Hi Lisa! I totally understand, I spent so much time researching and comparing all the companies available. For now, Cigna makes the most sense for us with the many add-on options and deductible ranges, giving us the choice to make it as custom as we want. Plus, in comparison to many, it offered the coverage we were looking for at a reasonable price. Another plus in our eyes was being able to add on US coverage, so we would be covered when home visiting and not skyrocketing the rates in the process. Of course, our choice of going with Cigna could change if we choose a place to settle longer term. Good luck in your research process - I know it was probably one of the most daunting but important tasks we had to do! Cheers 🍻
if you are in South/Central America and SE Asia, most just pay as you go, no insurance, I know many people that do that, health care insurance is a huge pain in the ass if you make a claim, and it is expensive, many "experts" say just pay as you go (except the USA of course)
When I was 27 and starting out on my career, I also got the travel bug and realized I had to make an effort to see the world before I got stuck with a mortgage and 2 weeks annual vacation in the US. Long story short, I did it by finding a job with my company at one of their European operations, thinking I'd work there and see Europe for a couple of years before returning home. Fast forward 37 years, and I am still here (Switzerland), married with 2 kids born here, and now a Swiss citizen. Did a lot of travelling throughout Europe, the USA and Asia during that time, and now approaching retirement age... got a plane ticket to Vietnam now for a 2 months leave just to get a taste of the backpacking life again, hoping I can still do it in my 60s! Great channel, BTW!
We moved from the US to Canada and we got Cigna. Not sure if it’s the same as Cigna Global, but it was terrible. It took a long time and multiple phone calls to get reimbursed for a bill. It’s like they went out of their way to not pay.
Currently living vicariously through you guys. My wife and I recently moved from Indiana to Arizona to help my elderly parents out. My Dad passed away shortly after we got here, unfortunately. We have a full-sized home here as well as a small condo. We are in the process of trying to figure out which place to keep when we are eventually able to take a similar path as you guys. I have never traveled overseas, thus will be a big step for me. I love the look of Portugal and we hope to make it over this Spring. Keep up the great work. It is always nice to gather information from people like you that are out there doing what we hope to do some day.
Sorry to hear about your father. Life-changing events can be difficult and scary but we don't think that you will regret travelling and Portugal is a great place to start. Good luck and safe travels! Cheers!!🍻
I retire early on 11/29/22 and have my ticket to madrid on 12/26/22.I plant to do the 90 day schengen in Portugal & Spain then eastern europe for a few months to save money. Single,no kids or debt and I can walk for hours. I went to portugal, france, spain & belgium in 2019 in 2 separate weeks and loved the culture and style of living.I can really enjoy my like there as there is not much left in the states to keep me here.Love your videos. Thanks.
Thank you Yankees fan! Huge Seattle Mariner fan here!! That sound like the same plan we are on. We have kids but are all grown up, we have no debt and can walk for hours. We are really enjoying Portugal. When you come back you need to experience the eastern Algarve. Such a great vibe. Thank you for watching our channel!! Cheers!!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie your welcome. The 1995 playoff loss to Seattle still haunts me to this day. Freakin' jack Mcdowell. !! I have 3 weeks in Lisbon,3 in porto and 1 in faro booked so far. Then into Spain and Eastern europe to reset the schengen 90/180 rule.I'll follow your videos.
Unfortunately for us Mariner fans that is about all we really have to hang our hats on. That sounds like a fantastic trip. We loved Porto and really enjoyed the eastern Algarve. From Faro, you can go east or west to the rest of the Algarve by train. It's centrally located which makes it nice however we preferred other, smaller towns. Our Faro video comes out Saturday.
Great video and information. My wife and I are 3 years away from accomplishing our early retirement, will be 53 then. We Have considered Portugal and Spain but are also opened to keep exploring options. Best of luck and we’ll keep following you guys!
Thanks you two! We had initially considered retiring to the Algarve in Portugal but decided that we wanted to explore other areas first. Now we travel! 😃 Good luck and thank you so much for following us! Cheers!!🍻
Hi from our home in a tiny Colorado mountain village at 9,000 ft - ❤our lifestyle and canine companions and vacation travels - enjoy listening to you ❤ happy travels 🧳🌎🧭
I set out for 1 year but into my 8th after absolutely enjoying some 35 countries with a few months each instead of touch n go, thus it's inspiring to see u2 n many others r embracing a different way of life, which is totally possible & educational, to say the least! Keep going on eh!
