okay guys im sorry i messed up there IS a sun in Elden Ring. I just never saw it really. I was raised to never look into the sun directly. I also never go outside. What's a sun?
When you look up into the sky theres should be something like a light bulb. You know you found it when your eyes start to hurt. Hope it helps 🗿 P. S. Great cosplay.
I'm a bit disappointed as well, especially since she is directly related to such an important character in the main game. Perhaps the developers wanted to make her seem more mysterious and stoic, which is why they removed her short voice line. It's possible that "Rise, twin moons" was considered redudant, and they wanted the spectacle of her combat to speak for itself. What could have been though...
Thank you so much! I've only captured a fraction of it, but I tried to focus on the main details. I agree; there is something so elegant and delicate yet sturdy about her armour. The beautiful blue fabric draped over it resembles a toga. Perfection. 😩
The part about Rennala cutting her hair and gifting it to Rellana blew my mind. I immediately connected it with the instant of Marika cutting off a braid of her hair at Shaman village when I hadn't before. I've come across a few instances in different cultures across the world where cutting off one's hair is associated with grief or loss. Marika cutting a braid of her hair at Shaman village feels so evocative of that. Looking at it that way, I can't help but think of Rennala being genuinely heartbroken when saying her final goodbye to Rellana, before her younger sister left her family and legacy behind.
My own little head cannon is that, since it seems like Messmer didn't really want to perform the crusade but wanted to make himself the primary enemy for his mother, he played the part. And Rellana didn't know that. All she knew was that Messmer wanted to exterminate these people, so she went all out full scorched earth on places like Moorth to try and impress him and earn his love. But this had the opposite effect on Messmer, seeing it as being remorseless and cruel just like he was acting. Her attempts at proving her love only pushed him away and made him as disgusted with her as he was with himself.
She only showed to like his "ugly" side(what he probably considers too). If I were Messer and a girl did that for me then I'd think that if I took my mask off and spoke openly about myself like the literal opposite of that then she'd think I'm not who she thought I was and probably call me a weirdo, why risk that, I'm not that desperate for a relationship anyway, I have family problems and chronic pain from all these curses and a tarnished legend coming after me. Girlfriend is the last thing Messmer needs now, gg.
I really really like this take. Theres a lot of ways to interpret messmers true feelings but this is one of the better explanations thats narratively satisfying as for why rellana's affection is unreciprocated
Messmer choosing to be 'Death, destroyer of worlds', it's fitting as if he truly cursed, hated, and detested her own mother, he could've easily destroyed her village to spite her. Instead, out of care, (as well as extra irony for 'out of mind, out of sight') he hid it away, and preserved it. Messmer begrudgingly accepted out of want for love and out of care. After all - her mother did, even if I imagine with alot of trauma in literally creating a spawn of evil as one of (perhaps) their first sons (which now that I think about it, is paralleled with Gwyn pushing away to hide his own mistakes, and that of his Firstborn) produced a soreseal to at least, protect him. Rellana for unwanted love (which is extra weird and makes their family tree extra odd given that she has the hots for what is pretty easily obvious the son of your sisters husband), Messmer for not receiving the justification of what was asked of him - even when agreeing. And Marika.. Perhaps realizing it didn't brought solace. Finding sorrow, leaving and hiding it all aside. Perhaps it's why she at the end chose to go along with preventing death. Anyone would have a chance in her world, even if she'll try and break it for all the bad it had brought to her.. Many of the characters deserve a hug, dammit.
This channel has been exactly what I was looking for having only gotten into Elden Ring very recently. Clear, well researched, descriptions of the lore with citations from the game and any speculation clearly indicated. Feel like I understand the world a lot better now - great cosplay too!
Ahh I'm really happy to hear your positive feedback. Thank you for taking the time to watch my content. It's always great to hear that I've helped someone understand something better. It also helps me solidify my own understanding! Your support means a lot to me!
I love the contrast of Messmer and Miquella in this DLC, where Miquella feels compelled to force affection and comraderie that falls apart as soon as his magic fades to brute force his way a unity, while Messmer literally wasn't even trying, he hated his job and probably himself but his devotion, sacrifice, selfless nature and nobility compelled people to literally forsake their birthrights just to follow him- EVEN THOUGH HE WAS COMMITTING A NONSTOP GENOCIDE. His purpose was literally pure inexcusable butchery and evil in a realm cut off from grace, yet he was such an impressive figure that he still compelled people to drop everything and join him. I have no doubt that if he really wanted he could have been Elden Lord himself.
