Thank you so so much! I had a lot of fun reading about flowers and saints haha definitely went on some wacky tangents, but I'm so grateful you appreciate my ramblings !!
What seems fascinating about Trina is that she does not simply hold the domain over "sleep", if you wish, but that she also shares the dominion of obsession? All the text talking about her talks about how her followers were borderline zealots - something to note, since obsession is a theme of Formless Mother.
@@JujuBoimann Oh, for sure - both Trina and Miq share the domain of obsession, which is why I always felt that he might've tricked Mogh into doing what he did
It also makes sense that Miquella with the appearance of an innocent child would lead people to trust him more. I wonder if St. Trina promised her followers a better reality in dreams to escape their suffering. It would make sense if she and Miquella are the same person since the Haligtree was a place of salvation for the unwanted. He's aware of the power he had as a sweet and pure child and used that to manipulate those looking for kindness. It gives him the perfect base to build his image as the Pure Holy child so he'll have a dedicated following waiting for him when he emerges as an adult.
Don’t forget that in Dark Souls 2, one of the gods established is “Quella, God of Dream” established from the Name-engraved ring and the Grand Spirit Tree Shield. The description of the shield says, “Once there was a boy who was easily frightened, until the talking tree of dreamworld transformed itself into a shield to protect him”.
so interesting how back then it seemed so out of place, just to give insight on a future game. A cool one i noticed is the locust sermons from Ds3, "one, poor girl, slew her own kin. But even so, was embraced, enveloped by the abyss. Twas a comfort neither moon or sunless sky afforded her before" . seems to describe Ranni before she existed
Thank you so much for thinking so! Fun fact: Trina's Lilies are literally described as "exceeding rare to find" but with 130+ existing, i beg to differ!! Thank god for the interactive map!
Okay Miss Chalice I have a theory about Miquella 😭 it’s long but bear with me guys. My theory is that Miquella is an allegory to Ganymede from Greek mythology. In Greek mythology, Ganymede is described as a beautiful male from Troy that even gods struggled resisting temptation from his beauty. He’s depicted in the arts as a youthful male, sometimes with a muscular build, but often as less developed than the average Greek athletic build we see in other art, much like Miquella’s youthful appearance compared to the other gods. A common depiction of Ganymede is with long blonde hair, again, much like Miquella. In the tragic tale of Ganymede, Ganymede is abducted by Zeus in the form of a hawk, (which is also debated to be a hawk that Zeus sent, rather than the Hawk being Zeus himself.) Either way, in some media, Ganymede is willing to go with the Hawk, but in other media, Ganymede is fearful and afraid, resisting the Hawk as it abducts him. In both versions, however, Ganymede ends up being delivered to Olympus where he stays as Zeus’s lover and cupbearer. He is granted immortality to stay eternally youthful. If you already know the lore of Miquella, you may begin to pick up on some of these parallels. Mohg, Miquella’s half-brother, has kidnapped Miquella as of the current timeline in the story. Mohg reasons that Miquella is to become his consort in the mogwhyn dynasty, but it is unsure as to whether Miquella would want this or not, much like the debate over whether Ganymede wanted to join Zeus as his lover in Olympus. Mohg does have wings, and incidentally, he does dive at the player in a hawk-like manner during his boss fight. Mohg’s palace also looks extremely similar to Olympus. It’s pretty much an Ancient Greek temple atop a giant mountain.
WAIT NO WAY. YOURE RIGHT 100%. There's quite a bit of greek imagery in the SOTE trailer as well. It really seems like this is what they were going for. no way it's just coincidence when there's so many parallels
I also wanna say that ganymede is sort of associated with horses like how Zeus gave his father horses or whatever (torrent) & hounds (shadow???) that howled after him when he was taken . kind of a long shot but could be interesting!
