Went to boarding school and most can take including myself and I’m sure he takes it like nothing having somewhat of a TH-cam status. But it’s ridiculously insensitive when you see more timid and nervous people who then get immediately shut down in friendship groups, social situations and general opinions. Despite most of these kids ain’t making these decisions for them with mainly parents sending them to school. It crushes people and have seen many people get into deep dark holes and sometimes death because they are scrutinised for a decision they didn’t make
It is kind of crazy how class can complete shape a person. I think I and many people I know would flourish in an environment like that, instead I went to an arse school in the West Midlands where everyone just smoked weed, got pregnant and were just proud chavs -
The condescension that you talk about isn't quite there. What is happening is that they're clearly voicing their(and I'm sure many other's) beliefs about the upper class. It's quite fine to be honest. Max shows that some of the beliefs aren't necessarily true.
He says he had to wear a pretty ridiculous outfit, but to be brutally honest the only difference between his uniform and mine (lower/middle class secondary school) Is the straw boater. Shirt, tie, smart trouser, blazer and smart shoes were the norm. A quick Google will reveal the Eton students look like far bigger dorks
Except on Sundays, when we looked like dorks too - except with straw hats instead of top hats. NOBODY ever called them "boaters", because they're not, which I find a bit weird here.
Idk, something seemed off in this interview. Like Max is just a normal guy who went to a posh school, but Jack and Stevie are acting like he's from another planet lol.
@@ca-ke9493i went to a private school. It is a diff planet. Not just the time you are there, your future, your ideas, your friends i’m pretty sure that all makes it a different planet
You should talk about school with somebody that did what I did, multiple international schools in different countries then back home to UK. The differences between them all was really weird but also some odd similarities between them.
As someone who was privately educated for my teens, it always amuses me to have people quiz me as if I went to school on another planet. Honestly, other than uniforms and the facilities, it was the same. Some aspects were more cushy, some aspects were more tribal and rough.
@@boarbot7829 If you had actually read my comment, you'll see I said "for my teens" - I was publicy educated for 7 years and privately for 6. I was only able to go when my mum got a job there which gave a 50% discount. When I was privately educated, I didn't get to go on holidays abroad bc we couldn't afford it. Secondly, not a single one of my uni friends were privately educated, so we used to talk about it and compare a lot. They're still my best friends 8 years later. Thirdly, I come from a working class family on both sides and both of my parents were the only people in their families to stay in school past 16, let alone go to college. I was never allowed to take my privileged education for granted, and all my friends in my hometown went to the local high school. Finally, what do you mean by "undeserved"? Did the 98% of kids who failed the entrance exam deserve to get in? Does someone with a nicer car than me not deserve it? Does the fact that I never had a phone bought for me in my life by my parents whilst all my public high school friends had iPhones mean they didn't deserve them? Having seen both sides of the coin, the difference between the two is partly facilities, but overwhelmingly is the character and attitude of the teachers. If you go to private school and you're dumb, they can't change that - what they can do is influencr your cognitive faculties and make you more critical and reasonable. Using those faculties afforded to me is what makes your comment so laughable: 1. You immediately dived into having a go at me didn't stop to read that I have been through both private and public education (i.e. I actually have a real perspective on both - do you?) 2. You immediately default to the Marxist-Wolffian position that having something better than others means it must be stolen somewhere in the chain of trade and thus is "undeserved". I am pretty frugal and am absolutely certain you have stuff in your posession that is much nicer than mine - so who gets to decide whether you deserve it? You? Unless you stole it, I think you deserve it. So if I go to a fee-paying school as a child of a plumber and a teacher, at what point does my parents dedicating their lives and sacrificing stuff like going on holiday simply got my education mean that I don't deserve it?
it is another planet for some people. the fact you and many other private schoolers are incapable of recognising this really shows the kind of bubble you grew up in. It's ok that you went to a private school, and it's not your fault you grew up in this bubble, but now you are out in the real world, you need to be able to at least acknowledge the privilege you had. Otherwise you embarrass yourself and it's frankly offensive to others who grew up in diabolical poverty, living hand to mouth. And yes, that does happen in this country, and is far more common than whatever you are imagining.
I went to a private school as a kid and I hated it. So even if I could have afforded to send my kid to one of those posh boarding schools, I never would have. As a parent, I find spending time with my child and sharing our memories as a family on a every day basis is more important than anything.
@@Heatwave9000 I can see how it protects girls from boys who might want to take advantage of them, particularly at a boarding school. Since it doesn't happen a lot the other way round, I don't really get the point of all boys schools.
@@islandbreeze2631 it’s not really about protecting girls, people had the mindset that we should teach girls and boys differently because of things like the way each was able to learn etc. Not sure if now it holds up though. (Went to an all boys primary/middle school)
It’s a good thing that at private school it is very structured and something always occupies you as it means you don’t get home sick or in trouble as much as you would.
Ended up in boarding school as my dad was in the forces... He was only a Sargent, but no senior school where we were posted..... Only got home 3 times a year.... Once a month sounds like heaven.
I lived in Harrow for 2 years and honestly it’s so funny how DIFFERENT the hill is. I lived in South Harrow for a year and it’s literally the bottom on the hill and ☠️☠️☠️ it’s a literal shit hole. There was something funny about seeing the boys walk around in their hats!
When I was a teen I still needed my parents more than ones a month. I didn't talk to them about everything but just the feeling of safety that I got from living with them. And I needed to have my own room and some privacy and a lot of time alone in peace. I liked to spend a lot of time with friends after school but sometimes I just wanted to be alone and not getting those monets alone woud have broke me. If I woud have been send to a boarding school I woud have gone to drugs or killed my self or and up in mental hospital. Not every kid can handle something like boarding school. Some never recover. Is it really worth it? I had a happy childhood and grow up the be a stable working person with a good life. If I woud have been send to boarding school I woud be dead by now. Kids who enjoy that are the polar opposite of kids like I was. For me it woud have been hell on earth. How meny boarding school kids are planning to kill themselves now? Kids who woud be happy and woud have good grades if they coud live with their family in safety and comfort 😢
I still can’t get over how different Harrow on the hill and Harrow town centre are, and don’t even get me started on Wealdstone (I remember someone calling Wealdstone Harrow’s unwanted little sibling).
I went to Army Apprentice College Arborfield in 1975. I started fencing because I wasn't good enough at boxing. No local state schools fenced so all our matches were against schools like Harrow and Wellington. After only 6 months coaching by a retired RAF officer I managed to beat an England schoolboy international from Harrow (admittedly I was a year older). Army college was fantastic and a world away from my bog standard state comp.

