Lately, I've been contemplating retirement, uncertain whether my 401(k) and IRA will ensure a secure future. I've also invested $800K in the stock market, experiencing fluctuations without substantial gains.
Using a 401(k) or IRA is a valuable strategy for retirement planning, providing potential savings growth and tax advantages. While the stock market is promising, expert guidance is essential for effective portfOlio management
Opting for an invest-ment advisr is currently the optimal approach for navigating the stock market, particularly for those nearing retirement. I've been consulting with a coach for a while, and my portfOlio has surged by 45% since Q2.

I’m 55 and have been retired for 6 years. I have a 130K annuity, plus a 401k depleted to 150K of money that I’m not sure what I can do with at this point.
Not a great April but if you step back and actually look you will see the S&P 500 was up for the first Quarter. In the last 30 days, my IRA saw a gain of $70k. You might consider financial advisory if you're experiencing significant drop.
Right, a lot of folks downplay the role of advisors until being burnt by their emotions, no offense. During the covid-outbreak, I needed a good boost to stay afloat, hence researched for advisors and thankfully came across one with grit. As of today, my cash reserve has yielded from $350k to nearly $1m.

We sold our house for $550,000 after 10 years having paid $240,000 took the equity and moved to a cheaper town, paid $190,000 for a duplex, rented the basement and bought a rental house next door. We now live off the rental income and retired. The new houses have doubled in price after 8 years. We can easily live on less now we don't have to dress to work or commute, buy lunches etc no car payments, make food from scratch. The tenants are paying for the houses plus our living expenses, with no mortgage payments or debt we are richer than when we worked !!
And now your tenants will never be able to own a home in this market. But you can retire while they toil away for you! And somehow you live with yourselves.
@@modernanimist2421 Orrrr!......they [the tenants] can begin to change whatever is necessary in their situations, and build for themselves a better outcome. THAT is the point this couple is making here!!!

Wonderful video. I lost my house to bankruptcy in 08 and moved into a little apartment and I was so happy in that apartment and then nine months later the apartment owner told me that they were selling the building. So I cobbled together the little bit of money I had to buy a tiny house barge. Not long after that it started to take on water seriously enough to haul it out. I fixed it up paycheck to paycheck while staying with some friends and ended up selling it. By the way, it was featured in Macklemore‘s video next year. Anyhow, I pulled myself out of the Mire, and lived very slim and continued to save and now I have a house in Mexico. Glad to know you.
Allie and Rob, you are a breath of fresh air amidst a lot of doom and gloom these days. Your amazing transparency, your willingness to share and educate have empowered so many of your viewers to step outside the status quo. Thank you.
Our life basics right now for a family of 4 are just over $7,000 a month. Our oldest may move out in a year or two, and our youngest, due to health issues, may always live with us. We want to take him around the world with us, and your content is making my husband actually believe for the first time that it is possible! You are inspiring our family, thank you.
1. Pick the right partner in align with your goals. 2. Dont have any children. Wont make it impossible but will significantly delay for about 20 years. 3. Live below your means and track every purchase on a zero dollar budget. 4. Have 3-6 months of emergency fund. 5. Stay out of all conumer debt. No credit cards, (i dont play the chasing points game) no car payments, no loans. 6. Buy a house that you need not want. A house that is below your budget. Remodel over time instead of buying move in ready above your budget. Always buy a home below your means. 8. Pay off that house early before retirement. We paid ours off in 10 years instead of 30. 9. Invest heavily (close to maxing out) into at least one 401k/roth ira for a minimum 10-15 years while working. 10. Have multiple streams of income when you do retire.
I had kids so it slowed things down, but I've accomplished everything else on my list by age 40. I'm retired now living off YT earnings, military pension, and part time work online on my own terms. Wife works to keep healthcare for the kids. I quit my job of 16 years last year to be home with my teenage kids as I worked graveyard for most of their life and I have no regrets. Wife will quit in about 5 more years when the kids move out. Other than I can not tap into my 401k for another 19 years lol but by then it will be massive from compound interest and cannot collect social security for another 22 years lol. They will both be extra icing on the cake at that point. But life is good. No debt. Paid off house. Money in the bank. Taking multiple small vacations every year. Enough in 401k to keep the lights on in my senior years. Time with family all by age 40. Wife and I will travel more and have our house be our home base when the kids move out. My Only regret is wasting my entire 20s on stupid shit and listening to my broke friends and broke family and not being serious about finances.
