i planted a couple of these babies into some massive pots about 55 liters with some other plants and flowers after 1 year the tree was growing fast so i removed everything and centred them and a year later i had a ball of roots filling the full pot
I just bought a lemon cypress for cheap from an online nursery with no idea what the heck I was going to do with it. Im in zone5b.. Then i found this video and a few others and im inspired to try this. I have zero experience or materials to do so. This should go well ! lol
I have just learned that keeping branches at the very bottom of a tree, wiring them to go horizontally and as long as possible will make the very bottom of the trunk thicker. Which is very good. One can always cut off those branches later.
@@ThatBonsaiGuy afraid I cracked a branch when wiring it. Conifers are hard to work on but I’m learning as I go. Your video gave me inspiration to do this. Thanks!
I have been training one for the past 2 years now. Very tough to bend, they tend to spring back into shape if the wire is removed to early. Cant seem to get crazy bends on it, only curves. I think the trunk chop and grow method would be best suited for older trees.
Sadly this tree didnt make it. I kept it inside and I think that was the main reason - it dried out even though I always kept the soil from drying out completely 😪

oh now 4 years later they are in the ground and the size of my 6 foot fence
i was thinking of making them in ground bonsai
That's great!
How aromatic are they? I want a few in front of a window as the wind blows in.

Yes, I hope the lower branch on this tree will help to thicken the trunk!
Working on my own lemon cypress from a garden center. A really tough job! Yours turned out pretty good 👍
Thanks! How is yours coming along?

I think this tree was a little young to wire in my opinion. Did you break the branch at 21.56 which I heard it snap which is why you shortened it.
If I remember correctly it did break a bit but did not fully snap 😅
They are very brittle. I had a split truck I tried to wire ... split trunk was a good name. Haha!
Hello just wondering how this experiment turned out..
