Many shampoos do a similar thing of making cuticles rougher. I never liked the sisterlock products mainly because the bottle already felt watered down and it didn't have any sud action plus I didn't feel like it cleaned my scalp as well. My hair seemed to lock faster when I just used a clarifying shampoo but for some reason it made my scalp really greasy. I was surprised how greasy it kept getting. Like how white peoples hair got greasy lol. Also baking soda is a good way to roughen up the cuticles as well. I think the main think anyone with sister locks should focus on is the ph level of the shampoo they're using and how moisturizing it is. The ph level tends to determine how it will treat the hair cuticles. The dryer your hair is the more likely it will lock as well. Doesnt mean you have to suck it till it becomes a desert but just avoid moisturizing shampoos. Any shampoo should do. The sisterlock shampoo is just for more profit in my opinion besides that as a product their are plenty of shampoos that do a better job of encouraging your hair to lock.
Great points! I personally don’t like the shipping cost and the wait time. SL should really consider teaming up with amazon to sell their products. The longer my SL get, the more I’m running through product. I find myself using less and less of the SL products.
I did use the SL shampoo in the beginning. My hair never felt like it was clean and my scalp was always so dry. I switched to a clarifying shampoo and my hair started locking faster and I had no more scalp issues.
Oohh.... I'm still using SL shampoo (been a year and a half) and I feel this way. Will certainly be trying suave, heard so many good things about it and multiple places too. Thx for this content and comment
I liked the SL dandruff shampoo for a while during the winter months. It costs like a dollar more than the others. But I dilute all my shampoos in the little squirt bottle that they mail you for free when you make a purchase.
I finally did my first wash with the starter shampoo!! I didn’t mind it. It was definitely more watery then I thought but I still diluted it down quite a bit. Didn’t mind the lack of suds. It lathered enough for me. My only complaint was residue. I saw white little flakes, not dandruff, but dry shampoo coming down when it was dried. I had to give my hair a good rustle to get it all out. Next time I’ll try twist/band and not braid/band which I think didn’t rinse out as cleanly. My hair didn’t feel dry at all - but anything feels good after 3wks of unwashed hair.
I'm almost 13 months in. I tried the starter shampoo once, but my scalp itched like crazy so I went back to clay and Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle. But now I use DIY soap nut shampoo with tea tree tingle and it looks and feels like I gained a lot more budding. This will be my cleansing combo at least until I'm fully locd.
Thank you for the helpful, short videos. I'm three and half months into my sisterlock journey and I use the SL green tea shampoo. To your point, shipping was not made easy, but I do like the product. It's very clarifying and smells great. I will look into the other products once my locs mature.
I’m almost 8 months into my sisterlocs journey. I still use the sisterlock shampoo putting half shampoo/half distilled water in a spray bottle. That’s the only way I get mad mad lathers. I haven’t had any issues however I have my suave clarifying shampoo on stand by. Good video
@@elfinmordant3313 thank you for replying yes I am totally lost I do use clarifying shampoo but my hair is extremely dry I can put oils and it and it just sucks it up. I was doing some research and not sure but I need protein in my hair if you have any information about that please advise thank you in advance
@@poochiealwaysblessed5503 If your hair is fully locked. Just use a moisturizing shampoo! Here is what I recommend. Wash your hair only once a week and always first use w clarifying shampoo, follow up with a very moisturizing shampoo and then just do a hot oil treatement or do a deep conditioning treatement. If ur hair is very dry. Focus on moisture and less in protein. I reccomend fractionated coconut oil, and have fun if u would like and do a herb soak with sage and add some essential oils. If ur hair is that dry. I really do reccomend finding a deep comditioner without silicons and protein . or find a diy conditioner for your hair and let it soak in for a good while. Don't use regular conditioner! The main point of that isnt to moisturize your hair but layer a thin film of plastic to make it tangle less and cover up ur damage. Not fix it
@@poochiealwaysblessed5503 Don't be shy about moisture. Oils are good. Rose water is very good at well! Use rosewater and then follow up with fractionated coconut water to moisturize ur hair. Or you can buy any moisturizing product or oil as long as you know! Whats on the ingrediants and whats bad and good. Also the reason I say fractionated is because virgin will do the job but not as well as fractionated because they engineered it to have a smaller molecular level in order to to soak into ur hair much more faster an easier. For me i like to have fun with my oils and soak it in herbs and add essential oils do give it a boost. But I know ur confused. Just dont go in the bandwagon of conditioner. Conditioner isn't made to moisturize hair. Its made to deposite silicon on your hair and make it tsngle less and feel healthier when really its not. Just a mask. Do you have any contact information? Maybe I can help you with anything else.
donna Boo I would contact the consultant that did your hair. The point of sister locs is so you don't have to use multiple products. Good luck.esp lots of oils is a no no..
I swear everytime I see your videos you remind me of my big cousin cause you look just like her. Like when I see you I'm always like "She look just like so and so" lol I don't say so and so i just don't want to expose her name out like that lol

Nice video! Especially for me since I’m a newbie!

Loc’dNFreed ! I hated he lack of suds...and you’re right there was a bit of residue back in the day when I used it
I have the same issues with the flaky scalp after washing with sisterloc shampoo. 10 months in!

I will begin my sister lock journey in 2 weeks. Can I color my hair a week before ?
I was also advised to use black soap shampoo ONLY.
Sisterlock clarifying shampoo didn't like my sisterlocks or scalp. You can use any type of clarifying shampoo as long as its clear
Hello, did you use any specific vitamins for your hair journey? Thanks
Very helpful 👍🏽
Good Morning,
I have a question my SisterLocks are high porosity my question is what products do I use? Please advise. Thank you in advance
If you're not fully locked yet. Just use any regular clarifying shampoo. It should do the job.