Thank you, Roger! We will get to 35 countries someday. We can't stress enough how possible this life is for many people. You just have to do it!! Thank you for the comment!! Cheers!!!🍻
Bravo guys, congratulations and thank you for putting this segment out. My wife and I are about 3 years behind you and are super stoked to get started. You're an inspiration - keep it up and enjoy 🙂
Our pleasure Phil. Part of the fun is planning everything out. We watched videos every Saturday and Sunday morning and just dreamed about where we will go and what we will see. So excited for you two! Cheers!!! 🍻
@Brian and Carrie I just came back from Thailand and watching your video on Thailand really helped. Now I am more interested in travelling like you guys (approaching 60 on June 1). Please keep up your excellent videos it is really helpful to people like me. My kids are all grown-up and leading their lives and now I would love to do the things both of you are doing TRAVEL. Please keep the videos coming
Great practical video! My wife and I retired early and are travelling quite a bit, but not full time. We too are very budget-conscious whether we are flying to destinations or traveling for months at a time in our truck and camper.
I love your channel. You are both so 'real' We subscribed about 6 months ago. So are just catching up with some of your older videos. Your channel is probably in the top two of our favourires. Although we will never go as full in as you. We find inspiration from what you do. Have a drink, before Brian ( great name) gets too thirsty. Best wishes from another Brian
Hi, Brian!! (Great name) Thank you two for watching our channel and supporting us. We very much appreciate the kind words and hopefully, we can jump into that #1 spot soon! We are always working to get better! 😆 Thanks again! Cheers!!🍻
Just randomly came across your video and it is so informative and helpful. I love the idea of retiring early to travel and experience the world, and ESPECIALLY to get away from the high cost of living in San Diego to a much more affordable city where I can truly be free.
Hey guys, big shout out from New Zealand! We are absolutely loving your videos because your filming is fantastic, the information you give is open and honest, but best of all you are just such lovely people which is so refreshing on this platform!! Incredibly inspiring and giving us great food for thought and maybe the push we needed. Great work guys and massive respect. Cheers! 🍺
Del, thank you so much. Your comments are encouraging and ease any self dought we may be having. Trying new things and putting ourselves out there isn't easy. Thank you again for your support and kind words. Cheers!!! 🍻
Brian and Carrie, Just sending you a shout out. I am just a couple of weeks away from my departure on a similar, slow-travel adventure. As I was watching this video, I was whittling my belongings down to one suitcase and one backpack. I had already moved from Southern California to Ireland about 6 years ago which had required me to greatly simplify my life and divest myself of most of my "stuff". Now, i am just honing that process. I am more of a "senior" than the two of you, but my health is great and I have always been an avid traveler, so this is a dream come true for me. Like you, I plan on learning to "TH-cam". I really appreciate the honesty and authenticity with which you approach your videos. As my travel plans have adapted and evolved, it looks like I am following a similar itinerary (starting in Montenegro) so, perhaps we will bump into each other along the trail and share a beer or two. Enjoy the adventure.
Hi John! We love hearing about others doing the same thing we are. Thank you so much for the kind words. We would love to meet up someday soon for a beer. We will be back in that part of the world next fall so stay in touch. Good luck to you and safe travels in the meantime. Cheers!!!🍻
B&C I just watched this clip for the 2nd time. I really admire you guys so much for being bold enough to make this move in your lives. I know many people in the US that feel they need that security of hanging on to their stuff. Sadly many, who might want to travel, will put it off and then never do it because of age, health, etc. You are a terrific inspiration for us. We also sold everything, quit our jobs and moved to Alicante. And there have been a few times I've said WTF did we do because it is a big decision. But watching videos like this one is such a valuable reminder that life should be lived and all that stuff is pretty much an illusion. Thank you both for your inspiration and "realness". If you ever swing by Alicante again we'll treat for dinner and BEVERAGES.
Thank you, Tom. We have absolutely no regrets about the decision that we have made and completely agree with all that you have said. We love Alicante and plan on a return trip someday, we will take you up on that beverage when the time comes!!! Thank you again for all the kind words. Cheers!!!🍻
Thank you for sharing your experiences and thoughts. My wife and I are ready to retire in a year and spend more time abroad. Your videos are invaluable to us as we plan our retirement. Thank you and stay safe!!
Thank you for following us. Very exciting news that you will be traveling in just a short time from now! We have no regrets on the decision we made almost 2 years ago now!
What I like most about your videos is your honesty about the pros and cons of traveling full time. So many videos only focus on how wonderful it is but don't mention problems to avoid or the reality of traveling all the time. Thank you, Happy Traveling!
Just found you guys and am watching your videos from the beginning. You are really informative and inspiring and I am loving watching your journey. You are totally rocking the travelling. Well done on really great videos 👍❤
Bello bello bello. I'm 65 years old I'm retired, I travel sometimes in Asia with my wife, we don't have children, and that you are doing is my dream. but I have bad English and a very low budget, So it's difficult for us to travel longer than 30/40 days. Sorrowfully now that I'm over 65, no Italian insurance covers me for long periods Thank for your videos Ciao from Italy
This video is awesome as my husband and I are leaving our comfortable abode May 1st with no return trip planned. We also plan to stay in one spot for a month a a time.
