great game, and you can also be a casual player and enjoy it. I play for 2-4 hours weekly, and I still want it. I would like to see Asmongold test it.
9 month old comment but what are some activities you recommend doing as a causal player? I played a lot by myself 2 years ago but even after all the hours, I really struggled to figure the game out and put ended up putting it down.
I dont know about globally, but that 100k easily happens in Black Desert Online SEA server. every time there's a world boss, shit hits the servers hard making it lag. Even the starting town lags so much due to that, if only my pc did not broke down I would still be playing that.
It is popular. Right now there's a content drought so player counts are lower but after recent server merges all servers have a very high population (near cap). What matters more is that people like it and want to play it which means that every update will bring an uptick in players, that's extremely important for the longevity of the game
At this point I feel like some people are conditioned to sperg out the instant FF XIV gets mentioned. As if to prevent Asmon from even thinking about going back to it. But hey, that Genshin though yo.
You can tell that Asmon hasnt heard anything about BDO in a long time. The gearing has gotten a lot easier, except for the very, very top end ultra rare gear. I mean i got almost full PEN, 2nd highest tier gear in like a month. Personally i had no particular problem with the BDO gear upgrades at any point, but it has become a lot easier and a lot less RNG nowadays. But ofcourse (as it should be) full PEN, top tier gear is extremely hard to get. Especially those pesky accessories that get deleted if you fail.
I feel like if SWTOR had better marleting and had come out at a later date it would be way more popular. Its gots the Single Player RPG with MMO elements nailed with the class stories and expansions. I just finished the Sith Inquisitor Story and I loved it and am looking forward to playing through Smuggler for a completely different vibe. It does get tedious towards the end, especially since every planet has two plot threads which dont always line up in locatoon and theme, and enouncters are almost always way too easy. Overall I like it, but im also a huge star wars fan so....
I highly recommend starwars the old republic. It will be the best single player mmo story experience you can get. Also for the record as a long time eve online player, the average player has 2 alt accounts. Some players multi box many many accounts. The player base is less than 50% of what’s advertised
Not sure about the Final Fantasy one, you can look up archives of created players and almost every server on average has 500k made, and that's out of 68 servers, so lil napkin math = 34m created avatars. Now call me crazy, but I think more than 1.4% of all created avatars are active on 14.
@@PkOrPvp been solo 2 years, depends on the goal. Max spec, Max craft, Max Gathering is doable. You lose on avalonians/ZvZ but that never been my focus. You can find decent PvP in Corrupted, Mist, roads (risk if low spec), Arena, and can farm PvE Open, Group(T5 max spec), Corrupted, RSolos, HCE, HGs(2v2)... Solo is better than ever rn.
The problem with this game is the latency. I am in Australia and my latency is 350+ with constant packet loss and disconnections. Great great game but unplayable from some parts of the world
BDO is the hardest enhancement game. 300 failstacks is atleast worth weeks of grinding if you calculate it by silver, or you just waste money to craft 300 failstacks which pretty much means you fail and fail and fail over and over until you get that number, and you use 300 failstacks for gears like Obliterating Fallen God's Armour which will show you a 0.02+% chance of success.
@@mgee9130 #1 tip would honestly be to just not play it like you would most other MMOs, blasting through content to get to the endgame. That just doesn't work in GW2 and often ends up with people burning out or reaching level cap (which is well before the first expansion, so you still have 90% of the story to go plus 2/3's of the zones to explore, plus all the endgame systems to play with) and not knowing what to do. GW2 is best described as a "themepark within a sandbox": the game has a shit ton of stuff to do, but none of it is ever _required_ so the game will never push you towards doing any of it, except maybe the story. You really need to go out of your way to find the stuff you enjoy doing and you really need to set your own goals to give you a reason to do that content in the first place. My advice would be to just try out as many types of content as possible, whether it be story, open world zones and events, dungeons, fractals (endgame dungeons), raids, strikes (mini raids), PvP (arena-esque PvP), WvW (open world siege-based PvP), etc to figure out what you enjoy, then try and set your own goals within that content.
Note about having only one server, yes, it's more convenient, but the downfall of that is the lag issue, entering the game can be slow, and if there is a bug or something gone wrong with the server/goes down, then no one can log in.
For those who don't know, Guild Wars 2 is fully voice acted. The base/core game is free to play and I would encourage anyone to give it a try. It's 11 years old and with the painterly style the graphics hold up well.
GW2 has content in dire need of a rework (early/mid-game dungeons and instances) as well as paid story chapters that you're pretty much forced to purchase if you want the full experience/best mounts. Bought the base game with the expansions and the experience was kind of disappointing.
Guild wars 2 server system is the best 2* mega servers that have worlds then instances. It pushes all players to the fullest server as you move around the map to keep the world alive and I'd your instance is dead it gives you a 10 min stat boost to swap you in the instance with more players.
Idk if it's just me but I like having separate servers. Sure i definitely get all the advantages of megaservers but I feel like I kinda miss the feeling of community within a server. It's nice seeing the same players & recognizing them rather than having megaservers with channels. I don't mind either but both have their advantages & disadvantages for me.
You can still have that sense of community with megaservers, especially ones that let you control which instances/shards/channels/whatevers you're playing in. You'll often see 2-3 guilds running specific meta events and world bosses in Guild Wars 2, whether it be FROG with anything Heart of Thorns related or DCAP with the Triple Trouble world boss in the base game.
Like 8 different DLCs with like 15-20 different sub chapters.
it's my favorite right now bu yeah, it's MASSIVE😂
I just started playing WOW again after 7 years. If you are looking to start again, Black Whisper is my recommendation.
I never understood how that works. I've played GW2, but not to end game content. What is the motivation to do content that doesn't reward anything?

