Flat added damage is first added to base damage, then multiplied by the attack's damage modifier. This makes the power of the added damage relative to the skill you're using. For example: a level 20 rapid shot has a 40% multiplier, which means it does 40% of your base damage per shot. A big, slow hit, like sunder at level 20, has a 531% modifier, meaning it does 5.31x your base damage. This somewhat evens out the value of flat added stats for all skills. @@StruthGaming You might just have to stack more % chance to shock. Shock chance is based on the amount of damage the hit deals, so smaller hits means lower chance. Since they're smaller, % shock chance, ailment chance, etc, should help them shock more reliably, which might help a lot with the cast on shock energy generation. The chance to shock is based on the enemy's "ailment threshold" which is based on their maximum life and any modifier to their ailment threshold. There's not really much more specific information on different enemy thresholds, but bigger is higher chance to shock, unfortunately.
@@StruthGaming I forgot to mention that you can get gobs of shock chance and chance to inflict ailments on emerald and sapphire jewels. They're both suffixes, so you can get offensive or defensive stats on the prefixes, like elemental damage, attack damage, lightning damage, penetration, etc Edit: you can also try the Conduction support gem to add shock chance or the lightning infusion gem to boost your lightning damage at the expense of fire and cold damage.
I would also try picking up the gloves that swap all fire damage to cold; then add herald of ice with shock supports WHILE swapping herald of thunder supports for ice supports.
I would add in a cost on shock/ignite flamewall setup if you can get the int for it. You could also put your voltaic mark in there to have less buttons to press
Nice build, thanks for sharing. Long time POE 1 player here since 2011. I just wanted to add a key point. If you have say 100-200 flat lightning added to your attacks from gear that damage is not just added to your skill directly. Each skill always has a co-efficient multiplier so that faster firing skills typically get less and slower skills get more. For example a Mace slam might take that 100-200 and it might get turned into 200-400 to the attack, where a really fast attack might get 40-80 or something. Just something to keep in mind.
enfolding dawn would a great choice as a chest since you dont really need the bonus from int but having 122+ spirit + 15% elemental resist gives you WAY more room to add auras and heralds even

I really want to mess around with a low level crossbow called Rampart Raptor, which has really high attack speed and a property of "100% chance to not consume a bolt if you've reloaded recently" It seems like it could be kinda silly, but probably not even close to the kind of damage you would need once you're done leveling. I'm trying to come up with a way to make it work, but it's probably a pipe dream. Maybe cast on crit somehow? Idk yet
Tried it. Its great to lvl up to 30-40ish levels. But it goes down hard in dps against other crossbows. also you want to spec for the 100% reload speed and then your reload is almost unnotisable. Im ATM lvling a deadeye cause i have the idea of a similar fast attack build like struths one but with another asendency.
Here's an idea for your current build that might make it crazier for mapping/aoe clear. Use The Three Dragons unique helmet. It will make your fire damage from your rapid fire apply shock. That will proc your herald of thunder, which in turn makes the lightning damage apply freeze, which can then proc a Herald of ice. Herald of thunder/Ice combo will aoe delete mobs while mapping. I essentially do the same thing using explosive shot, but it might be interesting to see how it works with Rapid shot.
I got my first quill rain in the game, immediate made a new ranger, tried to find a good skill to use with it, and have enjoyed every moment of it. Mana issues are a real problem, but super high attack speed is ALWAYS super satisfying in games like this.
I wonder if it'd be even better with three dragons. Fire damage would shock naturally, added lightning would freeze, leading to Ice+Thunder herald combo really well
The scattershot support gem actually makes it so that 1 click will fire off 3 shots instead of just 1. So 1 "bullet" will actually fire off 3 shots. I'm not sure how the math of the inherent less atk spd and all that works out but it adds up to more shots per reload. But seeing as how the fresh clip support works so well with rapid shot it's probably still a dmg loss in the end.
crossbows seem work different than bows for multiple projectiles. they still fire the extra projectiles but not at the same time as the initial bolt. Thats why it takes so much longer for the clip to empty. seems to be an all round bad thing to have atm.
Using the flask nodes of PF (since you only need 2 for the Build) you could improve defense with going quite heavy into flask heal and have 5000 recovery/s or the likes as defensive layer. currently lategame kinda forces you into converting into energy shield upping 3000 life to 6000 ES instead which you can heal into with the notable converting life heal to ES. --- that might be defense solved but probably at the cost of a couple of passive points. stacking attributes and using howa is an obvious choice as well. thanks for the showcase :)
Great video! I've been brainstorming scaling the gem lvls and following something similar to fearlessdumb0's crossbow HOWA build. At extremely high gem levels, you can get up to something like 130 bullets and like 35 max heat. Have you looked into Ricochet and other forms of chance to chain when colliding with walls? From what I've heard it can chain back to something it already hit, making your single target even stronger in certain situations while also helping clear in more enclosed map layouts.
I am not sure which one you would grab but you should look into an annulment for your amulet to get either more attack speed or maybe some tank. Really cool build