I was so pleased you touched on the topic of being away from Children and grandchildren. We have traveled OS for 3mths at a time before however taking the plunge to go for a year or two is a bit bigger leap. Worth it though :-)
My husband and I lived abroad for over 3 years before children. Now our last one is a senior. We have some years left to work but are planning to travel full time.
Hi Brian and Carrie. I had stumbled on one of your videos about a year ago and really liked how the two of your put a lot of thought and research into your travels. My husband and I have been living In Queretaro Mexico for about a year and we are now ready to explore more of Mexico. Although we are not traveling the world, travel is travel. Thank you for the valuable information about how to travel smart. 😊
Thank you, Anita. We will be traveling to Mexico next fall and are really excited about it. We are not sure yet about our itinerary but know we want to not only be close to the beach but want to go inland as well. We have some research to do!! Thank you again for watching! Cheers!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie ….Awesome! Queretaro is inland and has an altitude of 6,000 feet above sea level and is a 3 hour drive Northeast of Mexico City. Queretaro is very beautiful, safe and the people of Mexico or so kind and patient. We love it here! What I love about Queretaro is you have the old colonial and historical culture along with a very up to date progressive culture. Queretaro also has a very diverse culture because of the big corporations that have settled here from France, China, Japan and Korea. A lot of people do not realize that Mexico is a huge country with many different terrains and different types of Mexican food. Just thought I would give you a good start on your research and who knows, depending on where we all are when you get here, we may all be able to meet each other. I wish the best for you and Brian on your ventures. 😁🙏🏽
Great info - this all sounds dreadful to me, but i appreciate you making it clear that its not all sunshine and lollipops, so people can make informed decisions.
We also did a video about the "ugly side" of full-time travel. We actually had a few negative comments on that video, people accused us of complaining. We just don't want someone to follow our advice thinking that, as you stated, everything is sunshine and lollipops. Informed decisions!! Thank you for watching and commenting! Cheers!!🍻
It amazing that we who retire young all share the same story of how we got to retire much earlier than originally planned. Those who asks how we did it don’t want to curve out unnecessary expenses/make the sacrifices at the beginning so they can have a carefree lifestyles.
Agreed! We have and still do sacrifice things that we want over need. Our accommodations for example aren't ideal. We haven't explored some places that we would like to. We don't buy souvenirs. We want to do this for years, so some things will have to wait. Life is great!! Have fun on your cruise and safe travels!!! 😊
Found your channel as I’m going to Romania in two months but have absolutely loved your content and how real and calm it is. If you ever make it to Japan, feel free to ask for information or tips (been here 15 years now).
Hi Seth! Thank you so much, we are so happy to hear you are enjoying the content. We loved Romania, and look forward to returning in a few years. We are actually planning to visit Japan next year at about this time. We will definitely be looking for suggestions ☺
I'm travelling too, and my biggest weird fear, is returning to family, and they're different, and `I'm different. I really do hope my relationships will be in tact when I get back.
We use Instagram or whatsapp to stay in contact with our family and friends. Your better off the more you stay in touch.. When you get back your family will be excited to see you and want to hear about your journey. Your doing what a lot of people dream about doing. Safe travels. Cheers 🍻
There’s great liberation in freeing up. We’ve been downsizing over 10 years. Would like to think your courage can influence us more? Many of us have perhaps over-consumed and purchased much of which we neither use or truly need, and it doesn’t always bring us happiness being bogged down with material stuff. You are both very healthy and look after yourselves. Do you worry what the future could look like if one of you were unlucky enough to become sick and have got plans for your old age for when you do one day become frailer. Or are hoping to fall in love with a particular country and remain there. Serendipity is a great choice and we are really enjoying your travels. Long may they continue. Thank you for sharing your honesty and tips, greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Den. Hopefully, we can inspire others to take action and live out their dreams whatever they may be. We would love to fall in love with a particular country someday and remain there, that is the plan anyway. When we are old and frail, we could always return to the US. Eventually, we will qualify for medicare where our medical costs will be manageable. Thank you again for the kind words and for supporting our channel. Cheers!!! 🍻
You can keep a house at home and have a management company rent it out as a vacation rental so when you want to come home for a month or so, you just make an advance " reservation".
Sure, we could have. Neither one of us had any interest holding onto our homes and dealing with rentals. Great option for those that don't mind dealing with that or issues that may come with holding onto your property though. We like to know exactly what our monthly costs are. Thanks for watching! Cheers 🍻
Enjoyed your video. My wife and I are in a similar situation. We have not retired fully yet but we have a travel channel "Travels With Joe & Ely". We spent 3 weeks in the Algarve in Sept. 2021 and loved it with the thought of possibly purchasing but was too expensive. So instead of purchasing anywhere abroad we will probably travel to different countries/locations so we don't have to spend as much and explore and enjoy many areas. We also like to cruise. I will watch your videos to get tips on various places. Thanks!