Everything looks great but not number 2: one they said they have 2 kids and secondly family is far more important than more money. But its a good idea to learn to add AND to your vocabulary. You can have money and children. If I didn't have kids, I wouldn't have felt so happy and I wouldn't have been as motivated to be selfI-employed and make way more money than otherwise (and yes that's even after the "cost of my children"). Having children has increased my income and lifestyle significantly. Because of them I live a dream life in Florida and the Carribean at just 40- and I home educate my kids. Also, my husband passed away without life insurance (big mistake but he was young and his passing was very sudden)- but yet because of my kids, I've gotten myself to this dream lifestyle, homeschool and work part-time hours. Without them- I'd be like everyone else running in a hamster wheel. I thank God for my children!!!!
I always assumed you two had inherited money. Great story. Not everybody can be successful at you tube. You are both articulate and good communicators.
Your guy's history is similar to ours; we started our online business 28 years ago. I was an accountant at a law firm and loved this job, but I quit my job at 32 years old and started a shipping and packaging business. I sold this business after five years, and then we started the Online business. We make and sell products online and love being our own boss. But now, I am ready to make another change. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas with us, I want to hear more about how to make passive income. I plan to take this course. Love you!
I really enjoyed the way you shared your journey with us. It felt so authentic like friends sitting around sharing. It was encouraging and uplifting. Thank you.
glad I found your chanel. looking to retire in Asia in 5 yrs, when I'm 55. I was born in Philippines. But I only want to live there 6 months out of the year.
You both are so inspiring. I retired a few years ago at age 48 but haven’t traveled much. My initial plan did not fall through and I didn’t have a Plan B. Thank you for being so transparent.
Wow, thanks for sharing. I am a kindred nomad, retired early, fulltime camper-van explorer thru-out USA & Canada for 5yrs sharing inspiration on my TH-cam channel! Bravo folks!
Congrats guys from another digital nomad! Life can change quickly. I've been living day to day financially in a fortunate position where I can treat myself without thinking.
Thx you so much for this video. I’m 65 and don’t know how I’m going to retire in the U.S. on $26k yr. You’ve given me hope. I’m just waiting for my granddaughter to graduate high school in May 2024. Sending peace and love❤
I found you a year ago when researching train travel and it's been a blessing and joy to learn and travel with you. I actually just started learning travel agent to go passive and finding online work. Great info for disabled vet.
Thank you for sharing. I thought you needed a lot of money to travel the world. The game changer is when you mentioned you can do online jobs while you're traveling, so you won't feel bored and you're doing something worthwhile. I will definitely look into this.
Ok I just watched the whole video. I think it’s GREAT that you guys made all that money on TH-cam. With all the talk of TH-camrs quitting…is your experience just opposite to all that in that the algorithm is still working for you etc? Also…it’s nice of you to think everyone can make money on TH-cam like yall do. But honestly for most people having a plan that requires making money on TH-cam is not a good idea. I think what happened with you guys is well deserved and rare. Happy travels! I’ll continue to live vicariously :)
Yes, its not exactly a Simple Path to Wealth or really repeatable without significant content creation skills and some luck. And TH-cam is now flooded with similar content, so the competition is much tougher now. (TikTok seems to be the new TH-cam these days.) But if you can keep your expenses down to $3-4K per month for a family of four, it seems to be a viable option. That is really the key here, not this particular source of income.
Fellow former ATL resident. I left two years ago and now in Oklahoma City. The career guidance I wish I had gotten a couple of years ago. Thanks for the info and I love that it looks fun. I really, really appreciate it.
I am subscribing just based off how real this video was. Thank you for sharing your journey. Very inspiring, I really want to experience living outside of the US at some point too.
