- In House of the Dragon, we have been introduced to Aegon Targaryen, the son of King Viserys and Queen Alicent. He takes his name from Aegon the Conqueror, who lived a century before his birth. In addition to these two, there are TEN other Aegon Targaryens mentioned in the Game of Thrones and ASOIAF lore. Perhaps we'll even see a second one in HotD...

After Dance of the Dragons, they should make a series about the Blackfyre rebellions. It's such an interesting story with Aegon IV's bastards and it has so many fan theories that play directly into ASOIAF. And since GRRM is probably never finishing those books, they might as well confirm or deny those theories through another TV series.

I agree with you, Blackfyre Rebellion arc have very interesting characters. A fat horny king, a dashing bastard prince, a dragon knight, an honorable prince, beautiful girls, three eyed raven, and many more
But I think, it have less content as compared to HOTD, because Blackfyre Rebellion is mentioned only in World of Ice and Fire, while HOTD plot have Fire and Blood as well as WOTAF
Well, the TV show is not called "Dance of the Dragon" but "House of the Dragon". If the show goes down well with viewers - and it obviously does - I can well imagine HBO continuing to tell the story of House Targaryen chronologically - through Blackfyre Rebellion, Aegon V etc. to Robert's Rebellion. They could work with time jumps and cover smaller things (e.g. Ashford Tournament/Conquest of Dorne/Arthur Dayne) in a few episodes.

Aegon IV is the best Aegon. He is, without a doubt, the most massively BASED man to ever sit the Iron Throne. An unrepentant scumbag, Aegon claims to have screwed over NINE HUNDRED women, and was father to tons of bastards, all of whom he legitimized on his deathbed as his final EPIC TROLL of his son Daeron. A meme lord extraordinaire, Aegon laid the foundations for five Blackfyre rebellions by suggesting that Daeron wasn’t his son, and giving the legendary sword Blackfyre to his most prominent bastard Daemon. Aegon went out with a BANG, dying overfed and oversexed, and screwing over the entire realm with his final decree.

I think it's more likely that Jon Snow is really called Viserys. As it appears to be the male variation of Visenya, just as Jaehaerys is the male variation of Jaehaera.
thats silly he already has a uncle named Viserys. It's more likely he is named either Aemon after Measter Aemon or Jeaheryes after his great grandfather and the Conciliator.
@@ayiza8511 My reasoning is that Rhaegar was naming his children after Aegon the Conquerer and his sister-wives Rhaenys and Visenya. When Aegon is born in the books, Rhaegar says there must be 3 - due to the 3 heads of the dragon on the Targaryen sigil. Given Rhaegar had named his first 2 children Rhaenys and Aegon, it seems likely that Rhaegar had intended for the child who we know as Jon Snow to be named Viserys, as it is the male version of the name Visenya. The fact Jon's uncle was called Viserys is irrelevent, as Targaryens tend to recycle names. For example, Viserys was named after Viserys I (Rhaenyra's father), Daenerys named her unborn child Rhaego - after Drago and Rhaegar, and named her dragons Rhaegal, Viserion and Drogon - again in homage to Viserys, Rhaegar and Drogo. Daenerys herself is named after Daenerys the dreamer, who foresaw the doom of Valyria, which spurred the family to move to dragonstone.

I feel like if given the proper time, Lyanna would have named him as Aemon, the chivalrous Dragonknight. Ooor GRRM hid it all along because there is a passage on Jon's PoV in GOT where he idolizes Daeron the Young Dragon, so it is a possible that he might have been named as Daeron.
@@ayiza8511 Rhaenyra and Daemon named their first son together Aegon even though her living half brother was already named Aegon. Aegon and his mother probably took this as a slight. Still worked out somehow and people just called one Aegon the Elder and the other Aegon the Younger.
Therefore it’s really not that crazy for Jon’s real name to be Viserys. Makes more sense to have the same name of a relative one generation apart rather than sharing the same name with his half brother from Elia Martel’s and Rhaegar Targaryen’s marriage. If Rhaegar was trying to create a Visenya-Aegon-Rhaenys triple threat reborn, it’s likely he was expecting a girl from Lyanna and planned on naming her Visenya. Unfortunately since it turned out to be a boy he would have been Viserys. Too bad the showrunners were too brain dead and not as versed in the lore as expected to understand this plot hole and just went ahead naming him the most popular male Targaryen name.