Thank you for watching guys!! It looks like you have been to some places that we are interested in going to ourselves. We will be watching some of your videos!! We have decided to just travel for now before we settle down in any one place. We are almost 2 years in and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Thank you for watching and safe travels. Cheers!!🍻
really enjoying your videos, we are exactly where you guys were, we own a property, we feel selling everything is the way to go. We are in a beautiful location in Canada, but life is boring, we are early 60's, 1.8 million in savings/investments/property, can get 5.7% CD term deposit, we are holding off on taking our Canada pensions till we are 70, we will get a lo9t more a month if we wait, somethings I think we are overthinking everything, we were in SE Asia last winter for 4 months, this was our 4th visit.
Useful vlog post like the ones I saw previously. Keep them coming Now living in Italy for almost three weeks, looking at the Airbnb prices going slightly higher by the week and thinking like I will soon have to leave the country for a cheaper location…
We have started to see Airbnb prices increase over time as well. Fortunately there are options of less expensive places to live . Thank you so much for watching 😊
Have you looked into a repositioning cruise. In April & May they travel from Florida to Europe, then return back to Florida in October. Most are about two weeks long.
Thank you! Hanoi, Da Nang, and Hoi Ann were all amazing places. We are looking forward to coming back next year to see the southern region. Ho Che Min City is supposed to be great as well. Thank you for the sub and for watching our channel! Cheers!!🍻
Wow, that’s awesome. I am following you guys as I am in Spain visiting and planing to move here. Alicante is my top #1 because the people are really nice and cost of leaving. Been in Barcelona, valencia and soon I will visit Seville to check it out. I am exploring Porto in May because I heard Portugal is good when it come to expats and taxes.
Hi Joel! We love Alicante and would definitely go back. We are in Greece now and heading to Portugal next. We will be in the Algarve for the months of May and June! Cheers 🍻
Hi Kids, Love your channel. My wife and I are thinking about retiring to Europe soon and appreciate all your insights. One things I've noticed is that Airbnb's are significantly cheaper in the off season (big surprise, yes?) so part of my plan is to spend winters along the Mediterranean (southern Spain, Portugal, Italy, Grease...). Relatively warm weather (I'm from So. Cal.) and minimum crowds. And spend Summers in northern Europe (Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania) comfortable weather, not too many tourists, not too expensive.
Great video. Subscribed. You both have easy-going demeanors, and comfortable to listen to and hear advice from. Took note of the health insurance info! And the “stay flexible and don’t plan too far out” was a really good tip I think I’ll use. One question: how do you do your travel documents/visas? Online? Can that be done virtually usefully? Great content so far. Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing! Any visas that we needed we have done online, and it is a very simple process. Thank you again! Cheers!!🍻
We studied this for a few years and found you guys just after we started our retirement. Suprised we missed you as we started a few months behind and ended up in some of the same countries. Keep up the good work and keep the channel going. You are really putting out some good information. We are shooting for a Spain visa for next year so maybe our paths will cross.
I found your channel as I was researching Portugal as a place to live in retirement and enjoying what you are doing and the very practical approach you have. I was curious a bit about the families still in the US, Brian mentioned adult kids in 3 states and Carrie mentioned kids and parents in one place. Could you tell us a bit more about what sounds like a blended family and how long the two of you have been together, because, as Carrie mentions, you better really like each other. If this is too personal of a question, please feel free to ignore it. thanks.
Hello and thank you for asking the question. We have been together for a little over 4 years. Our kids were all adults by the time we met with the exception of the youngest, who was 17 at the time. Being spread out across the US we haven't had many opportunities to be together at the same time. We have had dinner parties for our parents and two of our kids who are both living within driving distance. They are all very supportive and excited for what we are doing. Thank you again!! Cheers!!🍻
Ireland is so beautiful I suggest you go there also we went in Rhodes and love it as well the most beautiful and my favourite is Malta 🇲🇹 we go there every year for Christmas
Would you make a video about your budgeting? You mentioned going from 5 years to 3 to now. I'd love to learn what you budgeted for and how did it change over time. What were the biggest saving points.
Living on a budget the way we do aloud us to travel with less savings. Our cost of living videos we put out each month will explain exactly what we spend our money on and what we don't. Our biggest saving points are probably eating out. Thank you for the question! Cheers!!!🍻
Great video guys.we are all set to retire early at the end of this year .we delayed things for 2 years due to Covid….but now its happening. We live in NZ and fly to Bali in feb 23 for a month then 2 months in Thailand up to Vietnam for a month then Malaysia and then back to Bali where we are going to fly our grown up kids from NZ and UK for a month long catch up.probably when they have gone back home we may stay in Bali a little longer and do some more exploring….from there….well who knows but can’t wait for the adventure to begin.