I love these videos. My goal is retire from my job in 2 years but I can't imagine not making money. You guys break it down and give me and my husband a lot to think about. THANK YOU
I commend you for taking the leap to retire early. We were fortunate enough to retire in our early 50’s and be able to live in the US and travel, with that said living overseas for periods of 30 days is our next move. We are lucky to have properties in HI & CA to fall back on. Even with all that and a nice pension, we still feel we are short on money. I know, I know first world problems but we like your experimenting and living different places.
The accidental retired couple…..what a story. I’m one of those corporate retired at age 39 due to injuries. Cried in the beginning, but thinking back, it’s been good. Now you got me thinking about doing something on TH-cam…..keep up your great lifestyle, keep up the fun.🙋♀️👏🇺🇸
I am 47, and I have been making money online for a while, but I am definitely praying that I will get monetized on TH-cam soon. I have the subscribers, but I just need more watch hours. I would love to be able to retire in my 50's. I love what I do as a teacher, but it literally drains all of my energy. I am also from Atlanta, and it has become super expensive even though I live deep in the suburbs.
I'm so glad I found your channel and this post. Thanks for the honesty. I've been at the same rat race job for 20 years and in the industry longer than that. I'm a professional chef. My husband is a double retiree and officially retired. I've been wanting to do a youtube channel but can't settle on a niche. Being half Thai, I'd love to see my mother's homeland but she has not been back in 50 years. I love watching your videos. Very informative.
Thanks for your honesty and transparency. It's wonderful that you share your story and experiences to inspire others to live the lives they dream of. We are already retired, but we spent just shy of 4 years living on the road, and have now settled in our dream city in Italy. We lived in Atlanta and homeschooled as well. We were on the Venezia transatlantic with you. I wish we had taken time to seek you out and chat. Wishing you continued success with your ventures!
Congratulations to both of you! What a great story! So great to hear how you lived beneath your means, recognized what needed to change for your future, and took the "risk" to live the life you desired! Thanks for your transparency and congratulations again on your success! Keep up the good "work" in your retirement! 😀💪🎉
I enjoy all your videos, but this one is extra inspiring. Thank you for being so transparent with everything, it makes me realise that with some planning this lifestyle is doable for me.
Thank you for this video. I'm watching this at a crossroads in my life. My kids are grown, I'm single and my house is up for sale. I'm basically trying to figure out what to do next. I work a great job here in Canada, it pays well but not good enough for the cost of living. Like you mentioned, I feel like I'm in a wheel going nowhere. I need a change. Thank you for sharing your story.
As a 25 year old this makes me hopeful to be learning early, but also sad because it just seems like a huge uphill journey to even get to a point where I could afford to buy a house these days. Really focusing on trying to make online income asap!
I am a single lady in late 40s and I planning to make the switch in the next 4 years. I have done grinding for 24 yrs now. I think if I have had a who is as supportive would have done it next year. But since single I have to plan carefully. Thanks for the sharing and you 2 guys who are so inspiring.
Wow I didn't realize this wasn't your travel channel when I clicked on this video. We always watch your travels when we stream on the tv. We were just discussing how we feel like we're leaving money on the table. We appreciate your transparency so much! This video is right on time!! THANK YOU!! "Take the leap of faith" 🙌🏽 You've definitely conveyed a message of hope.
Ok...you all are my new favorite channel! I love the transparency, the tips, and allllll of the useful information. Y'all got me ready to retire NOW - lol
I certainly worked longer than I needed to - but still retired at 58 into a life that is quite grand. I don’t worry about my budget too much, but I do watch our spending - and I try to keep it 5k per month or less. That includes about 3k in social security - so it’s pretty doable even with 2 houses.
I can't top what many other folks below have said so I'll just agree with them all. The transparency, the information sharing, the provision of HOPE, it's just some of what's contained in your videos. I look forward to more content and taking my own step when my kiddo leaves the nest in a couple years.
I stumbled across you guys and instantly subscribed to your channel. You folks are just down right grounded and honest. So refreshing! I am so happy for you both wish you all the very best. I really enjoy your videos so please keep them coming.