One thing that annoyed me about the DLC was how pathetic it made Miquella look as a lord to have him use his charm willy-nilly. Radahn's Redmanes decided to stay in Caelid fighting a bioweapon for him and were willing to actually fight their lord to give him an honorable death, Malenia's Cleanrots knew damn well she was literally going to be the (horribly painful) death of them and swore fealty anyway, Iji and Blaidd know exactly what Ranni's plan was and support her all the way (even, in Blaidd's case, after being driven insane by the Two Fingers who created him), Rykard's knights were all for his blasphemous ambitions until he decided to become a monster snake, and now Messmer has nobility renouncing their titles to go join a campaign without grace nor honor with him. Even Mogh has Sir Ansbach's loyalty after his own death. Zero mind-control involved, the demigods were just that good. Miquella's guys? They completely fall apart when his charm breaks. Dane's probably the only one who keeps his head screwed on straight while Leda starts teamkilling and the others run off to do their own things and the Tarnished has to personally help them out to get them back on task. This is Godrick-tier leadership skills on Miquella's part.
@@ynwa9885 I know, this was mostly the fault of me forming overly high expectations. I had hoped that Miquella, like his family members, would have been able to engender honest loyalty the hard way, and only needed to use his charm powers temporarily and in self-defense (much like how the Tarnished would use the Bewitching Branch). That people believed in him because he gave them good reason to, that he was actually a good Lord of the Haligtree. I was fully on board with the Miquella Romance Path. Then the DLC came out and I was confronted with a kid who throws temper tantrums when people say no, runs off after the latest distraction and leaves his people to literally rot, has no real respect for other people, and doesn't even realize the problem with using his magic as a cheap shortcut to inspiring loyalty. I'm still bit salty.
@@theawickward2255 Miquella might be a good leader at some point but after Godwyn's death, Our overachiever smol boy just went nuts, and doesn't care anymore. He practically disregarded and discarded everyone he ever cared for. His sister, his brother, the albanurics, St. Trina, residents of his erdtree, etc. In becoming a god, he pretty much left his home and family to ruins.😢
You were looking for Messmer's sign of affection for Rellana but you missed the biggest clue: Castle Ensis. Whether built through Rellana's efforts herself is of little consequence. The important part is the location. Surely, a castle of such size and closeness to the Shadowkeep, you can even argue it feels like a vanguard against enemies, will have to have Messmer's permission (just like with the Crucible Storeroom). Rellana couldn't have just went "Well I want a castle here next to Messmer's." and started building willy-nilly. I think Messmer acknowledged Rellana's feelings but cannot reciprocate it because of his duty and the Base Serpent (he resigned himself to his fate maybe as nothing but a vessel for it?). Also, his mommy issues.
Haha ikr! I thought the same. I would have been clueless if I hadn't made that desperate Google search. I felt like I was missing out on some inside joke, but I fell down a cultural rabbit hole. What an experience!
There is much discussion around the Two Moons but I have my own theory as to why we see two moons at all. The one moon we see all the time is physically there but the Dark Moon isn't always visible. Something that's always been associated with Ranni but never gets highlighted is summonings. When you meet here she gives you the spirit calling bell. When you fight her mother she prioritizes not just the Moon Spells but also Spirit Summoning implying most of there Spiritual Power comes directly from the moon. So the second moon? Is really the first moons spirit manifested by Ranni herself which is why the Moon was able to appear at the Lands Between at the end of the game when you repair the Elden Ring. We are looking at the Moons Soul itself perhaps even the only time we see a potential Outer God face to face.
I think that each daughter of the Carian Royal family has a 'Moon' of their own. These may be different faces of the same stellar entity that are most compatible with each daughter of Caria. It's notable that it is Ranni who is Lunar Princess, neither Rdahn nor Rykard are ever styled as Lunar Prince. I think that the Moon we see in the sky is whichever Carian daughter is in primacy, hence why we always see Renalla's Moon save for when Ranni is exerting her influence. I bet at the end of the game after her ascension the only Moon in the sky is the Dark Moon.
I was so wholly unprepared to hear Lunar Paraphrase at the end of this video that it shocked me into tears. You bring something vital and wholly original to this little community of people for whom Elden Ring is also a special interest game. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Turns out Rellana was just the most caked up, twin moons indeed. Edit: Just wanna say sorry for the fact that on this lovely, well made, thoughtful video my dumbass is in the top rated comments.
that girl got an ass like she smuggling two full moons across the border in her back pockets.🤌 When that armour come off legends hold that rellana can give a standing ovation by doing partial calf raises.😈 Girl wanted mesmer's malevolent snake to take a bite of her forbidden fruit if ya get what im saying..😏 Those stargazers that followed rellana did so because its much easier to fully study and commit to memory, the beauty of a celestial body... when shes up close. 🧐 Some say radahn's REAL reason for learning gravity magic was because he wanted to prove he could handle all dat ass.💪 Ok im done.