I went to St. Dominic's sixth form college which was right next to harrow school. one of the bus stops used to be outside one of the boarding houses. when it was end of college day and the bus stop filled up with college students, the Harrow boys looked threatened like we gonna rob or attack them lol. Probably because we were mostly ordinary working class peeps and we knew they were rich and posh if there family could afford to send them to an expensive private boarding school. I also remember seeing them having to do this nod acknowledgement thing with their straw hats whenever a teacher passed them whilst walking to their classes

This tells you a lot about British culture, going to Harrow or Eton is basically a free pass to any job you would ever want in the UK, and everyone, but the person who went there hasn't heard of them.
@@iflankzttv2981 you say '100%' but it sounds like you HAVE heard of these schools, as I also have (didn't go to either or any 'public' or boarding school). Since the OP is claiming nobody other than those who went there have heard of them, you're not actually fully agreeing with them.
Kind of depends on the job, there’s a move away from hiring exclusively from top schools. These people usually have connections which get them advantages, but I know a lot of companies would rather take a successful state school kid over a public school one. Ultimately though uni is definitely more important, and experience is even more vital. Posh people tend to have connections to get internships and things though so it’s hard to separate if it’s the school or the advantages.

When I was at school, we used to line up four or five of his sort, make 'em bend over, and use 'em as a toast rack. PITT: It doesn't surprise me, sir, I know your sort. Once, it was I who stood in the big, cold schoolroom, a hot crumpet burning my cheeks with shame. Did you go to private school?
Yeah, private sch is an experience but once you're out of school its really up to the individual to make the most of the opportunities.
I really found this interesting for some reason. It’s cool to hear about someone growing up in a totally different way
As someone who was privately educated for my teens, it always amuses me to have people quiz me as if I went to school on another planet.
Honestly, other than uniforms and the facilities, it was the same.
Some aspects were more cushy, some aspects were more tribal and rough.
How do you know it was the same? You came out of that school with unfair, undeserved advantages that 90 percent of people in the country are denied.
Using those faculties afforded to me is what makes your comment so laughable:
1. You immediately dived into having a go at me didn't stop to read that I have been through both private and public education (i.e. I actually have a real perspective on both - do you?)
So if I go to a fee-paying school as a child of a plumber and a teacher, at what point does my parents dedicating their lives and sacrificing stuff like going on holiday simply got my education mean that I don't deserve it?
yeah it costs £50k a year so i’d be quizzing you
@@g1carino 16k at mine but 8k bc my mum got a job there to get the discount
it is another planet for some people. the fact you and many other private schoolers are incapable of recognising this really shows the kind of bubble you grew up in.
