Our Story:
We are five years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney
Grove" in Northwest Florida into our dream homestead/mini farm to be filled
with animals and joy. We plan to have a variety of miniature critters on our
pastures, raise free-range chickens, grow fish in our pond, garden
organically, plant fruit and nut trees, and harvest wild game. Our goal is
to escape the stresses of corporate life and embrace all that country living
has to offer as we enter the next chapter of our lives. Follow along on our

Love it when you both say Excavator and when you use it... You have become really good operator!
@GoodWorksTractors sells a rake to put on the back of your tractor. It would collect all of the needles and branches. Nice work so far. Thanks for sharing.
We have a 5' Landscape Rake, but what we don't have is a lot of time! So much to do. Thanks for watching!!
I have an old KX71 for years with about 6000 hrs on it now and as much experience. Long pointed Rock teeth with a thumb on a 24" bucket is the best combo for maximizing the potential for this machine. Stock teeth suck.
Our digging is easy. We need a 24" flat tooth bucket for digging ditches and grading. Thanks for watching.
Can I be effective without a thumb on the mini?
For digging, yes. For picking up things, the thumb is so valuable. Here's our latest video on using the excavator: th-cam.com/video/vuwoCySnfuQ/w-d-xo.html
Just posted a video to my TH-cam channel of my 1 ton excavator paired up with a TMK150 tree sheer. Crazy how well it worked for clearing trees!
Im just down the road from y’all with a nearly identical situation, 20 acres planted in 6/7 y/o pines and overgrown scrub brush. I’m building my homestead there but I don’t have any equipment other than my truck and a chainsaw. Y’all wanna come over and give me a hand lol
The mini was a great investment for us! Thanks for watching and good luck with your property. It's a labor of love....but it's still labor!!
Just so you know….. the mini excavator applies less ground pressure to the soil than your tractor because the tracks spread out the weight over a much larger area than your tractor tires…. The mini ex would be considered an LGP low ground pressure machine while the tractor with tires is not. FYI.
Thanks for the tip!
I noticed that the props/stays you used against the gate posts are too short and too close to the ground. They will act like a lever and eventually lift the posts out of the ground, as the wire is strained. They should be 2/3rds the height of the post and at least 12 feet long to transfer the load into the ground away from the post.
That makes sense, but in our tight clay it hasn't been an issue....the fence is 5 years old.
for the amount of energy - time - money - damage to other roots - you could have hired - rented a stump grinder after you cut the stumps off at the ground level - I did both - I know -- i ended up busting a 24in new bucket completely to pieces - Just saying -
This works perfectly for us. Thanks for watching.
Man, that thing is tough! I sure can't dig stumps out like that with the BX... One day...
Jump in! The water's fine!
U can get a good backhoe for ur Kubota tractor if u wanted
Not a fan of backhoes, that's why we got a mini. Thanks for watching.
Pile and burn saves alot of work.
Agree but we can't be on-site long enough for fire control.
Yes bro, buy a dump trailer, it would be a great project/investmen
agree. we will get one.
Just came over to check out your channel. Big fan of Brocks channel (Rockhill Farm). Brock mentioned you so i figured i would give ya a sub..
Thanks for checking us out. Brock and I prove that friendship can overcome the color of your tractor!!
@PineyGroveHomestead yeah I have an orange tractor too, but of the Kioti variety.
Yes sir great job , I invested in a moritz 7x14 dump trailer . It has 2 7k axels and an 8 inch I beam frame . Pricey at 13k but damn you won’t regret it
Thanks for watching! If you like excavator content, we have a playlist of videos: th-cam.com/play/PLG5yS75HLzo0v6LnCFxPlQOxbi6tlXdB0.html
@@PineyGroveHomestead yes I do i subscribed I have a small John Deere 26g
@@dannyknapp515 Nice machine!
There were more stumps and roots than one would have guessed.
You got a lot accomplished. Once you get it out, or in a dumb trailer it will be so much clearer and cleaner.
Go home, Deb is waiting
She starts blowing up my phone around 4pm with "are you still there?" Time flies when you're having fun on an excavator!
@@PineyGroveHomestead That's love, calling you because she is waiting for you. How I wish my late husband could keep on doing that. Be blessed both of you.
Dump trailers are handy
We're just debating on the investment....they've run up in price over the last couple years. Thanks for watching.