The 9:48 Willem Dafoe got me lol. I adore your videos, appreciate that you're thorough and clear with options, and weight them with likelihoods. Your voice is lovely and the lore play is always a nice emotive touch. In fact, your whole videos do. I'm always surprised by the slow evolution from mystery and intruige to a dawning realization that there's a connecting, human thread underneath all the abstraction. Richest Elden Ring lore channel imo. Thanks for the time you put into these.
Not much but this is because I've been liking your content so far as a new subscriber for a few weeks and I've been loving the Elden ring videos especially. All I wanna say very great job on the cosplay. And great content that I can't wait to see in the future! Much love, much thanks! ❤🙂🔥
Her helmet alone is menacing yet elegant. She is genuinely one of my favorite bosses to fight and her design is one of my favorite things to come out of the DLC! Also, your cosplay is just so good!
I wonder if Rellana's opponent in the performance of ritual combat was Messmer, with both duelling on an equal playing field, with a sword and shield each. After the bout, maybe they exchanged pieces of their equipment, with Rellana gifting her Carian shield, and Messmer gifting his fiery sword. It could also show symbolically how they feel about each other, with Rellana still holding her received gift, and Messmer discarding both into an obscure corner, explaining their locations in Shadow Keep.
If you consider the twin moons to be 1 moon, then there are 4 moons mention. Full Moon, Dark Moon, Twin Moons, and the Solitary Moon. The Solitary Moon is mentioned in the Gaol knight sword.
My god this cosplay looks brilliant. Her armor-set is my absolute favorite. I can only imagine how long it must have took you to make it look this close to the original. Even though your cosplay looks far better with the helmet off, I can't help but wonder if there also exists one... (Or hand guards for that matter)
Thanks so much! I spent weeks working on it and only got as far as the chest, pauldron, and shoulder. I'm planning to keep adding to it eventually! Was a great project, and I'm so pleased you like it!
@@kyte5648she probably used EVA foam as it's the most common, apart from specific paint/sealants and contact ciment you don't really need any particular tools. A lot of cosplayers cut everything with a cutter and/or scissors. Sandpaper can be real helpful though
@@IrisDImtv Ansbach is a Npc and has a questline this Dlc really dropped the ball on the Main bosses almost half of them don't have a shred of dialogue or a cutscene for being classified as "Main Bosses"
One interesting thing to note is that we know from the various items linked to Messmer that he was rather close with his men (The Fire Knights are described as the only ones who truly knew him, Gaius and Messmer are implied to have had a brotherly bond, and it's mentioned that Messmer mourned the loss on even a Black Knight who turned traitor) so he clearly did his best to keep up with what was going on with his men and wasn't exactly the aloof Lord one might expect him to be from his brooding in an unlit room. Now, whether you decide to use this information for MessLlana comfort or MessLlana angst is not for me to decide, but personally I like to believe that the fact he kept the Shield from Rellana's single entrance into Ritual Combat all this time (in his own castle no-less, not just some outpost) when that duel may well have been even before the Land of Shadow was sealed away (aka pre-shattering, so THOUSANDS of years ago) means that if nothing else he did definiately have feelings for her as well - even if he may not have been able to show them the way he (and Rellana) might have wanted.
