  • “Labour’s mantra is that it has no plans to increase the taxes of working people…When politicians say they have no plans, it usually means they do, but they're just not telling us.”
Andrew Neil is joined by The Times’s policy editor Oliver Wright and economist Liam Halligan to dissect Labour’s manifesto.

I honestly think America needs a completely restructure of their political system. It is just not working. Trump and Biden being elected out of 300 million people to run the country is evidence for that too.

This is why the US should elect more progressive politicians, who know how to manage budgets and give us (yes, pur country's initials literally spell out that pronoun) much better tax credits in return for better public education and better public healthcare. but since these are nonexistent, my husband and I are being guided to finance our retirement and healthcare through a diversified investment portfolio

What Labour hasn’t admitted is that the home owners, landlords, motorists, all business owners, pensioners, and many others will be hit with tax rises. Just going about our daily lives car fuel taxes will rise, vehicle licensing will rise, insurance will be taxed, access to towns and cities will be taxed, ULEZ will be everywhere. Taxes on food and drink will rise. Everything will get more expensive so taxes are raised for Labour’s pledges.

Labour in Wales has managed to lose large companies from Wales, we have very little here in the way of large production areas. Wales has nothing here but labour still increased members of the Senydd from 60+ to just shy of 100, so more of our tax is going to pay each of these members in excess of £40000 a year, maybe pro rata, but labour are known for claiming extra and for things they have not done. £40 million wasted on researching the expansion of the M4 to make access to Wales easier. That was stopped as soon saw Drakeford got in for his 2nd term. Read up on the Caerphilly 6, giving themselves a payrise behind closed doors. Labour can’t be trusted.

As to confusion well that's merely an extension of what's been happening over the past coupe of years where Labour has been trying to be all things to all men. More rights for workers and business growth for example don't sit comfortably together and there are many similar examples of policy objectives which seem at variance with each other. History tells us in such cases you either upset one half or your voters by pursuing one of the objectives and not the other, or compromise on all of the objectives and upset all of your voters.

Building houses will new a disaster. In my area they have built 1000s of houses but not added any facilities so my local tip is always oversubscribed. There’s traffic problems all the time. Getting a gp appointment is impossible. Building houses without adding the infrastructure is a disaster and can’t be fixed after we throw Labour out again. They will finish this country. Labour will be a disaster.

The government would be wise to address the weath leaks from the uk economy that are associated with inward foreign investment. By definition foreign investors expect to take out far mor than they put in. Foreign shareholders are parasites on the uk economy, a classic example is the private monopoly water companies.

A revenue neutral revaluation would be good for poorer people, not so good for me, but it's the right thing to do.

I'm in a similar position. I have some faith that fewer poorer people will lead to things like less crime, better health (and so less stress on the NHS) and a slightly more chill "higher trust" society, so while it may well hit your and my bank balance, we will be truly better off.
I have no idea whether Labour can achieve that, but I'm certain the Tory's weren't even trying!

"A revenue neutral revaluation would be good for poorer people" No it won't,. You need to tackle wealthy inequality to prevent the deathslide that's going on. Tinkering around the edges is what the tories have been doing for 14 years.

So rich to listen to Tories complaining about future tax rises, it was fine for them to increase taxes 26 times for their utterly failed plans.
26 tax rises and they've still managed to destroy the country. Labours plans in the manifesto are much more cautious than the tories, whose plans are more pantomime than serious.