This year I'm 39, starting my financial journey at 32 living with a disability and financial journey is to be off disability and I'm shocked at the progress once I started and kept it going, even with a very low income.
Hey guys, I really enjoy your channel. I’m 55 years old, and retired in the Philippines August of last year. I am in the process of getting married, building a house and thinking about starting a channel. Thank you for your transparency. Chris.
This is my first time finding one of your videos and I’m so glad that I found it. Thank you for sharing your story! Informative, relatable and realistic.
Thank you so much! My husband and I have cashed in three retirement plans of his and one of mine to rescue our youngest daughter, who we have supported for the last five years along with her daughter. We were happy to do it! But now at 61 he would really like to not have to work so hard! we are in the next two months transitioning, and this video could not have come at a better time for us! I am an author, but have invested so much of my time taking care of my family. My website has set unattended for a few years, and I have a backlog of projects I really want to do. I had actually been thinking about setting up a TH-cam channel because I have so many things I would love to share with people! It might be two or three years, but I’d like to say now, see you out there! XO
I stumbled on your channel tonight and binge watched several of your videos. Thanks for sharing how you started and where you are right now. Like you said it, you sharing your experience with TH-cam gave me hope to get started with TH-cam, which I have been planning to do for quite some time now. No one has ever been open about how much they can make with TH-cam channel. Thanks a lot for sharing and may the Lord, the Creator continue to bless you both!
For me my 4 largest expenses are housing, transportation, food and entertainment . With housing it's a money pit. The cost includes satisfying the debt if you have that , taxes, utilities , internet and items like a new roof, furnace, kitchen or bath upgrades, ect. A car could include the loan payment, insurance, fuel and repairs. Food could easily cost $250.00/ month per person. Then the entertainment and miscellaneous items could vary a lot. So all of that could easily amount to $4,000.00 to $6,000.00/ month depending on where you live, what type and how many cars you own and your general lifestyle in regards to food and leisure . Your budget of $4,000.00/ month is easily be less than living in the states, especially if you live in or near a large city.
Amazing! YOU are giving courage to many of us who are stuck with the status quo in our lives but can't take that step out of fear of what if it doesn't work but you are showing by your true example. I have gone through initial assessment of validating points from hotels and it looks doable to me. I will take that step soon too. Many thanks!
We made our money in the tech world and got used to having some investments. Both of us had spent part of our careers in the finance world, so we did have a leg up on those that don't understand the money world. When we quit our jobs we thought we would go back to work in a couple years. That was over 20 years ago. We traveled, lived cheap and protected our investments with a vengeance. Now we find that we are used to living on much less than we could safely spend, but see no reason to change much.
Thank you for sharing your story. This is both interesting and inspiring. Watching your videos will be more meaningful now that I know a bit more about your backstory.
Worked 15 years at previous job and just had my 5 year anniversary at current job so yup, I know that 20 year grind! Plus the last 7 years have been bi-vocational as pastor and special needs instructor. Very cool hearing your story and the leap you made!
You two are so inspiring! I am a 68 year old widow, and looking to travel & possibly move abroad. My Social Security is enough to live on in the US, but would go so much further abroad! Please keep posting, I just found your channel…. Happy travels 😊
This was motivational, thank you both so much! I'm 46 and still grinding in the rat race, a scientist at a large global corporation. I almost can't take it any longer, with stress levels and unfairness becoming unbearable. I've been following FIRE for almost 10 years and being quite advanced, I feel it's time to leave corporate soon in order to preserve my health. Would love to build up an internet-based side income.
This is awesome. Thank you for sharing. My kids are in college and they enjoy coming ’home’ to decompress and veg out. We are still in their childhood home so there are tons of memories. If we gave up our home and possessions I think the kids would feel a loss in a sense. But I do work remotely now and could travel periodically while working and still keeping our home base. Your story has given me something to strive for in the immediate future. I’m excited!!!