It honestly is such a bittersweet reading of their story.. I never thought of that, but now I tend to agree. It was not unrequited love, it's just that both of them weren't much good with expressing their feelings directly, it seems (at least for Messmer this feels very on point noting his upbringing, cold and distant mother, who mostly communicared in imperatives and also feared him which she manifested in constantly asserting dominance insted of showing love, support and empathy). As for Rellana, well, she doesn't get a single line in the game, so I see her more as an introverted character, who might appear cold on the outside bc of it (the Dark Moon of the Twin Moons) but is charming, awe-inspiring and DEEPLY feeling (just like Rennala) if you get to know what's going on inside her head (the Full Moon of the Twin Moons, the lower one in the picture). It's also symbolic that she never shows her face, hiding behind that beautiful helmet - I actually think that Messmer is not the only reason she did not feel right being a princess. All of the attention and expectations to constantly smile and charm and keep up the facade didn't sit right with her, a recluse and kind of a nerd, who's only been passionate about studying celestial magic, honing her sword art (and later Messmer). And naturally charming Rennala was already there. So perhaps when Rennala became the queen, Rellana felt, like she didn't need to go on carrying the burden of royalty, playing power-games, suffering from people at the court looking down on her due to her introverted nature. She felt like Rennala was now standing strong on her own two feet and didn't really need her to be there for her anymore (while she most likely supported her throughout their youth and before her becoming the Head of the Carian royal family (likely after their mother and the former queen passed, which we know nothing about), probably even in the early days of Rennala's rule). Her obligation to her sister was complete so she was able to finally let fo and just follow her passions (and her true love). And Rennala gave her the hair-do (I actually think it would be cute if Rennala DID Rellana's hair, like the girls do each other's hair at sleepovers AND in the game we see Rellana with a loose braid - what if it was Rennala who braided her now also black hair one last time and used som emagic for it to stay this way?) as not just a parting gift and a show of their sisterly love, but as a thanks (Rellama always hiding behind the helmet likely wasn't good with the hairstyles so maybe it was also Rennala's attempt to help her sister be her most beautiful self when she comes to the her beloved Messmer, her blessing? Rellana probably didn't get this side of the gesture though). OMG I am now this person writing fanfiction-y walls of texts in the comments under a lore TH-cam video, I am deeply sorry!!!! But one last thing. To me MessLlana dinamics reminded of Kanroji (if she was more introverted and socially awkward) and Obanai (everything on point: the snakes, the family trauma, the eyes, painful body alteration which would be a constant reminder of one's "flawed" nature and damage their self-image) from the Demon Slayer anime: they both love each other, but choose to express it through actions of kindness and care fro each other, not through words, and both can't see that those actions are the clues of how the second person feels, so they think themselves undeserving of a happy relationship (bc past trauma) and believe their feelings to be unrequited. Just a random similarity I noticed.. In all, I NEED the "Encanto"-inspired remake of Elden Ring where the hole bunch of our favourite gods, demigods and royals finally get to process their trauma, aknowledge the damage done, break the cycle of violence and the generational family trauma pipeline and finally start healing. +10 points if they also all sing and Miquella is voiced by Taylor Swift.
@@jeanmari-antoinebalder6593 Bro don't apologise, you fucken COOKED! The idea of Rennala actually doing Rellana's plait is such a sweet idea (and while I personally still believe that it's not actually Rellana's own hair as it's on her helmet when we get it - the fact it's plaited to begin with would imply Rennala at least plaited it before she gave it to Rellana, so the intent may well have been the same as you mentioned). Also tbh, you low-key convinced me to give reading Demon Slayer another go with that analogy I'm ngl-
I hope Ranni has more luck with her consort eternal than her mother and auntie did with their respective crushes, the lands between can't stand another shattering of divine proportions
Well one of them had a crush that never came to fruition or wasn't noticed the other had a husband which from her perspective abandoned her and her children for a Queen who has higher influence and power compared to her
considering the consort is you as the player, you can kinda define that with your actions trying to attack her after giving her the ring feels like the path her mother and aunt had she says: "What hopest thou to profit? Hmph. So, this is the measure of my Lord? Perhaps it is precisely what I deserve. ...For surrendering myself to delusion." on the other hand, if you talk to her in doll form in her rise after finishing her quest, she changes her dialogue in the ending cutscene from "Well then. Shall we? ...My fair consort, eternal." to "Well then. Shall we? My dear consort, eternal." in her questline she gives multiple opportunities for you to abandon her, she goes out her way to tell you what she's doing and that "this is the endline, this time for real, you can leave now, you have no obligation to follow me" yet you still keep going, after finishing her quest, the dialogue she gives at her rise tells you about her order you can still decide not to be her consort by not summoning her after defeating elden beast so she tells you "Wouldst thou come to me, even now, my one and only lord?" when you summon her after that dialogue, you declare the full extend of your intentions, you're truly dear to her
29:10 I interpret the word “ever” here as being synonymous with “forever”, which would totally change the meaning. Rather than implying that the two were never together in life, it could mean that they were, but the union was doomed to end. Only the swords would be left as a permanent symbol of their love.
Same, I thought that it's a reference to how star crossed they were in TLB, and were only able to be together in exile. Sigh. Who has the fanfiction? Gimme gimme!
The Carian women are some of my favourite characters in the game, and Rellana is one of my new favourite bosses, so I was super excited to see this video!!! Really well presented. And I ADORE that cosplay you look amazing and the detail on the armor is wonderful!!
Wonderful story, wonderful cosplay, wonderful script, wonderful research, wonderful video. Honestly, our Chalice is always so consistent. Regarding a suggestion for the next video - Midra. Such a cool character and my favorite boss fight in the DLC.