That’s such a brave decision to leave everything behind and go far away. I hope you felt liberated after getting rid of those possessions. You are living in my dream. I’m single and I want to travel around the world and work remotely while I see the rest of the world. I’d prefer to stay at least 6 months in one country. What I’ll miss the most is the comfort of Sri Lankan food. The 10 days I was in different parts of Italy was like eternity. I was so bored with their food. But when I found an Asian restaurant in Naples I felt like I’m in heaven 🤪
Freeing yourself from all your belongings is very liberating!! Adjusting to different foods, customs and cultures is what we like about travel. We are very much looking forward to our trip to SE Asia starting in January for the food alone!! Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!!🍻
I retired to Thailand and put my house up for rent in Portland Or. it’s a hot rental market so having $1000 a month extra cash flow and equity I think it’s a much better option than selling. This assumes you’re in an area where there is rental demand and professional property management.
You are probably right about the housing Steven. We had sold our homes about a year before the decision was made to travel. We are from Bellingham WA. where the market is the same as Portland. It would have been nice however, we do enjoy being debt free. Thanks again for all the comments and advice. Cheers!!🍻
Simply amazing. Sounds like you guys took a big decision to live for your dreams. I think we can all imagine it’s a tough call to just sell off all of your posessions in order to travel the world.
Thank you, it was a tough call but we are really excited about sharing our adventures with everyone. We feel energized and motivated by all the comments. Thank you again for the support. Live your dream, cheers!!!🍻
My dream is to have everything I own fit in one suitcase. So fun to see people that are doing this. My husband and I are hoping to make the leap in a year. We will keep our house for rental income and a place to live in our final years if needed.
That is a good dream to have Karen! It is so incredibly freeing once you do! We did a packing video a couple months ago and absolutely love we made the decision to go carry-on only. 90% of our belongings are in those suitcases. Live your dream! Cheers 🍻
You guys are fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. The information you shared has helped me immensely in my plans to retire to Portugal.
Have been watching loads of your videos recently and am constantly making notes of the tips and ideas you have so thank you so much. It'll be a huge help when we finally get to do it!
brave moved but doable, you should consider southeast asia , Philippines 1 no language barrier, 2 very affordable and best of all the majestic beaches around all the provincial regions.....
Thank you! We just spent 6 months in SE Asia and loved it. We look forward to returning and enjoying more. Great place for amazing food, beautiful scenery and to save some money.
Is it possible to ballpark the amount of money or cost per year to live and travel the world like you guys do ? I know you maybe able to do it less or more but a medium ballpark would give a starting idea.
Thank you for the openness and honesty - not necessarily easy to do in a public forum. Your videos are helpful, thoughtful and REAL. Yes, everyone's situation is quite different and watching these types of videos are a fantastic learning tool. We are early 60's retired and heading to Alicante and Valencia area early February for 3 months and despite both having lived in several countries in Europe earlier in life for many years (not with each other! :-), we are still learning all the time, certainly also from your experiences. Best of luck as you proceed, we are already looking forward to your "luggage" video!
Thank you, Ernest. We are trying to focus on giving information people can use as well as some kind of entertainment. Getting comments like this is a real confidence boost as we really are just learning as we go. Thank you so much. You will love Valencia and Alicante, safe travels, and thank you again. Cheers!!! 🍻
This popped up in my suggested videos after watching your current video and have to say, I still enjoy this honest, one on one style you guys have. A year later and you are still doing it. I just retired and was seriously considering Portugal as my landing zone and still am, but you folks have got me considering this 1-2 month stay and bounce somewhere elsewhere routine. At least for the first few years. Please keep up the videos, as a single retired guy, I’m going to try and stay within a 3k a month budget at least while traveling. I’m not afraid to roll with the punches and take life as it comes, very similar to a couple delightful travelers that I follow on yt.😊 I’m pretty sure that budget is doable in many places, what do you think?
Hi, Larry. We had the privilege to meet and have drinks with Delightful Travelers back in January. They are a fun couple with a lot of experience. We really enjoy them as well. Our plan to move around the way we are is working for us and we don't plan to stop anytime soon. Your budget of $3k a month for a single is absolutely doable! We did a yearly budget video back in late Dec. We spent less than that for a couple. Thank you for watching our channel and commenting, Larry. Cheers!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie I had meant you two delightful travelers and did not realize there was a channel by that name. lol Thanks for the info. I actually plan on trying for $2k a month but realize stuff happens and have those extra funds if needed. My only concern is that if I do the bounce routine when I am ready to apply for something like the D7 visa, I won’t have a base in the US to apply from. Still thinking that one thru.