As someone who’s finally digging deep into the lore since the dlc dropped, her videos are the only ones I can watch. Other creators videos aged not so well
For sure, Chalice ended up pretty much hitting bullseyes with this one. Although i wish her theory that Thollier would take off his mask & reveal a 3rd eye after his battle was sadly not to be , we ended up just trouncing him after he got jelly, otherwise spot on
I really like how you present information in this video and in general. No assumptions going in, presenting information as completely as you can and drawing conclusions in a gradual digestible pace, but also not overblowing the video's length with wild theories and shots in the dark. Also very enjoyable to listen to
I think it’s worth noting that the bewitching branch - an item that can be gifted at the beginning of the game - has a description that’s very eerie. “Tree branch blessed with an incantation of unalloyed gold. Craftable item. Pierce a foe, using FP to turn them into a temporary ally. The Empyrean Miquella is loved by many people. Indeed, he has learned very well how to compel such affection.” The branch being used to alter the state of mind of others, akin to sleeping spells, seems to be Miquella’s/St. Trina’s main power. It makes me question if Miquella was truly benevolent?
When you spoke about living saints, Celestine immediately popped in my mind, and I was very glad when you mentioned her and the Sisters soon after that, such a cool link to establish between those two franchises 😊
The tangents and real life information are some of the best bits of your videos, love hearing about the potential inspirations behind things in the games
honestly your voicework is incredibly good, very well-spoken and reminds me of the BBC documentaries I watched on TV when I was younger videos are superb overall, excellently presented and thoroughly researched - thank you for your work and I look forward to seeing what new lore you cover when the DLC comes out!
The locations of the clusters of lilies (near albinaurics), Gideon's intentions and his armor (the eyes)... i'd say they might be connected. Maybe St Trina saved the living albinaurics from Gideon at those locations. Also he is often found asleep learning and dreaming would be a type of a parallel (duality light/dark moon etc.) to learning. Every action in the game Gideon takes has to to with Miquella and the player in the end
I think Miquella may have been active as St. Trina when he was in the cocoon, casting an aspect of himself or apparition, as Morgott does with himself as Margit and his father Godfrey, and as Mohg does with himself above the Tomb of the Three Fingers. That deep, yet feminine(somewhat androgynous) voice we hear at the end of the DLC trailer seems like it would be a perfect fit for Miquella as his alter ego, St. Trina, though this could easily be be a new NPC following Miquella’s footsteps. I also think the voice may belong to the character in the dress at the beginning.
yea I always figured st Trina was miquella's astral projection form when he's asleep, and it's said he's slumbering inside the cocoon. Think you're right
I think the entire reason for Miquella imbedded himself in his Haligtree was to divest his flesh and separate the soul from the flesh, like Ranni did but without having to scheme plots against your family. And if Miquella is a wandering soul he may have used a vessel to interact with his followers, again like how Ranni does
As a voice actor who enjoys your work, thank you for recognizing the work that we do that often gets cut from the final product. It happens and is part of the business, but I so very much appreciate your empathy. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
I love your videos im gonna watch them all multiple times leading up to the DLC I want as much knowledge as possible.. Also your mask is beautiful o my god.
Woww... Amazing work and resarch. Love it. You certainly got some "eyes on the inside" here. That's the first video of yours that I've watched. From now on, I'll be watching more. Thanks.
There is a similar mess of Trina's lilies that are growing from a pile of corpses surrounding a haggard looking tree, just west and a little north of the Albinauric village. I think there are about 6 of them there.
Your voice is so nice and soothing to listen to, that I could leave one of your lore videos on and fall asleep to it. I hope you stick around for a while!
I think you're right about miquella and st trina being the same person, because it solidifies the idea that Miquella is "the fiercest of all the emperyeans" by being exactly like Marika - a god with golden hair and 2 forms and the perfect successor.
Played through the DLC, the fact that this video came out 3 months ago (2 months ahead of the DLC release) is really a testament to the degree of sleuthing done by Miss Chalice... no spoilers, but get excited to see the answers to come.