In the translation: 月と火は、ここでは常に共にあった, the 「では」 particle shows contrast. For example, if it were just ここで it would read as how you said it: “moon and fire were always together here” But since it’s ここでは, it gives the nuance that something is unique or exclusive to this situation “HERE, moon and fire were always together” I hope that make sense 😅
i have been so down but it has been such a joy to listen to you again! and get lost in such a well made and explained video- thanks Miss Chalice your work is wonderful
Because of Ranni’s ending I wonder if the moon is the absence of Outer God influence. That the Greater will is at its weakest when the moons are both in the sky and sorcery is at its strongest. Messmer was so connected to the base serpent that even something that locked the influence of gods couldn’t help him.
I believe that the dark moon and the great moon are both separate Outer Gods. Maybe in the same sense as Miquella/St. Trina and Radagon/Marika are two halves of the same soul.
That isn't true since from the beginning the Greater Will abandon the cosmology after it created it, where it went is unknown, currently it mostly the fingers, elden beast, and Metyr now behind the scenes. As for the moons could be outer gods then again Ymir said that the moon is just that, the moon, nothing special about it, so perhaps an outer god is just using it's image to influence the lands, highly doubt it but there is a possibility
Messmer is pretty emotional, making his child hood friend commander of his army, and when he had to bury his friends he felt sadness, he seems like he could be able to have emotions towards her, even if a little
You've always been one of my favorite lore channels, but waiting a month after the DLC launched to talk about it has made you my all-time favorite. I had the final boss spoiled for me on my homepage LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER LAUNCH because these lore channels are so hungry for content. Much, much respect. And great video as always.
It's interesting that the Sword of Night and Flame is an heirloom to the Carian family that probably existed before Rellana. It's almost like a prophesy of Rellana, Renalla, and even Ranni's unions. A song of Ice and fire, if you will
Yeah I thought rellanas swords were gonna be a complete reference/parallel of the sonaf but I liked the touch that her fire sword is mesmers flame instead of giants flame. Now if only they'd truly explain what mesmers flame is 😭
I think the Liarnia sorceress and students are astrologists. They where looking up towards the stars and discovering the secrets of the universe (similar to how in real life astrologers discovers new planets and stars and such) . But in elden ring by doing so they also unlock new sorceries in the process. So when the item description mentions "She found a full moon and presented it for the academy". I take it as she had discovered a new moon in space and showed it for the others and that also materialize as her magic.
I cried a little at the end of this as the lore all came together. The parallels between the sisters and Ranni got me in the feels. I always look forward to a Chalice lore vid!
There is a sun in the game, it's just very small and appears rarely. I spent over an hour traveling around and staring at the sky before I first saw it and took pictures of it.
I stumbled across your channel a couple days ago, and I absolutely love it. The Carian family and Rennala, Rellana, and Ranni have always captured my attention (mostly because I've always had an obsession with the night and Lunar entities n' lore/history). Rellana's armor is absolutely beautiful, I've been using her helm and chestplate along with the Carian Knight boots and gauntlets. It just works so well together.
I knew there was more to her than just being a "Pontiff Sulyvahn" clone. And I suppose you've heard this before, Miss, but congratulations on the cosplay! These eye contacts almost make you seem like an actual different person.
I love that we have managed to make a million jokes from innuendos about those two. Without the jokes it's just a really tragic possible love story, and 2 difficult but balanced boss fights.
That section about hair was really interesting and I've never really seen anyone else talk about it (yet). Marika also cut an entire braid from her golden hair as an offering to "the Grandmother".
Randomly searching for Elden ring's lore. Ending up discovered a channel with such dedication of information gathering, cosplay fitting and a soothing voice that could calm my soul for a while. Subscribed.
Your cosplay of Rellana is beautiful. Fitting for her character. They did her armor and blades a lot of justice but it's such a sad thing there isn't more we get of her. I had a passing thought. Doesn't seem like there's much to support it and calling it a stretch might be generous. I had the passing thought that the moon might be a more benevolent outer god choosing the form of the moon to watch over the lands between/land of shadow and appearing differently to those who could be its vessel. I don't truly believe this is the case but it would be interesting (at least to me) if it were the case.
That gank squad is the most respectful/disrespectful fight. Like they talk respectfully, but Moore drew my ire with those rot pots. Bro should've stood aside and let the Lord through
Based on the tense used in the Japanese description of her swords (specifically “tomo ni atta”), I’d translate it as more along the lines of: “The moon and fire were always together ever since.” Possibly in reference to the actual forging of the swords. Food for thought! Thanks for the great video as always!
