Seeing this as a Sri Lankan, I think we are more open compared to Indians In rural areas. It totally should start with the family to educate children. Parents may try to stop having relationships. as usual haha South Asian parents right? But they value your privacy here and they don't interfere with your privacy after adolescence. It's up to you to be smart to decide what to do or not to do. Even for girls, they check where you go and why you're late and all. From what I've seen I think the majority of parents don't even come inside a room before calling or knocking. Of course, there are super strict parents as well.
And back in my school days, the hospitals, NGOs, and Police came to school for these awareness programs. They talk about consent and education aspects and what to avoid only since it's school level, They do not say how to be protected much. They feel that students will take it more casually than the culture. They always say how to avoid these situation till you're over 16 at least. But, It's a sin and stuff like that, I've never heard anyone say it like that. They just say just wait till you get older and you'll understand more.

My first time experience about sex is when I asked my mother what is Rape? She gave me information about sex as Rape, but as I got older I realised this misconception about what consent is, my mother can't differentiate rape and sex, there is no talk in India about content, this country won't even consider marital rape, the can lead to sexual violence, sex education is really important for teens.

A few years ago when I had just entered teenage, while driving, my dad asked me out of the blue, "Beta, does school teach you about sex?" Until we reached home, I was calculating the risks in answering "yes", and there was dead silence. It initially felt weird when he asked such questions, because in my social circle, everyone whose dad found out that their son is watching sexual stuff, was beaten the hell out of in the morning of the following day. So, my friends were the first people who I talked with about sex. I didn’t explicitly talk about sex with my father, until an incident occured. The thing is, I sometimes make sensual portraits (it is my idiosyncrasy). And, after about a week, I either shred them and dump them in the dustbin or burn them.
I once saw my dad going through my drawings one day, and he stopped at one nude portrait I had drawn, fresh, no fixative.
He didn't look around, so he didn't know I was looking.
I thought he would be mad, but he SMILED.
He still doesn't know that I have seen his reaction, but since then, we have been talking about things I had never imagined we would have talked about a few years ago.
And although many people would tell me "you have a cool dad", I think it is time we normalise having "cool dads" (and even becoming one) and let go of the orthodox way of child rearing.

Growing up in a conservative family in Mumbai, I always felt uncomfortable talking about relationships and intimacy. When I moved to Delhi for university at 21, everything changed. Suddenly, I was surrounded by people from all over India who spoke openly about sex and relationships. At first, I was shocked, but as I made friends and attended eye-opening sociology classes, I began to see things differently. My roommate from Kerala and classmate from Assam shared their perspectives, helping me realize that sex wasn't the taboo subject I'd always thought it was. Slowly, I started to let go of the shame and guilt I'd carried for years. Through late-night discussions in the hostel and frank conversations in campus chai shops, I came to understand that consensual, safe sex between adults was just another part of life - not something to be ashamed of or obsessed over. By the end of my first year, I felt more comfortable with myself and my desires, recognizing that sex was a normal and healthy part of adult life when approached with respect and responsibility. This new understanding helped me feel more at ease in my own skin and in my interactions with others, free from the burden of unnecessary guilt. Thank you for posting a video about it, made things even clearer

I feel sometimes it becomes our duty to discuss sex education with our parents. It shouldn’t be like “Okay today we will talk about sex” , but gradually easing them to understand today’s reality. Growing up in a conservative Indian household, sex was never discussed-it was an unspoken taboo. My first encounter was in a biology class, where our teacher awkwardly rushed through the chapter on reproduction, avoiding eye contact as the room filled with nervous giggles. At home, things were even stricter. I once mentioned a romantic scene from a TV show during dinner, hoping to spark a casual conversation. My mother immediately turned off the TV, and my father quickly changed the subject, making it clear that this topic was off-limits.
As a teenager, this silence led to confusion and a sense of guilt whenever I sought information. Turning to the internet felt like a secret rebellion. Attempts to discuss relationships with older cousins were dismissed with “We don’t talk about these things.” The taboo around sex created a cycle of misinformation and shame, leaving me to navigate a complex topic without guidance or open conversation.

