I know that brake fluid bubbles up the paint too. Try a little on a test piece of something and see. Making some good progress on the Mini. I hope it all works out for you. That colour of purple reminds me of lithograph ink.
I can agree. We have Aircraft Grade Paint stripper at work and it's some of the most potent stuff I've used. Gorilla gloves don't stand a chance with that paint stripper
You are an amazing fabricator and I love seeing your projects come to life. I am a fabricator by trade so I know talent when I see it and you are on a superhuman level. Keep up the good work hopefully the younger generation takes notes.
Next time you strip paint, you can speed things up and save yourself a whole lot of work... Spray or brush the stripper on as thick as you can, then cover it with Saran wrap or similar so it is kept wet as long as possible. Yes, it helps to rough up the paint a bit first, so the stripper can penetrate better. But the main thing is to use the plastic wrap to seal the stripper against the paint and keep it from drying as long as possible because it stops working when dry. Plus, the plastic wrap helps contain the mess when the paint starts to come off. Bondo is another thing... a heat gun and chisel or putty knife are the least messy way to get the bulk of it off... but the last of it will require sanding and kick up a lit of dust.
I don't know what you've done as far as the paint finish on the mini yet, but here is a suggestion do with it as you please, completely stripped , use "Bull Dog" self etching primer, it's clear, then spray candy purple over it . Which will leave all the scuffing of the metal exposed like on that front fender where y'all were testing. And that would look wild and it want rust because the bull dog is a self etching primer. Just a thought.
I enjoy seeing people comment about how hot or cold it is. Where I live, you'd still find people in t-shirts and shorts at those temps. At the same time, we'd pretty much melt into the pavement during your hottest periods. I used to live down south (I'm now retired to Maine) and it only took a year or so to adjust to the temperatures. I also have the appropriate gear to deal with cold weather. It's also seasonal. Those temps would feel chilly in the summer when you're acclimated to the heat. If you saw those temperatures (here) in February, it'd be balmy weather.
Amazing work during this video! I love the dimpled gussets! Watching you build this thing is inspiring! I have a 1982 Volkswagen Rabbit with 46k miles on the original engine. I have always wanted to put huge ATV tires on it and make it 4x4 somehow, using Honda 4x4 Foreman axles, and then put in a snowmobile engine and clutch driven drive system. Kind of like a Polaris Razor or a Can-Am Maverick with a Volkswagen Rabbit body swapped on to it. ❤
On your paint , try putting some pearl in the first coat of clear coat . Maby one with a little purple in a clear coat . A friend of mine put some ghost flames in pearl that would appear and disappear as the sun moved down the car .
I truly expected to see Janell come into the shop with 2 small bowls of Sunday (for Boys) and spoons, and a carton of milk. Zack and Rudy would have been thrilled.......Missed opportunity. LOL !!
In the summer of 1969, I was 11 years old. My dad had this great idea of converting a school bus into a camper. We raised the roof 12" because my dad was tall. I learned how to weld that summer. But the thing I remember the most was it was my job to take that school bus down to bear metal. I used a grinder with a wire brush. That was a LOT of work!
First of all Zack, when Rudy left he forgot to say, I thought he'd never leave ! Followed by, welcome to the Zack show, first of all let's go have lunch. 😉 👍
You could use the dimple holes in the back part of the rollbar, right next to the back of the seats to mount your taillights . That way your wiring will be shorter and you can get it done faster. Keep up the great work you guys and gal . God bless you all and your families. 😊👍🙏🏼
Great cooper vid. Nothing like tight deadlines to stress a build out. Bit worried about your psychedelic bedroom lighting- can't imagine that being super calming! Glad your able to rope in decent help, like Trevor, for the inevitable mad dash at the end. Good luck.
But doesn't get into the corners and cracks like the gel strippers, so... Yeah. We've gone from being able to get caustic products that worked, to getting mandatory handing and remediation, to NOT getting products that work. But the idiots still call it "progress."
I've used CitriStrip on paint before, but not on automotive paint. I know it does work better if you can keep it wet as long as possible by covering it with plastic. If you happen to need to use it on a future project.
Soak red onions in honey overnight then take a tablespoon of spoon or two of the concoction, fights off colds and sore throats better than the store bought stuff (use local honey not the major brand name honey)
@@Bryanja81 I should have mentioned but it needs to be an airtight container (glass preferably).. my grandma used to make it and have it on hand, worked better than the commercial cough medicine
Y'all need a sandblaster, as many projects as you work on, and as much metal as you need to clean, prep etc. Blast that red AND some of the Bondo off! I need someone with you and your Pop's knowledge on XJ's. Picked up a sweet, straight, clean '99 Sport with a local history and personality. She's tired, squeaky, and stock. I'd love to slap 2 of the axles Robby has in a pile, and suspension like you guys do, so I could sneak 40's under her. Will be at least a 4.5 lift go under her before end of Winter anyhow, and as big of tires as I can sneak on. Absolutely love the beast so far, beefed up it'll be amazing. My '19 Trailhawk is actually the first Cherokee I ever drove. Kinda fun how much in common the two have, and then also the stark differences. Would love the 2.0T and 9 speed in the '99! Would be a hoot.
Great video Kids, the build looks awesome! Rudy, you sure are being tricky with your sponsor segment. You guaranteed that people would watch it by having the lovely Miss Janelle do the segment. Keep up the great work guys!
I have tried most things for paint removal after 40 plus years of dinking around with vehicles (not a professional body guy/stripper) - strippers are very messy and toxic! DA grinder works great - just dusty and takes some time then there is media blasting and that works great depending on the selected media. I have used Walnut shell and sand which turned out well.
The 3 spray bottles at Sam's club. Oven Cleaner bottles will eat that paint off to bare metal. Even using a power washer afterwards will just help more to get the paint off.
Make sure you have seriously skookum hoses going to that oil cooler, it's a full flow cooler. Never happened on mine, but have heard about hoses blowing off and emptying the oil pan in seconds.
They will all dry up unless you cover the area with plastic taped off all around to keep the air off it. Leave it for the time on the label. It will come of easily now. I always took the last few remnants with xxx steel wool. You should be able to pressure wash it off also, I just didn’t have that option.
Orange stripper and plastic bag to cover the work. Aircraft stripper is toxic but that does a good job. A media blasting is by far the easiest. BUT honestly if you are just going to color change...just DA sand and paint. No need to get all the paint down to bare metal.
At the rate you are going you won't be through by Christmas, too much talk, vacation, not near enough dedication and work. Now do what you do best, call for help to compensate for your procrastination and lack of desire. Have you ever heard the ole saying" due to your lack of planning, procrastination and hard work, does not necessitate emergency reaction on others behalf!" GOOD LUCK!!!!, Don't feel bad, others have dropped out too.
Yeah, I’ve seen that before where they didn’t have room for the radiator in front until you put it in back, but that was usually because the head gigantic motors in there
citrus strip is great, but not the spray version. Rough up the surface, goop the stuff on, cover it in plastic wrap and leave it for 24hrs and boom, 90% of paint will fall off
A suggestion for your filming struggles. Put a cam in time-lapse connected to a small power bank and it should run all day. (Depending on poerbank size) 6000/10000mah I know it still takes time to edit the videos but at least you have all the important bits recorded and can put together a build video after the deadline has passed.