Congratulations, you are very brave! Me and my wife are 42 right now. We plan to move from Poland to Spain. They biggest question for us was when it is the right time? Once our daughter start to study and flees our home? Or once we retire? But then who at home will help our ordering parents? This was a main issue for us. We decided to try to make it in small steps. To travel to Spain more and more often and stay there for longer periods. It is for sure more costly solution, but we are too scared to do it as you did in one move. By the way your videos are great and are touching the subject we have never found in any other TH-cam channels.
Hi! Thank you so much. Seems like you have a great plan moving forward. As far as our older parents are concerned we each have siblings. We also know that we are home every 6 months and can get home sooner if needed. That being said, it is a concern for us as well. We were planning on being in Poland in August but now with the war we aren't sure. Hopefully we get there soon. Thanks again and safe travels. Cheers 🍻
@@BrianandCarrie Hello! You should not worry about the war so much. First It is in Ukraine. Poland is a nato member so if Russia would attack it triggers already a iii world war. So the Nuke can land either in Warsaw, New York or London. Because of such common thinking there will be less foreign tourists in Poland in summer. You can enjoy lower costs on booking or airbnb and less crowded tourist hotspots. 😁
Yes, we completely understand all that and will probably head that direction later this year. With other options in the world to travel better to be safe then sorry. Cheers 🍻
Can you share a little more about the stresses of not being engaged in your grandchildren's lives? We love to travel but also love to spend time with our grandchildren and be at their events on a regular basis.
Hi Jeannine and Marc, Great question! It's not easy and such a personal decision that I think each person will struggle with on their own level. For me, there was a lot of thought that went into being away from not only grandkids but also kids, family and friends. The conclusion and decision I came to was - when is it really the right time? If I stay to enjoy the grandkids when they are little, then my parents continue to get older and then issues could arise there making leaving not possible. There always seems to be something that makes it not the best time. For us, we just had to decide to say, now is the time and we will make it work. We are home for just about a month at a time twice a year and you try to fit in as much quality time during that as possible. In between that you rely very much on social media and video chats or phone calls with loved ones at home. Hope that helps :) Cheers!!
I really like this channel, great editing, down to earth presentation, superb visiuals and nice budget tracking. Love it. Love it. But,...and there is always a big but. They state that the decision to start world travel went from a relatively modest 8 year wait to maybe 5 years....and then spur of the moment it seems. I imagine that they originally were waiting the 8 years either to vest in a company retirement plan OR achieve a target amount in a 401K plan. Or,... perhaps they were holding off in order to fast track a mortgage with the propect of a future sale that would finance the world travel. It just seems to me that financial risks were evaluated and undertaken in order to accomodate the early start of world travel.... bravo that you pulled if off. Just hope ya'll do not run out of $$$$. Best of luck.
Hi, Daniel! You are 100% correct in your analysis of our situation. The original 8-year plan would have put us at 59.5. That would have been a smart decision financially, however, we would be running the same rat race that we had been for the last 30 years. Being debt free we decided worst case scenario we could travel for at least 2 years before returning home and going back to work. The plan from the begging was to try our hand at TH-cam and see if we could possibly finance our journey. We are extremely grateful to those of you that have watched and subscribed to our channel, it has become a source of income. We work very hard at developing our skills so our channel can continue on an upward trajectory. Thank you so much for the kind words, and for taking the time to watch and comment. Cheers!!🍻
We understand that, fortunately, we are debt free. We considered it before making the decision and keeping an eye on it. It is the reason that we are traveling to less expensive countries. We are currently in Thailand and heading to Malaysia next. Thank you for watching and commenting!! Cheers!!🍻
New to your show we really enjoy it,it's the first one we actually subscribed to. we are heading to Lagos for 6 months Oct to March hopefully travel to other spots in Europe as well. Not a big fan of the music but understand that is a hard one.
Hi Fred and Karen. Thank you for watching and subscribing! We really do appriciat it. As far as the music goes, we had it too load and learned our lesson! 😀We no longer use music on that kind of video. Thank you for the feedback, we are always trying to improve!! Cheers!!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie we are from White Rock,BC and going to Lagos Oct.1st for 6 months (if our Visa gets approved ) Is there a good department store in Lagos in case we need anything for our apartment?
Hey guys. Sorry, we missed this. Replies to comments we don't get notified, not sure why. We know that there are department stores near Lagos but are not sure exactly where. Hope you get that visa!! Safe travels.
would love to hear more about health insurance. Why cigna? This is such a headache to research!
Cheers 🍻
@@BrianandCarrie love that you replay to your viewers, but when you get 4 million subscribers that is going to be a big chore.
Ha! That would be a nice problem to have!!!
if you are in South/Central America and SE Asia, most just pay as you go, no insurance, I know many people that do that, health care insurance is a huge pain in the ass if you make a claim, and it is expensive, many "experts" say just pay as you go (except the USA of course)
Wow, that is awesome! Enjoy your travels through Vietnam and wherever else you venture :) Cheers 🍻
@@BrianandCarrie thanks. I have weekly trips planned from faro to Seville to malaga then to madrid. Happy Travels.