@@RedGalbot What do you mean by reward?

Tbh I've noticed a drop in player base since shadowbringers, at least on my server. Current end game content is rather boring, but maybe it will change in 6.35. Right now this game is kept alive by roleplayers.
Guild Wars 1 and 2 have always been my favorite MMORPG's of all time I will never enjoy any other MMO as much as I have GW2. The comunity is just amazing too
That's one of the main thing which hooked me to the game, the amazing community
gw1 for life
ArenaNet has promised to keep the GW1 servers online perpetually because their cost is so minimal. That is the sign of a great company! Any other corp would cut their losses like they do with all sorts of great products that people appreciate.
@@ratburgler thats what expansions are for? Haha. I guess it's better than paying 50 dollars for a skin, can't even begin to express how much i spent on Apex Legends. GW2 story though, is so damn good. The community, I don't think I've ever been in a community so friendly than in GW2. The people are great.
@@ratburgler What are you talking about?, you can get the complete GW2 set from Steam for $99.97. That's a bargain for all the gameplay. Especially nowadays where console games alone are $60-$70 a pop.
Its been months I dont play GW2 anymore. Im playnig New World now. But GW2 is "fucking badass" as Asmon said in the video. The game has a HUGE variety of content. Playing WvW all day long with massive zergs fighting each other to conquer towers, keeps and castles is amazing. The game is great indeed. I miss it, ill be back soon.

Gw2 read between those lines for me perfectly. Big recommend.
I don't care for it as an mmo, though. I play it like a singleplayer game.
Lol ok
How do i get in. Played for few hours but can't understand what i should do or want to?
@@aaronsound Oldschool Runescape is one of those games where there is no right or wrong way to play the game, you gotta set your own goals based on what you discover about the game. That's why it's such a popular game to watch despite being an mmo because the content creators keep finding new ways to play the game that keeps the viewers interested.
I just started Runescape 3 few days ago and it's enjoyable so far
I think not every MMORPG should have one big mega server. At least there should be mega servers for multiple regions and/or languages. There are a lot of people who prefer playing on a server where everyone speaks the same main language. FFXIV did a good job giving players the opportunity to play with friends on other servers since there are free temporal server and data center travels.
I do feel having a mega server for each region is the best way to go.
Now we can play the game"
I'm currently looking into Lost Ark.
I was rly sad that cartoony kinda graphics, it made me never try out the game.
I just started playing it again. It's been a couple years and I've completely forgotten how to play 😂so it's like brand new again.
And being PVP focus is a huge plus in my book.
bdo gear progression is still like that but there's so many free good gear for new players to catchup now and its really easy to get the gear from market now compared to before
There's literally a streamer that is speedrunning an EU account from 0 to 700 gs in basically 1 month or 2, after that gear score it returns arent as high from getting upgrades and way more expensive / time consuming
20 years out and you can't go full screen without a third party app...what a great game..xd "devs care"
Same recently returned to swtor cuz I was bored and even in the middle of the night I never have to wait long for dungeon queues.
since everyone comments on guild wars 2, here are my 2 cents:
I've played a lot of mmorpgs as a teenager in high school. many bad ftp ones too. flyff, rappelz, metin 2, 4story, allods, cabal.
Would love to see Asmon watch the Swampletics movie! It can only be described as a masterpiece of OSRS content.
I'd love to see Asmongold give GW2 a try, it would be a breath of fresh air.
He’s way to biased for that, I mean he tried measuring ingame population by comparing online Reddit users of the Gw sub
He will never try it out, the more ppl tell him to play it he will just dig in his heels even deeper
Started playing ffxiv 20 days ago because I saw you playing it. Best / worst decision I’ve ever made. I love it and can’t stop
honestly, leveling is pretty good but endgame content is lacking compared to other mmos.
Everyone cant stop XD
i stopped at level 30 , the grind was boring , mostly reading
Fact
A lot of people are recomending GW2 in the comments, which is pretty good in its own right, but i would highly recommend eso to people looking for something new, especially if tab targeting combat isnt really your thing
curious is cyrodil still crazy laggy?
eso is a mess, unfortunately@@luketexas
Man I so hope to see Asmon play SWTOR before it dies...🥺
If it dies disney woulda just pump another mmo anw, relax
swtor isnt dying it still has enough players but the dev team is to small and does 3 time a year update with some small story.
its just not good unless you like the Star Wars universe, but i agree he should paly it, it made me appreciate WoW even more.
@@_Travey swtor has better class balance, story ,side activities ,player housing then wow .
Can't take his videos seriously anymore.