About the change in moon icon - the moon visible in the Lands of Shadow is *very* much a cresent moon... perhaps the change is meant to reflect that Rellana's power is affected by her being stuck there? Also, given Messmer & Gaius were elder brothers to Radahn, the sewing needle timing matches up fine :)
@@BusinessSkrub Well, yeah, but it means they're older and have an active relationship. Which means Radahn has been born for some time (especially given he and Gaius were bff gravity trainees). I was never asserting Gaius was his bio brother or anything lol
@@gurun8071 Yes. The description is talking about Gaius, primarily. Messmer is included as a secondary subject because the point is that they were both "elder brothers" to Radahn but obviously Gaius is not literally his brother as he is an albanuric and not related by blood in any way. I dont understand what you're trying to contend with here Like, Messmer is absolutely, textually stated Marika's son, meaning at bare minimum he is a partially bio brother to Radahn (born of Radagon - who IS Marika). AND its 99% likely Messmer is also Radagon's son, meaning its even more of an actual sibling relationship.
5:32 the combo visual of Renalla just floating around in her boss room, along with your description of “She’s far too busy with her egg” hit my funny bone in a way I don’t even think I can describe 😂
Love the deep bond between Rellana and Messmer, and keeping the subject in the space it would be cool a video about Jolan and Ymir, loved their questlines. Amazing video, you have outdone yourself!
I think the nature of Midra’s relationship with Nanaya, why they summoned/harbored the frenzied flame, and the aging untouchables would be suuuper cool to hear more about!!! Together with your astonishing cosplay skills I’m sure it’d make for a great video, although not as the next one maybe in the future :)
I operate upon simple (fundamental) premises::. I see that a brand new Miss Chalice video has dropped; immediately I click _...and just as immediately, I hit 'like', knowing (with unwavering certainty) that what I'll behold is yet another example of superlative narration and exposition... delivered with impeccable poise and charm_
I think the shields presence in a storeroom tells the whole story. You put something in a store room if you’re not using it. You let it collect dust and forget about it. Rellana probably had the shield made for the duel, used it that one time, and then Messmer had the shield stored, paying no mind to Rellana. She definitely loved him, but I definitely believe it was one sided.
Girl you'd make a tarnished blush look at you! Nice work on the outfit. If there is one thing i love about elden ring is how with all thats out there in the lore about rennala, rellana, and rani, and lunar magic in general, the writers did a fantastic job of leaving alot "obscured" pardon the pun... That feel of mystery and wonder never goes away. Always more questions and puzzle pieces you gotta put together... Love it.
probably my favorite video of yours thus far, and i'd like to believe that's not just because my lifelong admiration for the moon has now been validated by one of the best games ever made (lol) the cosplay is great, the research and presentation are great really really well done, chalice

Thanks for a making this game into a story for me properly, youve helped me re-understand what each thing ive encountered means in a different perspective with a lovely storytelling voice. And yeah special interest crowd checking in here! right on
The lore for Er and DS games still blows my mind. I think its a good mix of being vague enough to allow fans to speculate while having a writing team on the devs who are so good at telling a story without tons of exposition. While being such a grim story, neither of the IPs are yay humanity we are the greatest and you are the only person to be able to save us adventurer. While the story says this we are by beating the game the one to save the world in a sense.

Thank you so much! I've only captured a fraction of it, but I tried to focus on the main details. I agree; there is something so elegant and delicate yet sturdy about her armour. The beautiful blue fabric draped over it resembles a toga. Perfection. 😩
Rellana’s armor looks like a noblewomen from our history. Somewhat like Joan of Arc
@@Maria_Bankstall ladies that can kick my ass
I see we have a type here
my fashion for a while was Rellana's helm, Mesmer chestplate, and some black pants, then I found Sauron helm and Fire Knight chestplate to combine.
It's an interesting way of saying goodbye...
Leaving part of them behind with the place or the person they love.
It's pretty sad though.
I'm glad we can get a cutscene of Patches kicking us off a cliff but not even one for Rellana...
Two years later and I had no idea that cutscene existed. Had to look it up after reading your comment.
2 scenes of patches kicking us off a cliff, maybe even 3.
I'm glad we can get a cutscene of a small bridge rising from lava but not one for Rellana...
Patches is an important lore character who travels through the mutiverse to kick people, while she is just an optional boss who likes nuking us.
Been waiting for this video for so long ngl
I don’t think messmer is disgusted with his actions. He might hate his mother and the path she set him on but religious fervor is a powerful thing.
