  • Join us for some time in the Bobcat excavator seat in the cab if the Bobcat E42 mini excavator as I work to open up a new 'secret' old logging road that we found deed in the woods of our Southern Illinois homestead. This old logging road cut down a ridge and paralleled and old pig barn located deep in the woods. I am working on creating some new riding trails for the new 2019 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 as well as some potential new hunting opportunities on our land that I had previously not explored. This work is being done on our Southern Illinois homestead farm that we live on. Thanks for watching and don't forget to hit the like button and subscribe to follow all of our land management projects, tractor projects, excavator projects, food plotting, and more country living adventures. Kapper Outdoors, living the dream, one acre at a time.

    I bought a e43r. I had never ran anything that wasn't bailing hay when I was a kid.
    Alot of my projects you have videos of doing what I need to learn. Knowledge is power if you have the ability to share it in a way that people like myself can understand.
    For that sir I say thank you

    Love the Bob Cat Excavator video action, Kap. Man at 8:24 and 10:48 you got some good scoops of grouped trees moved out after they were pulled by their roots. Nice work. Dang it! I want AC tractor cab...NOW! It was 97 degrees today and will be in the 90's for another week. I know it gets hot but it's not even summer yet. This part of country is dang close to declaring a DROUGHT. We haven't had rain in a very long time. The green grass is turning brown. You definitely got a good handle on working that Mini-Ex. Full watch.

      @@kapperoutdoors Yeah, I know what you mean. The Massey I'm looking at has just a tad bigger footprint than my open-floor 1533. Looking at the 1760M. It's not much wider and just a tad longer. About to do some "Tractor Shed" modifications to be able to get the slightly taller cabbed tractor into the shed. I'll video the process. I haven't made any videos in quite some time.

    Water hole looks like an ehd nightmare

    • @kapperoutdoors
      @kapperoutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Long story but I don't agree with the 'current theory' about EHD. You see a couple of years ago I believe it was New York state, they had a MASSIVE outbreak of EHD.. The only problem was that they also had record rains throughout the year, which means the 'muddy midge' theory did not comport.. Matter of fact with record rains, there was very little mud, or low water levels, yet they had a massive EHD outbreak. I listened to the podcast and the DNR rep was pretty much dumbfounded.. I live life by reality and common sense. So if there was a massive ehd outbreak with conditions completely opposite of what their current 'theory' is, how do explain that? Just my opinion and life experience.. Something to think about, thanks.

    hey, love this POV footage. Pretty cool. So what size of trees can you take down with these? I just recently got a crazy expensive quote for some excavation on a rocky mountain property. I'm wondering how well these will handle solid rock? do you know if you can you get rock smashing tool heads for them?

    • @kapperoutdoors
      @kapperoutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I'm sure you could rent/buy a jack hammer for a mini with hi flow. Don't know if you would need one or not? Trees that grow in rock are sometimes easier to pull out as the roots are not always that robust. But I know what you mean, big excavation is big money!! Hard to find the right solution that is most affordable. Good luck!

    • @houndsmanone4563

      Thomas, I think Kap bought it some time back. You're right, those Mini-Ex are real nice. I looked at renting one in April for 30 days and it cost $2400-ish (delivered). I specifically wanted an enclosed cab w/ AC and a thumb. As the season progressed and got hotter, demand for them got greater and availability was less. Have a good one.

    How well does a mini excavator work on a slight incline? I have an acre of cleared flat land but wanting to clear about 2 more and the land slopes up a bit. How easy/hard is to flip one of these things?

    • @TF856
      @TF856 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If your tracks are facing up and down the hill they don't turn over that easily but you should still be careful. You should be okay upto 30°, even if your tracks are going across the slope. I have worked on a 45° slope, but every machine is different.
      It's best to test your tip angle in a safe situation. That is with the boom on the downhill side so it cannot flip over.

    How long does it take to clear an acre with that thing?

    • @kapperoutdoors
      @kapperoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man it all depends on the size of the trees you are pulling. Bigger trees take way more time. But I'd say if they were smaller trees you can clear an acre probably in a day or so. Maybe half day, never really timed it out. Thanks