Great video and information. My wife and I are 3 years away from accomplishing our early retirement, will be 53 then. We
Have considered Portugal and Spain but are also opened to keep exploring options. Best of luck and we’ll keep following you guys!
Thanks you two! We had initially considered retiring to the Algarve in Portugal but decided that we wanted to explore other areas first. Now we travel! 😃 Good luck and thank you so much for following us!

Hi from our home in a tiny Colorado mountain village at 9,000 ft - ❤our lifestyle and canine companions and vacation travels - enjoy listening to you ❤ happy travels 🧳🌎🧭
Hello, Julie!! 😁❤️
Thank you for watching, Shawn. We will be doing a new Q & A video in the coming months so stay tuned! 😁
I love your channel. You are both so 'real'
We subscribed about 6 months ago.
Cheers!!🍻
I love your videos and all information. My hubby and I are planing an early retirement too. In the mean time we travel all what we can.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting!! Early retirement is amazing, we have no regrets! Safe travels!!❤
Just randomly came across your video and it is so informative and helpful. I love the idea of retiring early to travel and experience the world, and ESPECIALLY to get away from the high cost of living in San Diego to a much more affordable city where I can truly be free.
There are so many places that offer a wonderful quality of life for a fraction of the price. Thanks so much for watching 😊. Cheers!!
We have no regrets on the decision we made almost 2 years ago now!
hugs, magic. retired myself 40 years or so back
Thank you 😊
Brian, your look at the 6:33 mark really did seem to be one of surprise.
Haha! I had to look it up! I think she likes me. 🤣🤣
Cheers 🍻
What I like most about your videos is your honesty about the pros and cons of traveling full time. So many videos only focus on how wonderful it is but don't mention problems to avoid or the reality of traveling all the time. Thank you, Happy Traveling!
We are so happy you enjoy these videos. We work hard to be sure we don't sugar coat things as not to mislead others. Thank you so much for watching 😊
Just found you guys and am watching your videos from the beginning. You are really informative and inspiring and I am loving watching your journey. You are totally rocking the travelling. Well done on really great videos 👍❤

Bello bello bello.
I'm 65 years old I'm retired, I travel sometimes in Asia with my wife,
we don't have children, and that you are doing is my dream. but I have bad English and a very low budget,
So it's difficult for us to travel longer than 30/40 days.
Sorrowfully now that I'm over 65, no Italian insurance covers me for long periods
Thank for your videos
Ciao from Italy
Thank you for watching and commenting, we very much appreciate the support.
Thanks for all you have done so far.
Just seeing what is possible is empowering.
This video is awesome as my husband and I are leaving our comfortable abode May 1st with no return trip planned. We also plan to stay in one spot for a month a a time.
That is so exciting!!! We have no regrets at all about our decision! Safe travels!
Cheers!!!🍻
I was so pleased you touched on the topic of being away from Children and grandchildren. We have traveled OS for 3mths at a time before however taking the plunge to go for a year or two is a bit bigger leap. Worth it though :-)
We do come home twice a year and get tones of quality time in with the family. Thank you so
much for watching!! ❤
Good on you both! I think your video was great! Honest, humble and inspiring!
Hi! So sorry for the late reply, we were off the grid for the last week on a family cruise ☺. Thank you so much, we are happy to hear you enjoyed it ♥
My husband and I lived abroad for over 3 years before children. Now our last one is a senior. We have some years left to work but are planning to travel full time.
That time will be here before you know it, exciting times coming your way!! Thank you for watching!
Cheers!!🍻
Love your honesty about what you are saying and how you have started off. Best of luck with everything
So inspiring, thank you for the great video!

I would love to live in a few country for a year or two, but I would like to be able to some sort of work. My field is early childhood education
Very brave and empowering- Congratulations! Would love to hear more about your story of how you met and how long you’ve been together?
Hi, Christina. We've been together for five years and we met in the beer garden at a local event in our hometown. Thank you for asking! ❤
I’m in the same exact boat, just a year or so behind you.
We are so happy that we made this decision! We are loving our travel and have no regrets! Good luck to you and thank you for watching!

What a life. You guys are an inspiration. Keep making these videos and I will keep watching. Take care
Thank you, Phong! We are having a great time and learning a lot as we go. Thank you for watching our channel.

I love watching you guys, such an inspiration. It would be great to do another one of these vids now it’s another year on ☺
Yes, we have been thinking we need to do another one of these, it's been awhile. Cheers!!
Thanks for putting your journey out there so others can learn from you! I am inspired to follow in your footsteps! Happy life to you!
Thank you, Lynn. We appreciate the support. ❤
Fantastic video. Thank you for sharing all of your thoughts before heading out to travel and questions and concerns as you travel now.