honestly, as someone who played eso for 4 years, its hard to say its so good still when the game itself has been constantly going downhill in terms of gameplay and lag.
Kinda weird he's lumping in WoW Classic with WoW Retail, but didn't for RS3/OSRS.
It's got to be wow brainrot.
Cause Lazy Peon is biased af, he will do ANYTHING to put WOW on a good light. Just pay close attention at the disdain and hate you can feel in how he words the FFXIV section just cause it dethroned WOW
Even combined together, RS population is not that big... Don't get me wrong, it is a great game, but can we be less disingenuous?
@@99range92def Yup, I agree with that
No one really knows this, but Metin2 has a lot of private servers and in total they would make 50-100k+ players daily... it's insane :)
I was looking for this comment, there are private servers of Metin2 with more players than most of these MMORPGS, but LP likes to throw shade at Metin2 because he does not understand how good of a MMORPG it can be
@@ionutslabu The issue with metin2 is repetitive content and too much grinding, so its understandable it's not as widely popular
In bdo a lot has changed since launch, enhancing gear is way easier now especially on season character. The enhancing you described is right and wrong at the same time, so breaking gear (disapearing) occurs only on accessories, armor and weapons will "breake" but you can repair them.
It was good but grindfest to the core and also the group content are non existence.
I wish that they release most of this mmos to next gen consoles with crossplay, I'd be so comfy.
No MMO will ever respect your time and money like GW2.
Unironically want the April Fools content. Asmon taking on RAID:SL. Would be class if it actually happened
Also Genshin, "wtf?! we got 70m+ concurrent players worldwide?! where the fk are mmo players at?"
Can confirm that MMO Populations is... not quite accurate. Checked in to Vindictus, which reports "good" health and 8k daily players. Steamcharts reports 300 daily players, and the empty servers confirm it.
We absolutely need an Asmon reacts to Swampletics!
That would be so tight. Feel like he would need some game knowledge first though
Guild wars 2 is in the best state it’s ever been right now. It’s clearly my top MMO rn.
ffxiv peaked at 3 million daily average players on endwalker release. Thats why there was terrible queues.

People at Arenanet are sleeping hard. Give this guy the amount he wants you'll get it back tenfolds. Just pay him to reach lvl 80 on a new toon in GW2 and he'll be playing the game for years to come. free long term marketing.
Delusional lol.
The story for SWtOR is amazing
GW2 mounts are the best in gaming
Agreed. And pvp combat is so much more complex then lets say wow.
I dont know about globally, but that 100k easily happens in Black Desert Online SEA server. every time there's a world boss, shit hits the servers hard making it lag. Even the starting town lags so much due to that, if only my pc did not broke down I would still be playing that.
I wish new world was more popular, the world was really nice but that's probably the only positive it had at launch
It would be poppin if they had a major expansion launch by now
@@Chitown18 but it did.
I watch your vids while I play OSRS almost every day. I'd happily rewatch Swampletics with you
You can tell that Asmon hasnt heard anything about BDO in a long time.
GW2 is just amazing right now
I hate AGS and how they chose to timegate class releases but ill admit im a Lost Ark player for life now.
Why would they not timegate it? If they just dumped all content on you at once then they'd have nothing to release later and player numbers would drop
asmon PLEASE watch settleds swamplettics finale. the effort put into that is like a major motion picture its truly astounding.
I love Gw2, is my fav MMO
Finished the raid and dungeon content in WoW, so now I am back to FF14.
Lol to do what? Honestly what does FF14 have over wow in end game?

I highly recommend starwars the old republic. It will be the best single player mmo story experience you can get.
Also for the record as a long time eve online player, the average player has 2 alt accounts. Some players multi box many many accounts. The player base is less than 50% of what’s advertised
Not sure about the Final Fantasy one, you can look up archives of created players and almost every server on average has 500k made, and that's out of 68 servers, so lil napkin math = 34m created avatars. Now call me crazy, but I think more than 1.4% of all created avatars are active on 14.
Guild Wars 2 is free now tho, but if you buy the expansions you get access to some really sick areas and mounts.
I really hope albion gets into the mainstream, it's such a great game that can really become a great mmorpg if it gets a good coverage
Been playing since the game was in beta. The game is decent but the solo experience is horrible
Great great game but unplayable from some parts of the world
@@jeffrey5718 The new server located in Singapore will open up in march
Always something to get into.
I want to see this video now in 2024. Now there is 20k concurrent players on Lost Ark.
Eso is one of the best mmo i ever played. and still playing frequently
Final Fantasy's account management system and login is so bad though. Its like pulling teeth trying to migrate accounts or recover an account.
I'd love to see Asmon play some SWTOR! Sadly I don't think that'll ever happen...

Got any good beginner tips?
I'm having a really hard time believing that SWTOR is that low on the list, should be up at top 5 tbh.
It has 80 k to 130 k players .it should be this low but honestly last expantion really fuck up
For those who don't know, Guild Wars 2 is fully voice acted.
