The simple and quick way to reset a flashing belt light on a Kawasaki ATV

  • In this straight to the point video, I'll walk you step by step on how to quickly reset the belt flashing light on your Kawasaki ATV. Remember that the light flashing is an indication that you need to service your ATV and inspect the belt. My ATV is a 2003 model and still runs great , proving that with proper maintenance these machines will last you for many years. I hope this video helps save you time and money.

Thanks for the step by step instructions. My light came on while going 40 mph on my 2003 Prarie 650 4X4 yesterday on a gravel road and slowed me quickly to approx. 8 mph. I removed the CVT cover and found my belt was in pretty bad condition so I ordered a new belt and will replace it when it arrives. This video is exactly what I need to reset the light and restore power.

Thank you so much it’s been a whole long time since I messed with my brother‘s Prairie 700 and all the times of working on it. It finally started blinking that belt light and I started scratching my butt on it like what the heck because it was running like crap, and it wasn’t before, thank you for your time and video

To open those two four-wire connectors... find the spot with a small slot on the outer connector, on the end where the 4 wires enter the inner connector (the "top" or "front" end). Slip that small screwdriver in as close as you can to the 4 connectors, and use it to lift the locking tab a fraction of an inch.
The inner connector is just a little larger than the 4 wires, and has one little wedge sticking up. That little wedge was pushed under a small tab, and that's all that is locking it in place. Ignore all those spots on the outer part of the connectors which are holding other things together. Your goal is under those other pieces.

Thanks for the help. It worked just like you explained.
Does this limp mode happen due the sensor going bad or is it an electrical glitch in the system?
The belt on my ATV has very little usage and don’t think the belt is bad.
    Thank you again.

The wires of both black plugs do not connect to anything they are just taped into the harness it's how they keep the plug there to reset the light. On the newer models it is under the seat. Make sure you turn the key off between steps. If not it won't reset sometimes.
