The Main Train Station, or Hauptbahnhof, of Munich, and most major train stations in Germany may seem overwhelming when you first arrive to them but if you know what to look out for, they really aren't. In this video I explain, step by step, the different parts of the station and how to find your train. I also give you a few tips that will hopefully make your travel a little easier. Hope it helps!

Man! Completely different than in early 80's when I used to get train to nuremberg few times a month. Station looks like airport now and lot of automation in already advanced city in europe . No more old time platform which were easy to find, thanks for bringing the memories back

Munchen HBF is large and busy but very simple to use and English is used extensively throughout the station and Munchen is out of this World. Please visit and you won’t be disappointed.

Once again a great video. I found it useful to learn words like Ausgang |Exit)and Eingang(Entrance) just small words but it helps in some small way.

I love the information you provide. Quick question. What street is the main entrance on? We are staying nearby and have a 6:30 am train to catch.
There are several entrances. The main one is on Bahnhof Platz. I stayed at a hotel on Bayerstrasse and there is an entrance there too. Take a look at streetview on Google Maps!!
How do you know about your reserved coach? For instance mine says coach 22, 2nd class but where am I supposed to stand on the platform to make sure I’m in front of the right coach when it stops?

is it better to buy the ticket at the station or online. lots of online places seem to be selling tickets, not sure which ones are best
For long-distance trips I always buy online (www.bahn.de). If you book with time, you can find some good deals. These long distance trips can be expensive, so you want to save as much as possible. Getting roundtrip is cheaper than one ways. Getting fixed date and time is cheaper than getting flexible times and dates. It is cheaper because if you miss your train, you lose the money. You cannot change the date or time. That is why you pay more for flexible tickets. For regional trips, that are usually short, I get my ticket at the machines, since these trips are much cheaper, and the savings would be small. Hope this helps. xxx