Wonderful video! An idea I had about the connection between Fillia, or albinaurics, to Saint Trina is that Miquella might have used Carian methods to create the oracle envoys
The depth you go to in order to research and deliver the parallels of our world and the world of Elden Ring is absolutely fantastic. I love listening to the lore masters of this world, and Miss Chalice is absolutely fitting the bill as one of the master keepers of the lore
Somehow this video was the exact length that was needed for me to finish my manager stuff at work. Well done Miss Chalice also pretty interesting video
13:08 I may be wrong, but the white flowers (not the lilies, but the ones with rounded petals) look similar to white poppies. In addition to their associations with war and martyrdom, poppies have extremely heavy associations with sleep. Interestingly, there is some Greek folklore regarding poppies being offered to Demeter after Persephone was abducted by Hades… sort of reminds me of the Mogh & Miquella situation
One thing that crossed my mind (I don't recall if this was mentioned in the video, sorry) is that sleep is related to growth, children grow the most during their sleep. And also, having a very "Santa-looking-like" caracter being related to themes of youth and sleep is kinda funny. Great video!
I noticed Trina's lilies seem to lead to dark places. I think Trina, when in the lands between, was a young girl who liked picking flowers, with the ones that glow in the dark being some of her favorite. I think she tragically got "mixed up" with what ever happened to Miquella. Both their flowers remind me very much of the hand in the cocoon at Mohg's. Its reaching up towards the sky where you find eternal darkness and that giant Caelid flower, and then dips down like the position of the lily. I know the item descriptions say Radahn kept Selia safe from the stars, but contrary to that, Mohg's Palace is on top a big fiery rock, surrounded by destruction below a giant crater in Caelid, also surrounded by destruction. And in both cases the Nox have literal nuclear bunker style buildings and happen to be the only structures surviving, that even hide behind others structures. Considering Radahns attacks pull in from a perfect circle outward to inward, and how the destruction around Mohgwyn and nokron look, it would be easy to assume he did that mess. But if instead thats the meteor that the alabaster lords rose long ago, it could explain the origins of the inward pulling gravity effect, which at extreme density, would collapse into a black hole, which would look like eternal darkness spell in game and probably lead somewhere in a fantasy game. There is something going on with the eclipse, the sun realm, and all the rubble and dragons around Caelid, all centered around Miquella. The Full Metal Alchemist vibes are strong
amazing video! I think the missionary cookbooks have something to do with the fevor's. It mentions a man, who unable to become a finger maiden, instead became a missionary spreading holy teachings. the cookbooks teach you stuff like haligbone arrows and sacred pots
I related to Thops too, I much like him felt like a bluntstone throught my whole school life. It had only taken me years after I left school to realise who I was and what my strengths truly are.
Seems like every time I think I have a pretty solid comprehension of a Fromsoft game's lore, you or Vaati have to come along ad put me in my place, lol. This is so well done. Excellent cosplay and a lovely discussion of this character! Guess it's time for me to do a sleep build in honor of St. Trina, who might be one of my new favorite pieces of lore! I love Elden Ring's alchemical themes, and it seems they touch on the concept of the Rebis not only with Radagon/Marika, but also with Miquella/Trina. I wonder if the DLC will see some kind of resolution between those two halves, Miquella having undergone "purification and putrefaction," so to speak, before achieving a whole and balanced form of Lord Miquella and St. Trina as one.
I love to watch your videos before sleep. Even when I disagree with you about the lore, your voice makes me forget about all my problems when I have a bad day.
Perfect! Just high enough for Chalice to teach me what actually happened during this game, because after multiple playthroughs with different builds I still have learned 99.9% of the game's lore through awesome TH-cam lore channels 😁 Great video so far!
Actually, the French symbol is also religious. While it represents the lilly, it also represents the holy Trinity, and the band in the center represents the blessed Mother.
Maybe the aquatic creatures' connection to sleep and St. Trina is to further cement the idea of water's association with un-life (haha) and its semblance to sleep? Great video, as always! p.s. I want to replicate your make-up in this. So enchanting! Haha!
Just a thought but what if St Trina was the alter ego of the Gloam eyed Queen instead, given that gloam means twilight and also Melina’s eye being very similar in colour to the colour associated with sleep
You should start doing some book reading or somthing similar. They way you talk in these lore videos is super relaxing, and I almost fall asleep lissening to them.
Once again, amazing video and well put together! I hope one day fromsoft or mod creators hire you as a voice actor like Vaati in the Archstones mod.. I think it sounds unique and fits the dark souls style.