Dont hold off on trying new things, endgame/loot doesnt mean sh*t I took all my characters to 90 and finally found the right one But I'll still make more if I want to try new things. Decide what will be more fun in the long run. These characters will rotate to standart one day anyways

Interesting build. Have you tried running Three Dragons on it? It should allow fire damage to contribute to shock chance, Since Rapid Shot is mostly fire and even gives fire damage to grenades, it could be worth looking into. Tho I suck at theorycrafting so it would probably mess with most lightning nodes on the tree and ranger is too far from most fire nodes..

try cast on ignite for your voltaxic mark and it might feel a little better than cast on shock since your fire damage is decent enough to trigger a lot of ignites
10:08 - if you're clearing fast, mana shouldn't ever be a problem you'll always have mana flask charges in most cases maybe you could even invest in flask recharge if you somehow can't get enough mana leech/mana on kill/mana regen i think it'd be worth if it means having more damage then you'll only have to switch for bosses maybe

Out of curiosity, have you tested this with the gloves that converts fire damage to cold? With the fire rate the ailment build up may mean you could insta freeze enemies, possibly? I have been using them with explosive shot and with scatter shot it's an insta freeze on most enemies
I tried this with my TITAN, I could do both insta stun and freeze the enemy. Used a unique grlove to convert fire to ice then used Ice herald. It's fun with the explosions, freezes and stun everywhere.
Rapid shot fire based, the other is lightning. Also rapid shot needs time to fire up your Xbow to deal extra fire dmg what is actually also added to your grenades dmg and make them explode instantly at arrival. Shockburst round doesn't do much dmg on its own however, if you manage to shock an enemy the shockburst round starting to do massive dmg.

I main a gemling stat stacker. I bought a 1 div crossbow, swapped my 2nd weapon swap talent points, and only put 3 support gems in, I got my tooltip up to 501k dps just doing that haha. It's a neat idea but it's rather slow paced.
Late in the video he goes over why PF, it's to get Ascendancy nodes that limit how much you are reduced speed by skills, so he can keep moving at a good speed, b/c Rapid Fire slows you considerably.
Most skills can only hit each enemy once. Skills that "shotgun" are the exception. Also, with just +1 projectile, you're accuracy goes to shit. Your stream splits like the peeing after sex. Pretty annoying to use.
Sure, the only difference is some movespeed on rapid fire and perhaps not reaching the far dex nodes. I was originally going to play it as witchhunter for the explode on death to help with clear but ended up going for pathfinder for quality of life.
I'd note that if extra projectiles work like how it does with armour piercing, it splits each projectile into 3 seperate shots (which does mean more shots per reload, but each shot does less damage and fires slower)

Not at all, you can pause on my gear and check prices. It would actually be much cheaper than 1 div but I just bought that xbow for 50ex, and was still doing fine before it. 15's may have been a bit more sketchy though.
it's little better than armor because accuracy of monsters goes down with range. so you can actually have 100% evasion in this game due to range, but you can't hit by melee. melee with evasion =useless.
@@MKP2W ES Is more important than Acro in Hardcore and no one is talking about hardcore, especially when one portal gameplay in Softcore is functionally the same. Acro isn't even used until Maps at the minimum as well so that is the most irrelevant game mode you could use to defend acrobatics. Hardcore mode where the ladder currently has 5 living rangers in the top 100, clearly Acrobatics is required for Hardcore....moron