I really really like this take. Theres a lot of ways to interpret messmers true feelings but this is one of the better explanations thats narratively satisfying as for why rellana's affection is unreciprocated
This almost sounds like my love life with my ex haha
@@theawickward2255that makes sense tho. Miquella didn’t inspire loyalty, he forced it. When his force was gone, they had nothing left to respect him
@@ynwa9885 I know, this was mostly the fault of me forming overly high expectations.
@@theawickward2255
Miquella might be a good leader at some point but after Godwyn's death,
Our overachiever smol boy just went nuts, and doesn't care anymore.
He practically disregarded and discarded everyone he ever cared for.
His sister, his brother, the albanurics, St. Trina, residents of his erdtree, etc.
In becoming a god, he pretty much left his home and family to ruins.😢
You were looking for Messmer's sign of affection for Rellana but you missed the biggest clue:
Castle Ensis.
These are some of my favourite videos on TH-cam. The story you tell, the narration and the cosplay is all top tier. Really appreciate it, well done!
Thank you so much. Comments like yours make this so rewarding! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
whoa this part 11:40 the turtle and moon thing is so cool, i just thought "lol dogs" 😂

It's almost poetic, the moon will chase the bright burning sun, but will never truly have it
And their lovers both have "burning" red hair that probably never returned that love back/left her heartbroken and mentally destroyed
The carians just go about mooning everywhere they go... they're also one of the more emotional/passionate/devoted characters in the lore.
I wouldn't mind being mooned by rellana 😋😋😋
If you consider the twin moons to be 1 moon, then there are 4 moons mention. Full Moon, Dark Moon, Twin Moons, and the Solitary Moon. The Solitary Moon is mentioned in the Gaol knight sword.
I wasnt ready for the artist's depiction of the twin moons screaming
My god this cosplay looks brilliant.
Her armor-set is my absolute favorite. I can only imagine how long it must have took you to make it look this close to the original.
Even though your cosplay looks far better with the helmet off, I can't help but wonder if there also exists one...

What about chad Ansbach?

Well one of them had a crush that never came to fruition or wasn't noticed the other had a husband which from her perspective abandoned her and her children for a Queen who has higher influence and power compared to her
considering the consort is you as the player, you can kinda define that with your actions
trying to attack her after giving her the ring feels like the path her mother and aunt had
she says:
"What hopest thou to profit?
Hmph.
So, this is the measure of my Lord?
Perhaps it is precisely what I deserve.
...For surrendering myself to delusion."
on the other hand, if you talk to her in doll form in her rise after finishing her quest, she changes her dialogue in the ending cutscene
from "Well then. Shall we? ...My fair consort, eternal." to "Well then. Shall we? My dear consort, eternal."
in her questline she gives multiple opportunities for you to abandon her, she goes out her way to tell you what she's doing and that "this is the endline, this time for real, you can leave now, you have no obligation to follow me"
yet you still keep going, after finishing her quest, the dialogue she gives at her rise tells you about her order
you can still decide not to be her consort by not summoning her after defeating elden beast so she tells you "Wouldst thou come to me,
even now,
my one and only lord?"
when you summon her after that dialogue, you declare the full extend of your intentions, you're truly dear to her
29:10 I interpret the word “ever” here as being synonymous with “forever”, which would totally change the meaning. Rather than implying that the two were never together in life, it could mean that they were, but the union was doomed to end. Only the swords would be left as a permanent symbol of their love.
Same, I thought that it's a reference to how star crossed they were in TLB, and were only able to be together in exile.
Sigh.

Such a cool character and my favorite boss fight in the DLC.
In the translation: 月と火は、ここでは常に共にあった, the 「では」 particle shows contrast. For example, if it were just ここで it would read as how you said it: “moon and fire were always together here” But since it’s ここでは, it gives the nuance that something is unique or exclusive to this situation “HERE, moon and fire were always together”
I hope that make sense 😅
i have been so down but it has been such a joy to listen to you again! and get lost in such a well made and explained video- thanks Miss Chalice your work is wonderful

It's interesting that the Sword of Night and Flame is an heirloom to the Carian family that probably existed before Rellana. It's almost like a prophesy of Rellana, Renalla, and even Ranni's unions. A song of Ice and fire, if you will

I dont understand what you're trying to contend with here
Like, Messmer is absolutely, textually stated Marika's son, meaning at bare minimum he is a partially bio brother to Radahn (born of Radagon - who IS Marika). AND its 99% likely Messmer is also Radagon's son, meaning its even more of an actual sibling relationship.
