I’ve watched this half a dozen times. And the skew looks so easy to use. But I know it’s your skill and experience that makes it look that way. Amazing.
I really like the efficiency of your turning. Watching you is like watching a textbook unfold...or one of those films we used to have at school 'For Schools'. Remember? The economy of movement really helps in learning...no faffing around. Excellent. Thanks for posting. I know you urge people not to try your techniques, but you've made me a more confident and better turner by doing just that...trying them out, carefully. All the best.
A great channel. With not even got to the stage of staring in wood turning this has been a real insight in how a professional works. What makes things better is real time, no chuck and on a lot of the videos soft woods. Thanks again to you and Mike who gave you a mention.
I have learned a bit just watching you, great work! I haven't seen that precise work with a skew chisel. It seems I have a lot to learn. I tend to make heavier gavels, from exotic woods, but I think I can incorporate some of your techniques. Thank you!
Hey Steve, great tool control and a thoroughly enjoyable video. Good skills buddy, i'm going to try this when i get home, greetings from the Middle East.
This was a very well done project. You've got quite the talent there. I think I'll have to attempt to do this project soon. I have a friend who is running for county judge.
A stunning display of skill and craftsmanship Steve. Your tool control is a joy to behold, a quality that most of us can only aspire to. An excellent video. May I ask whereabouts you live. Take care Mike
I have a cheap craftsman skew that is really hard to get an edge on, therefore will not cut, Is there a company in the USA that sells the Ashley Ailes skew?
Come on man when you going to learn how to use a skew, I could have done that in about a WEEK and 6 pieces of wood 435 kick backs, and one piece of metal in my nose lol. Great work Very nice gavel, I just made one with osage orange took me a whole lot longer.
Excellent great job, many people say, the tool makes perfect, but you fucked up that rule. You do wonders with a couple of tools, congratulations master
I learned a lot of what I know from The New Yankee workshop. As good as Norm is, you're a step above.
Thank you

Thank you for you kind words
I am impressed with your skill and your sharpening, your tools seem polished beyond a grinding wheel, do you hone them on a stone?
Thank you, no my tools are not honed straight off a 180 grit CBN wheel. A light touch is the key.
You are so skillful!
Thank you
la façon dont tu manie la plane est un vrai plaisir pour les yeux.

How did you deal with the wood screw hole in the bottle
What do you use as a gauging tool to hit the OD on the tenon? Is that just some flat stock you grind a notch in? Love watching you work thanks!!
Thank you and you are correct it’s just a groove cut in a piece of metal.
i know its obvious but i still feel the need to say that ur a master at what you do
No I don’t call myself a master, I feel there are too many aspects to woodturning for anyone to call themselves a master
Nice mallet. I have a lot to learn still.
Thank you, we all never stop learning

+Ralph Snellen Thanks for taking time comment
what wood and tools should I use for this project
The tools are shown in the video and the wood is best suited if a hard dense wood.
Come on man when you going to learn how to use a skew, I could have done that in about a WEEK and 6 pieces of wood 435 kick backs, and one piece of metal in my nose lol.
Great work Very nice gavel, I just made one with osage orange took me a whole lot longer.
Lol! It doesn’t matter how long it takes it’s all about the final result.
Satisfying Dude, probably take me half a day to make :( TFS, G :)
Thank you, it doesn’t matter how long it takes but the end result is the most important