Later on as i grew up during my early teen yrs and watched on new channel's about cases related to r*pe it triggered me that it happened to me.
It was really devastating to know what had happened to me, i had no proofs ps ofc i couldn't tell about it to my parents.
So i am leaving my life with my traumatic past, trying to avoid thinking abt them....

It's morning, 8:11 am, on 2nd September. I just finished watching your video, and I'm really grateful for it. I've been struggling with breaking the habit of watching inappropriate content, and your video helped shed some light on the topic.I went through a difficult experience in my childhood that left a deep impact on me. There was someone who took advantage of my innocence when I was in the 3rd grade, and it led to a lot of pain and confusion for me. It was a very dark time in my life, and I didn’t know how to handle it or talk to anyone about it. Over time, this experience negatively influenced my behavior, and I ended up hurting others in a way I deeply regret. It’s been a long and painful journey, but as I grew older, made good friends, and found a positive environment, I started to change. The urge to continue harmful habits is still something I struggle with, but I’m committed to improving myself. For the past two months, I’ve been going to the gym regularly, and I’ve cut down on my harmful behaviors significantly.Your video was another push in the right direction, and I’m determined to keep making progress. Thank you for helping me see things more clearly.

This is an issue prevalent across all of South Asia and not just India. Sure India has the largest population by far in the region, but the likes of Pakistan and Bangladesh are still fairly large in terms of population. The fact that child abuse, marital rape, sexual assault etc are brushed under the carpet is insane. These things ruins the lives of so many people and they lead to generational cycles of abuse and trauma. Coupled with the weird af obsession with 'izzat' (which always becomes the responsibility of a woman for NO apparent reason) is what still keeps us from realizing just how bad we are as a society. I hope this changes, but I doubt it will.

the first time i leaned about it was well in school, but the more i though, the more i realized that yes i should learn about this because at the time and still now, i want to have kids in future and i thought if something is as important to have kids, i should know about it well, so i learned it online and quickly figured out how absolutely taboo it is.
learning about it also made me understand why a cousin brother of mine made me uncomfortable when i was younger aka 8-9, yeah he did take advantage of me and did things like touching, singing romantic songs and stuff, it didn't go far- at least from my memory, but learning about that also made me aware about what good and bad touch is- AT 13!

One day, one of my friends showed me the reproduction chapter in our science book and my first reaction was "get this away from my sight". He was sitting beside me and asked "why are you so uncomfortable?" and I replied "sex is bad..". The rest of the day he explained me why sex is not bad, and actually an important natural process. Because of him, I became more open to this topic. I started to read book about all this and now I can finally say, sex is not a taboo.

Upon hearing my answer, most of them were in shock and passed comments like, "Tera koi teen, imaan nahi hai kya bro?". I made them understand that a person's body count does not define his or her character because sex is merely a physical activity. But the reality is, Even after being kind and good to them always, Having my parents feel proud of me and my achievements, I am still judged by my body count but I genuinely do not care about the people who say that I was wrong. It is my body, my choice.

"Yes, I understand it's important to teach sex education, but the government should find a way to teach the dos and don'ts or debunk myths. However, it should be promoted in a way that doesn't encourage teenagers to start engaging in more sexual activity. As you may know, what's happening in America and Europe is that 10 to 50 percent (and this is only pregnancies, not the percentage of sexual activity) is increasing."

I don't seem to understand why it is important to study sex. We are facing worst of the generations, earthlings so far has evolved from stone age till today, earth has faced wonderful individuals like shakespear, APJ, Mozart, Udham Singh, Jabir Bin Hayeeyan, Platoon and lists go on. But since we started LIVE-IN RELATION culture we need to learn about sex because nobody wants a unwanted baby.

Well imo, it's good that sex is consider a taboo topic. Or it would feel weird, like imagine a world where talking about sex is normal. Maybe it would educate people about sex, but i don't think sex should be normalize. There are friends for who can explain what sex is.