Wow! Congratulations - watch you guys all the time. My wife and I are 2 years away from "retirement" but this was a much needed video to see. Thank you! ❤
Thank you immensely for your transparency. This episode has been exceptionally candid, providing comprehensive insight with detailed numbers, enabling me to strategize effectively. As my family prepares for my early retirement in my 40s after almost two decades in the workforce, I am eager to devote myself fully to my family. My husband and I are diligently piecing together the puzzle of our future plans.
What a great episode. Thank you for being so open & real. We get sooo much value from your videos & you are both such sweet people!! Blessings to you!! And….Happy Chinese New Year!! In Vietnam!

They have children.
Love you!
Thanks for sharing your story, it is great to hear what others have done.
I really enjoyed the way you shared your journey with us. It felt so authentic like friends sitting around sharing. It was encouraging and uplifting. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Good job. Surprised to see a channel with 8k subscribers earning $700/month. Gives hope.
Thanks!
So 7 months ago their channel had 8k subscribers and now they are up to almost 50k subscribers. Now that’s very nicely done 😃👍
I find value in your channel. You both are caring and have a heart for humanity that sets you apart. Jah Blessings always.
Thanks
glad I found your chanel. looking to retire in Asia in 5 yrs, when I'm 55. I was born in Philippines. But I only want to live there 6 months out of the year.
Best of luck!
You both are so inspiring. I retired a few years ago at age 48 but haven’t traveled much. My initial plan did not fall through and I didn’t have a Plan B. Thank you for being so transparent.
You’re inspiring! I am 38 and hope to be like you when I reach 48. 🎉
That is awesome!
Continued success and wonderful adventures going forward. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Thank you! Will do!
Thx you so much for this video. I’m 65 and don’t know how I’m going to retire in the U.S. on $26k yr. You’ve given me hope. I’m just waiting for my granddaughter to graduate high school in May 2024. Sending peace and love❤
Our pleasure, wishing you the best!
May GOD Bless you with opportunities to make passive income this year. Amen!
I found you a year ago when researching train travel and it's been a blessing and joy to learn and travel with you. I actually just started learning travel agent to go passive and finding online work. Great info for disabled vet.
Thanks for sharing your history, wisdom and guidance. Alternatives to the grind are always appreciated. There is hope!
No doubt!
Thank you for sharing. I thought you needed a lot of money to travel the world. The game changer is when you mentioned you can do online jobs while you're traveling, so you won't feel bored and you're doing something worthwhile. I will definitely look into this.
It's great!
Hope you are enjoying OKC!
Super encouraging! This is prompting a lot of conversations around our dinner table. Thank you for your helpful information.
I love you guys. The humility, honesty and genuine desire to help others comes through in all your videos.
We appreciate that, thanks
Congratulations to you both! You took a leap of faith and worked! DEDICATION prevailed! Thank you for sharing your story!
Thank you!! 😊
I am subscribing just based off how real this video was. Thank you for sharing your journey. Very inspiring, I really want to experience living outside of the US at some point too.
Very inspiring Video, Would Love to hear more from you, thanks
Thank you! Will do!
I love these videos. My goal is retire from my job in 2 years but I can't imagine not making money. You guys break it down and give me and my husband a lot to think about. THANK YOU
Thanks!
Have fun guys! Make money doing it too! Have a blessed day.
Thank you both so much! Congratulations on your success!
Really appreciate the word*life of the freedom *❤❤❤
Thank you so much for sharing this very private information! I appreciate how open you two have been and your story.
It's so kind of you to share this information. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
Thanks for sharing your story. It is very encouraging!
many blessing I live in atlanta GA and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!
Thailand is our favorite!
Awesome, thanks! Hopefully we can meet on another cruise one day!
Thank you for your honesty! It is very much appreciated!
My pleasure!
Congratulations to both of you! What a great story! So great to hear how you lived beneath your means, recognized what needed to change for your future, and took the "risk" to live the life you desired! Thanks for your transparency and congratulations again on your success! Keep up the good "work" in your retirement! 😀💪🎉
Thank you so much!
I really appreciate your honest and straightforward advice. Both of you are such an honest humanist, we need more sincere people like you both.
The fact that you shared such personal details is amazing… so helpful, so inspiring… and makes you so trustworthy. Thank-you!
