Meaning have drastically changed in the last 20 - 30 years, especially since 1964. When he said , "one night stand" that meant one date, period. Our music was more innocent and wholesome without innuendo of things that were considered improper, especially when it came to how to treat a young lady. That's the way my parents taught my brothers, to honor, respect and treat women with value. Not today like , "how fast can I get into her pants". Frankly I'm thankful I lived in that era, raised by parents from The Greatest Generation. Blessings Sheray!
"Herman's Hermits" were part of the British Invasion from the early 60s. Lead singer is Peter Noone, no actual "Herman". This was their first released single in 1964.
Another great group from my youth. One of the pop bands who were part of the British Invasion in the 60's. They had a lot of hits such as "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter", "I’m Henry VIII, I Am”, "Can't You Hear My Heartbeat", "Listen People", "Leaning On A Lamp-post", "Dandy", "Sunshine Girl", "Something's Happening", "My Sentimental Friend", "Silhouettes", "Wonderful World", "Just A Little Bit Better", "A Must To Avoid", "No Milk Today", "There's A Kind Of Hush" "This Door Swings Both Ways" etc.
Yes, but he sings these songs in a lower register, now. I am not sure how many of the modern "Hermits" were the originals. And I think Peter was 16 when he started with the group. I was 13 and madly, madly in love with him.
Peter Noone is a very good singer. This and I could take or leave yr Loving are my favorites. Many good songs. Pete is still performing about 75 . I watched a recent video he still sounds good and looks good also
Peter No one was 16 years old when this song was recorded. The Hermits broke up in 1971 when he was 23, possibly 24 (he was born in November). A lot of youthful energy in that song.
Check out Herman’s Hermits rendition of “There’s A Kind of Hush” Also, check out Gerry and The Pacemaker song “Ferry Across the Mersey” The Dave Clark Five is another band from the same era with some songs worth a listen to.
Nobody in the group was actually named Herman. The lead singer was/is Peter Noone. If you think these guys look young, they were. The oldest guy was only 18 when this song hit the charts. Peter had barely turned 17. They were one of the more popular groups from the British Invasion in the mid 1960's.

Wow, Peter Noone (Herman) and the Hermits are still touring after 60 years Herman is 77, so he must've been 17 when this song came out.

One of many early imitators of the Fab Four, right down to the haircuts.