I so adore your videos. Your writing, flow, presentation and the many many details that we can tell you put a ton of effort into, are appreciated by all of us! Btw the japanese name of Fevor is Faris (or Farris or Pharis, depending on localization choice) Interesting its so different from the english one. Your every video notification makes my day! Can't wait for the next one!
Similar to how Odysseus encountered the Lotus Eaters during his epic journey, lotus flowers were an allegory for the Opium Poppy, from which we get Morphine (named after the Ancient Greek God of sleep & dreams) & whose effects are remarkably akin to the effects described here with St Trina & her lilies. There's so much Greek Mythology in Fromsoft's titles & I love it.
Just an idle observation; the dreambrew NPC interactions where you give them the drink and then learn a secret about them bears at least a passing resemblance to the alcohol based NPC interactions in Sekiro. Different spirits are found throughout the game and you can share them with characters for lore, secrets and even questline advancement.

Awesome Vid!
Thank You very much for Your Work! Greetings from Germany
I related to Thops too, I much like him felt like a bluntstone throught my whole school life. It had only taken me years after I left school to realise who I was and what my strengths truly are.
Confirmed: St. Trina has crabs
17:47 “what better hideaway than in the ARMS of one’s beloved sister?” I hear as I’m looking at a one-armed Malennia 😄
She just decides to stunt on us in every video with these iconic looks
12:38 Lmao Blavatsky and pineal gland mention!! Officially my favorite ER content creator and lore vid
I truly did not expect to see a picture of the cathedral of my hometown in an Elden Ring lore video 💀
Love the video, made me think of rya’s garb she wears has the same fleur-de-lis, and funnily enough she has two forms as well
I love to watch your videos before sleep. Even when I disagree with you about the lore, your voice makes me forget about all my problems when I have a bad day.
Love the lore videos..just have to wait til end of day to listen because her voice is so relaxing I risk falling asleep
This channel is incredible 🤯 Please accept my apologies for not finding you sooner 🤘
Perfect! Just high enough for Chalice to teach me what actually happened during this game, because after multiple playthroughs with different builds I still have learned 99.9% of the game's lore through awesome TH-cam lore channels 😁
Great video so far!
Amazing video! I love your content and I find the game audio clips a bit distracting, so I appreciate having a video where it's just you speaking.
Outstanding video. You and Tarnished Archaeologist have been doing incredible work. Much love
Your voice is so calming, and your videos are always well researched and accurate.
Actually, the French symbol is also religious. While it represents the lilly, it also represents the holy Trinity, and the band in the center represents the blessed Mother.
The St. Trina questline was fantastic 💚💚
damn can't wait to watch this tomorrow doing the dishes, thank you so much girl you rock ❤
thank you ranni irl... love listening to you and thank you for all you do.
Maybe the aquatic creatures' connection to sleep and St. Trina is to further cement the idea of water's association with un-life (haha) and its semblance to sleep? Great video, as always! p.s. I want to replicate your make-up in this. So enchanting! Haha!
I'm always fascinated by the observations you make. Your content is truly cleaver and very well thought out. Thank you for doing what you do.
Your cosplays and videos are so well made. Easily the best Elden ring content creator.
Your voice and beaury brings me peace
Looking dreamy and beautiful as always.
Great video as always. It's like going to school in the best possible way.
Just a thought but what if St Trina was the alter ego of the Gloam eyed Queen instead, given that gloam means twilight and also Melina’s eye being very similar in colour to the colour associated with sleep
I love your voice! I wish you did a colab with Vaati 😅
Your interpretations are in line with what I've always thought. Excellent video!
WE HAVE BEEN FED. ALL HAIL THE LORE MOMMY
Hail!!!
You should start doing some book reading or somthing similar. They way you talk in these lore videos is super relaxing, and I almost fall asleep lissening to them.
This video made me even more excited for the dlc which I didn't know was possible
Once again, amazing video and well put together! I hope one day fromsoft or mod creators hire you as a voice actor like Vaati in the Archstones mod.. I think it sounds unique and fits the dark souls style.
Wow your cosplay is so beautiful! Thanks for another wonderful video 🤍🤍🤍
Queen Chalice...you completely blow me away.
Since I studied biology, I waited for someone to compare the third eye with the pineal gland (that actually was a kind of eye in 'earlier' evolution)
