Sometimes.......I come here like tonight.......when I want to be reminded that there was an era when BRILLIANCE was the order of the day. When you listen to this woman SING THE NOTES, it is truly OTHER WORLDY. As a Pianist I can hear what she is doing and she is a PURE MASTER OF THE CRAFT OF SINGING. If I had only known that the day would come when this kind of brilliance would disappear, I would have appreciated those of this era EVEN MORE.
A lesson from the master. Carmen was about age 68 when she did this, a time when many singers would be running for the hills, yet her singing is superb.
Thank you for making it possible for us to enjoy this masterpiece. Being a bass player myself, I appreciate the flawless intonation and tone of Mr. Collie as well as the other musicians.
Yes‼️ I haven't seen her on TH-cam before, she's one of my Jazz favorit's, I have music of her, we owned our music earlier, in Lp's, Cd's and Casette Tape's ‼️Thanks for sharing ‼️
A post I will revisit often. The song is fantastic and this wonderful woman was put here to sing it. Did not even know of Carmen McRae ten minutes ago, really appreciate the post!
This lady right here. She could talk just talk to me all day. About whatever. Read the phone book. The Oxford! Whatever and then if you want to sing,,why not⁉️
After you get past Billie and Ella and Sarah and Dinah W and Nancy you come to find Carmen. The best because the most true to herself? or that great vocal sound and phrasing? ...played a great piano when i first saw her in Detroit in the late 1950s....
The woman is an absolutely refined musical instrument
Absolutely!💖

This has been one of my favorite songs for many years - and here I am 89 and still search for a singer who feels it as I do...
Thanks for bringing me back just now to listen again....
Oh How I Loved Carmen Sarah Nancy and The Late and Great Ella!!
Carmen is fantastic; fell in love first time I heard her voice back around 1975. God bless her!
I saw Carmen a couple of weeks after this show. Amazing!! Changed my life.

Love me some Carmen! Unpretentious and immensely talented.

Thank you! Much Respect!
I grew up listening to jazz. Carmen McRae was my favorite vocal. I listened to jazz before R&B, or any other music.
So loved Carmen. Was introduced to her music by my mother, late 50's early 60's. Saw her in Los Angeles at the Parisian room in the 70's.
I lived near the Parisian Room! I was too young to go to the club but the owner knew my Father and I saw many shows!! I watched from a booth.
@@jdjking How utterly cool!
Music and artistry at its finest.
Omg, one of the very finest musicians in the world!
Mad props to Monk's magnificent mastery and to cool Carmen's timeless Artistry! Thx for posting!
My Lady always spoke her mind and my brother always said she sings sacasticlly. I think she sang just like she talked, but one of the best ever.
This is a horrendously hard tune to sing. She is divine on it!
Have you heard Andy Bey and the Bey Sisters' version? Rare Silk (another vocal group) did a fine job with it, too.
Magical Carmen McRae!!!
Enormously talented!
Definitive. Her Monk album is a personal favorite.
When the drummer comes in... and her phrasing.