I enjoy all your videos, but this one is extra inspiring. Thank you for being so transparent with everything, it makes me realise that with some planning this lifestyle is doable for me.
Wow, thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing your story! 😊
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this video. You guys are so sweet, I'm glad these videos support you well.
You are so kind
Thank you for this video. I'm watching this at a crossroads in my life. My kids are grown, I'm single and my house is up for sale. I'm basically trying to figure out what to do next. I work a great job here in Canada, it pays well but not good enough for the cost of living. Like you mentioned, I feel like I'm in a wheel going nowhere. I need a change. Thank you for sharing your story.
Thanks for sharing. Don’t feel shy to share the numbers…it’s motivating.
Thank you
As a 25 year old this makes me hopeful to be learning early, but also sad because it just seems like a huge uphill journey to even get to a point where I could afford to buy a house these days.
THANK YOU!!
"Take the leap of faith" 🙌🏽
You've definitely conveyed a message of hope.
Love your story. You're so amazing!
Ok...you all are my new favorite channel! I love the transparency, the tips, and allllll of the useful information. Y'all got me ready to retire NOW - lol
Awesome! Thank you!
I certainly worked longer than I needed to - but still retired at 58 into a life that is quite grand. I don’t worry about my budget too much, but I do watch our spending - and I try to keep it 5k per month or less. That includes about 3k in social security - so it’s pretty doable even with 2 houses.
That's awesome, thanks for sharing! You brought up one thing we didn't mention, SS, which we aren't taking yet, but one day!
I can't top what many other folks below have said so I'll just agree with them all. The transparency, the information sharing, the provision of HOPE, it's just some of what's contained in your videos. I look forward to more content and taking my own step when my kiddo leaves the nest in a couple years.
We really appreciate your comments, thank you!
I stumbled across you guys and instantly subscribed to your channel. You folks are just down right grounded and honest. So refreshing! I am so happy for you both wish you all the very best. I really enjoy your videos so please keep them coming.
We appreciate your kind words!
This year I'm 39, starting my financial journey at 32 living with a disability and financial journey is to be off disability and I'm shocked at the progress once I started and kept it going, even with a very low income.
Thanks for sharing! This provides helpful info & more importantly hope!
Thank you for your encouraging words . Hope you continue on your Great Journey with good health.
Thanks!
You kids are wise beyond your years. Thanks for the encouragement.
Thank you for giving up hope!
You are so welcome!
XO
Thanks! Hopefully we will run into you one day!
this has shifted my paradigm!!! Appreciate you two so much!!!!
Very interesting to listen to your story. Thanks much for sharing. Very happy to see you are where you are, and sky is the limit. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for being so open and transparent!! You have helped so many people! 😊
You are so welcome!
Loved this video!! Thanks for giving us HOPE!!! Congratulations on the TH-cam income!!!
Thanks so much!!
I really enjoyed listening to you guys. Thank you for being so candid in sharing your experiences. Keep sharing please.
Thank you! Will do!
Awesome!
That's awesome, what a great story!
Thank you for sharing your story. This is both interesting and inspiring. Watching your videos will be more meaningful now that I know a bit more about your backstory.
Awesome, that's great!
Beautiful couple! Thank you for giving me hope even at this stage of my life.
Thank you! All the best to you!
I truly enjoy watching you two! Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us !
We know the feeling, all the best to you!
@@GroundedLifeRetirementTravel Thank you!
Awesome, that's exciting, all the best to you.
Thank You for the transparency & honesty - it really helps & encourages your subscribers
You are so welcome!
Wow! Congratulations - watch you guys all the time. My wife and I are 2 years away from "retirement" but this was a much needed video to see. Thank you! ❤
Thank you. Honest and generous couple.
Glad it was helpful! All the best with your planning!
Congratulations, that's inspiring
Thank you!
What a great episode. Thank you for being so open & real. We get sooo much value from your videos & you are both such sweet people!! Blessings to you!!
And….Happy Chinese New Year!! In Vietnam!
Thank you! They've had some special activities in the hotel, it has been fun!