All Rellana wanted was for Messmer to notice her caked up moons... alas, she was never impaled by him to her dismay.
love ur content chalice!!
5:32 the combo visual of Renalla just floating around in her boss room, along with your description of “She’s far too busy with her egg” hit my funny bone in a way I don’t even think I can describe 😂
She could've gotten a cutscene but nah, volcano manor bridge, that deserves a cutscene
INSANE and it was such a long cutscene as well omg
To be fair, that is one hell of a bridge
@@TheRedThirst wish the ladder would have gotten one in bloodborne as well, only thing missing from that game to be 10/10 😂
But volcano manor bridge is very essential to the lore.
Black Butler community would be proud

I came for the elden ring lore, almost fell asleep with that soothing pampering voice.
Nice thumbnail with the eight moons, love the content, keep it up!!
DAMN! This is your best vid so far! Thanks
10:00 that meme face caught me off guard 🤣🤣🤣
also thats probably most players seeing base game radahns meteor attack for the first time
25:33 I am very impressed you managed to create such a beautiful face in game. Mine always derails at some point of the character creation. ^^
Wake Up Babe, Lore Mommy Just Uploaded a new Video 🫣❤️
Love the deep bond between Rellana and Messmer, and keeping the subject in the space it would be cool a video about Jolan and Ymir, loved their questlines. Amazing video, you have outdone yourself!
We all want to know about the Roons of Menalla fed to us in a near-asmr manner.
As a fluent Japanese speaker, I play Elden Ring in Japanese. When I read the twin blade description, I personally did interpreted 常に共に as lovers.
also the name Rellana and Renalla レラーナ and レナラ confused me for a while. The english is so much easier to say.
Your voice calms my mind in a way that I didn't think was possible. At the same time it holds attention because I love the lore you talk about.
Most underrated lore page, love listening to these vids when I want to learn something new or just relax
Her voice is so calming and she so pretty. It's like a random Goddess of lore just appears sometimes to bestow the more upon me
33:13 you found a way to make the tragedy of the two sisters love so moving.
I listen to your videos to relax but also expand my favorite game lore knowledge. 10/10 everything (Also 1 month pause hope all is ok!)
LETS GOOO perfect content for pumping major iron to! Keep on truckin chalice you are actually a beast!
Your look for this video is so breathtaking.
Love it.
probably my favorite video of yours thus far, and i'd like to believe that's not just because my lifelong admiration for the moon has now been validated by one of the best games ever made (lol)
the cosplay is great, the research and presentation are great
really really well done, chalice
As always, I love your loreplays! Great costume, and your delivery is fantastic! I'm glad you broke into the DLC with the Carian family!
Gripping as always! Thank you for all your time and effort put into these videos, they are always interesting and high quality. I was amazed the the whole dog moon calendar thing!
The last part was beautiful, the music was a really good pick along with the quote
The armour your made is really beautiful. Looking forward with you wearing the helm
I’d like to thank you for your amazing work! Your cosplays are simply stunning and wonderfully executed. The depth of care and love for the topics you cover is extraordinary. You also have an exceptional and soothing voice to listen to! Keep up the good work and stay safe amongst the many dangers in the lands between.
You rocked that cosplay, well done :)
Very nice vid, looking forward to your next lore vids on the DLC!
I've been able to to listen to each and every one of your videos since I discovered you about a couple weeks ago. Amazing storytelling and a wonderful voice to add to everything. I'm very much looking forward to your next video!
You are incredibly in-depth with your analysis. I mean that as a compliment, and I hope you know your videos are amazing.
Man I can't wait this long! I need more! You and Vatii are starving us! (Awesome video)
Just found your channel. Just getting into Elden ring so I enjoy the info in your videos but also I'm sure you;ve been told before but your voice is amazing to listen to. Please do audiobooks! lol.
Great vid as always, sweet cosplay too. Bonus point for the Wallace Stevens inclusion, heavent read his poetry in a long time, brings me back. I would love to see your take on the Fingers next, the coolest enemies and areas in the dlc imo
Thanks for a making this game into a story for me properly, youve helped me re-understand what each thing ive encountered means in a different perspective with a lovely storytelling voice. And yeah special interest crowd checking in here! right on
your cosplay and narrative throughout this is amazing
The lore for Er and DS games still blows my mind. I think its a good mix of being vague enough to allow fans to speculate while having a writing team on the devs who are so good at telling a story without tons of exposition. While being such a grim story, neither of the IPs are yay humanity we are the greatest and you are the only person to be able to save us adventurer. While the story says this we are by beating the game the one to save the world in a sense.