acrobatics is straight up better than no acrobatics unless your doing a build that requires a high evasion rating base, like Queen of the Forest. You obviously dont get it early because its hurts you more then. But when you get to 15-16k evasion its safe to start using acrobatics. if you have 46k evasion and you're not specifically needing high evasion for anything, you're gimping yourself by not taking acrobatics. Going from 95% chance to evade strikes and projectiles to 85-90% chance to evade ALL HITS is a massive suvivability increase.
Oh God saying scattershot and projectile does nothing... you are totally wrong ! each bullet fire 3 projectile instead of one that how strong this gem is and when you use deadeye +1 projectile you fire 4 projectile per bullet. Also im using Fork + 7% projectile chain from terrain jewel and tree give me 90% chance to chain from terrain without using a 40% gem so all projectile split in 3 and when they hit a wall chain to enemy and for bossing that is insane.
cool build but it being a base fire attack skill really means your scaling options are heavily limited, i doubt you can even reach 1mil dps on this build even on high end budget unless you go howa, even than it wont be that great

"Thrillsteel Spired Greathelm" might be a nice fit for this build. It gives permanent "Onslaught", which is +20% Skill Speed and +10% Movement Speed.

It's great starter crossbow, mainly with ice bolt as it has only one bolt. This completely bypasses ice bolt downside.
The base dmg is too low to compete with late game crossbows I guess but it's rly fun for low levels, using it too

I use that one as a trigger for lightning rod with galvanic shards. Couldn't make it work standalone.

.....I really don't want to play through the campaign again....but the Pathfinder's move and attack penalty reduction is so good.
I've gone through it 4 times now. It gets a lot easier dont worry
A lot of the maps have the same layout, so you can find the exits very quickly

Chain / Fork is better than Pierce. You also can't Chain or Fork if your Bullet Pierces so Pierce kind of works against Chain/Fork.

having no loot filter is a huge red flag that youre not a good player, might not be the case but man i wouldnt risk committing to a build from someone who doesnt even know a basic thing like that
I know you've chosen pathfinder but for non poison builds that dont use concoctions i don't see a reason to pick pathfinder over deadeye .

Not at all, you can pause on my gear and check prices. It would actually be much cheaper than 1 div but I just bought that xbow for 50ex, and was still doing fine before it. 15's may have been a bit more sketchy though.

Evade is just as bad as Armor
it's little better than armor because accuracy of monsters goes down with range. so you can actually have 100% evasion in this game due to range, but you can't hit by melee. melee with evasion =useless.
Acrobatics is bait, my pathfinder has 46,000+ evasion and it feels better to just go pure evade rather than acrobatics
Nope. There are hits that ignore evasion if you do not have acrobatics.
Bro really? There are like 100 different AoE that will kill you in this game. Acrobatics is basically a requirement in hardcore.
@@MKP2W ES Is more important than Acro in Hardcore and no one is talking about hardcore, especially when one portal gameplay in Softcore is functionally the same. Acro isn't even used until Maps at the minimum as well so that is the most irrelevant game mode you could use to defend acrobatics. Hardcore mode where the ladder currently has 5 living rangers in the top 100, clearly Acrobatics is required for Hardcore....moron

When I say it's a requirement, I am of course talking about pure evasion builds. No idea why you think I'm talking about ES. I wasn't particularly talking about hardcore specifically anyway, I just said that to emphasize the point about how many ridiculous aoes exist in the game that will just kill you, which there is.
acrobatics is straight up better than no acrobatics unless your doing a build that requires a high evasion rating base, like Queen of the Forest. You obviously dont get it early because its hurts you more then. But when you get to 15-16k evasion its safe to start using acrobatics.
if you have 46k evasion and you're not specifically needing high evasion for anything, you're gimping yourself by not taking acrobatics. Going from 95% chance to evade strikes and projectiles to 85-90% chance to evade ALL HITS is a massive suvivability increase.
Oh God saying scattershot and projectile does nothing... you are totally wrong ! each bullet fire 3 projectile instead of one that how strong this gem is and when you use deadeye +1 projectile you fire 4 projectile per bullet.
Also im using Fork + 7% projectile chain from terrain jewel and tree give me 90% chance to chain from terrain without using a 40% gem so all projectile split in 3 and when they hit a wall chain to enemy and for bossing that is insane.

cool build but it being a base fire attack skill really means your scaling options are heavily limited, i doubt you can even reach 1mil dps on this build even on high end budget unless you go howa, even than it wont be that great