Nitromorse paint stripper best youll ever get
Next time you guys decide to do a paint striping job i really recommend aviation paint stripper. Keep up the good show's. 😊
I know that brake fluid bubbles up the paint too. Try a little on a test piece of something and see. Making some good progress on the Mini. I hope it all works out for you. That colour of purple reminds me of lithograph ink.
The old-school aviation stripper is GONE. The new formula isn't worth the can it comes in.
covering it up in cling wrap helps keep it wet and works much better
@@tdwz1652 I guess. The old stuff started bubbling up almost instantly & probably would've eaten any kind of cling wrap you covered it with.

Love Janelle’s microphone for the weather update !!
This is just what I needed to see today. Keep it coming!
The purple makes me think of Janel so its perfect
This Project has become very impressive....Rudy has a great head for fabrication
Janelle could be a weather forecast lady...nice job.
Can hardly wait to see the Cooper run and do rock/ dirt things.
Great work Rudywith Zacks help.
Looking forward to next week's show. The King Cooper is really coming together.
Good luck moving forward Rudy!!! Can’t wait to hear a Trevor RUUUUDYYYY 😂😂😂!!!!!

80 grit on a 10mm da sander is the fastest way of removing paint from a vehicle.

I love the exhaust,it doesn't look stupid !
2:07 I think the aircraft paint remover is what you want to remove the paint.
Next thing you know, the exhaust is going to ahve a tractor flapper cap to it. Hope your mini comes together in the end.
Then they will have to cut a much larger hole in the hood.
@@billb412 True but would be interesting to see it. I dont think they are to worried about cutting holes in the sheet metal.

Bread winner, the holy grail, and king Cooper. Y'all are all awesome. Good luck.
The hole, in the hood for the exhaust should be opened up some more for motor movement. Awesome build guys and Janelle.

Robbie Layton uses this flapper wheel. Super quick works well

The car is looking good Rudy. You’ve got a good helper there and I’m really tickled to watch him work too.
It's faster to use a grinder with a paint stripping disc
I've used CitriStrip on paint before, but not on automotive paint. I know it does work better if you can keep it wet as long as possible by covering it with plastic. If you happen to need to use it on a future project.
I still think when you get this done. You should go out with Grind hard Plumbing Company and their off-road mini Cooper.
get that annoying dent removed from the front of the Bonnet...!
That purple shows up good on campus! Eddie
Stripping paint is also a weight saving!
Car looks good Rudy...gona be RAD ! ! !
Put some painters plastic directly over the areas that you apply the stripper. It hold the chemicals on the surface longer without evaporating.
The purple on the Driver side Fender looks amazing