Now living in Italy for almost three weeks, looking at the Airbnb prices going slightly higher by the week and thinking like I will soon have to leave the country for a cheaper location…
We have started to see Airbnb prices increase over time as well. Fortunately there are options of less expensive places to live . Thank you so much for watching 😊
@@BrianandCarrie Thanks Brian and Carrie. I am looking forward to hearing about these cheaper options in a future vlog post ;)
Have you looked into a repositioning cruise. In April & May they travel from Florida to Europe, then return back to Florida in October. Most are about two weeks long.

I love all the questions/your answers that you share here are great. I have been asking the same at 65. Thank you
Thank you for watching, Steph.
Cheers 🍻
Love Alicante !!
You guys are doing a fantastic job. I had looked at some of your videos and this one answered the question I had thought of.
Thank you! We have done a more recent Q and A video that may answer a few more!
Cheers!!!🍻
Hi Kids, Love your channel. My wife and I are thinking about retiring to Europe soon and appreciate all your insights. One things I've noticed is that Airbnb's are significantly cheaper in the off season (big surprise, yes?) so part of my plan is to spend winters along the Mediterranean (southern Spain, Portugal, Italy, Grease...). Relatively warm weather (I'm from So. Cal.) and minimum crowds. And spend Summers in northern Europe (Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania) comfortable weather, not too many tourists, not too expensive.
Hi, Ron. Yes, Airbnb is much less expensive in the off-season. Your plan is a good one!!! Thank you for watching!
Cheers!!!🍻
Thank you, Jeff. We plan on keeping the channel going as long as we can!! Thank you for watching and safe travels!

Excellent! One of my parents favorite trips was on the Rhine on a cruise, pre-covid.
Very nice!! We would love someday to take a river cruise like that.

Cheers!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie Thanks for sharing, sounds like it works great, keep on having the times of your lives.

That sounds like a great start! All those places are on our list. We will be in Southeast Asia to start 2023. Can't wait!!! Safe travels!
Cheers!!!🍻
Great Stuff! I'm a FIRE guy living in the Virgin Islands but looking to start doing some more traveling. I'll be following along. New Sub.
Thank you for the sub and following us. We will do our best to give you some travel ideas!!

It sounds nosey , Brian and Carrie but I’m so curious to know more about you !
Hi Mary! Thank you. We will have videos out weekly, hopefully, they will give you more insight into who we are. Thanks again for watching.

Cheers!!🍻
Great video
Thank you!!
well done. loved seeing Brian in April
Thank you, Ron! it was nice to see you as well, always a good time!!
Live your dream, cheers!!!🍻
thanks… needed to see this…
Hi Lisa! We're happy you found it helpful, thanks for watching and the support!
Cheers 🍻
AMAZING tips and video! Thank you!!
Thank you for watching our channel, Laura.
Cheers!!🍻
Great video. Very helpful in setting parameters for making the big leap.
You guys are fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. The information you shared has helped me immensely in my plans to retire to Portugal.
Thank you, Alley for the kind words. We appreciate the support! ❤
Have been watching loads of your videos recently and am constantly making notes of the tips and ideas you have so thank you so much. It'll be a huge help when we finally get to do it!
Thanks again you two. We hope that you have the opportunity to start your travels soon!!
Cheers!!🍻
brave moved but doable, you should consider southeast asia , Philippines 1 no language barrier, 2 very affordable and best of all the majestic beaches around all the provincial regions.....
Hi! Check out our cost of living playlist. We have two videos where breakdown our full year of costs. Cheers!!
You are a great match. I appreciate you taking me around the world
Thank you for watching our videos. We really appreciate the support!!!
Cheers!!!🍻
Loving your videos very informative
Cheers 🍻
You two are great. Thanks for your videos
Thank you for watching!!
Cheers!!🍻
Hope that helps :)
Cheers!!
Awesome you two, great info thank you! My wife and I are 18 months out from pulling the plug, thanks for the inspiration
Thank you!! 18 months will fly by!! Thank you for watching and the support!
Cheers!!🍻
Definitely right, folks. It’s clear you’re vids keep getting better. Bravo!
Thank you!! We really hope so!!😆
Cheers!!!🍻
Great video,,,,, thank you
Thank you for watching!!
Cheers!!!🍻
Cheers!!🍻
Thank you
Wish I could do what you guys are doing but with the way the economy is going, I’m not sure I can pull it off.
We understand that, fortunately, we are debt free. We considered it before making the decision and keeping an eye on it. It is the reason that we are traveling to less expensive countries. We are currently in Thailand and heading to Malaysia next. Thank you for watching and commenting!!
Cheers!!🍻
So inspired by you dad!!! Love you guys!!!
Love and miss you Kodie!!! ❤