I always thought it would be cool if Jon’s real name was actually Arthur Targaryen, as Rhaegar could have named him after his best friend Ser Arthur Dayne. And if so, they could have ended Season 7 with the cliffhanger, “His name is Arthur Targaryen. He is the true ruler, King Arthur.”
Funny enough, George R.R. Martin actually loves the story of King Arthur while growing up.
The aegon I want to see in full is the aegon of Jon snow and how he reconnects to find drogon and return as king of the now 6 kingdoms.
I'd absolutely love that.
People tend to think that Drogon was the last dragon alive, but we never know what happened to Silverwing and that dragon was a she. It's easy to imagine she layed eggs, and it's canonically confirmed that Silverwing spent time beyond the Wall with her pair Vermithor and their riders. It's not hard to imagine Jon uncovering some old dragon eggs that Silverwing left there
I know this is not that relevant to your comment but why did the North split off if the last male lord of Winterfell is the King? Wouldn’t you want to unite with your brother? Just now thought about that, maybe it’s nothing or maybe it is another reason season 8 is hated but your comment got me thinking about that

Always found it weird how Jon was named Aegon, Considering his older brother already had the name. It would’ve made more sense for him to be called Aemond, Or Baelor, Or Dhaeron (that last one being pretty funny because Dhaeron II’s reign was started by a question of his Bastardy, And it’s the topic Jon and Aemon discuss when he first learns Aemon is a Targaryen)
It will be because of the significance that of number 7. If Young Gryff gets crowned as Aegon VI before being killed/defeated, that would make Jon's regnal name Aegon VII. Book-ending the Targaryen dynasty with Aegon I at its beginning and Aegon VII at its end would be a very GRRM thing to do.
Most def Aegon the conquerer is my favorite, i really hope HBO will do a series about the conquest.
I think the Conquest would make for a nice feature film, as a precursor to a Sons of the Dragon series about Maegor and Aenys and then Jaehaerys.

I think Aegon V was the most tragic. His heart was most definitely in the right. Much of the events of Summerhal is still shrouded in mystery. But I'm willing to bet he was willing to pay a terrible price to revive the Dragons but was thwarted by Ser Duncan. For now let's trust time to reveal things....

I very much enjoyed and appreciated this video, which is thoughtful and not as opportunistic as some sites, which are just big-name labels getting someone to generate a voice reading a script without knowing the first thing about content published! One proclaiming to outline the succession from HOTD to Daenerys actually had Jon Snow as the Aegon born to Elia Martel and even made a "correction" IN THE SCRIPT of the video noting that's the way it was in the books even though the show made Lyana Stark Jon Snow's mother! (Doh! head slap/wah wah waaaah note of failure combo time, right?!?) Sigh.
That said, all the James, Edwards, Georges, Williams, Ivans, Louis, and Henrys trying my nerves and patience is definitely on the long list of reasons I'm a MODERN American military and presidential historian and political scientist with a specialty in international relations!!!! Of course, I'll admit my military historian perspective means that as far as the big names of truly powerful WARRIOR KINGS go, there isn't much any of the rest can say past Henry V of England AND (Fruck Yeah I Took) France, anyway! That's the ONE Henry I can discuss both enthusiastically and endlessly when I have to pull something from my "Bloody Europe" conference-chat wheelhouse (especially if it means I can claim a seat with a regal faction in the medieval tables rather than having to deal with the neverending stories of the this-numbered coalition and the that-numbered coalition and refighting every inch of the Battle of Waterloo--AGAIN)!!! Yet in the medieval period, I've always preferred the early Plantagenets, when the Anarchy raged and "SHE Wolves" were worthy of that name, however insultingly it was tossed at the time! Matilda, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Isabella--those ladies knew how to get down, and although I'm a little disappointed in how that has been deconstructed that specifically takes away some of their agency and impact from the REAL history, I MOSTLY like the show enough I'm sticking!
If anyone was truly paying attention to Joffrey’s scenes I’m GOT, he already gave away the ending to HOTD. He told us/margarey how the war ended when he was giving her a tour of the Red Keep.
I'll give them props if they can run the show long enough to see the series finale feature the births of Jon and Dany.
I hold onto the hope because the first thing you see/read in HOTD is a bit about being set 200 years before Dany. With a 20+year time jump in the first season alone we could see more history than we think in the series is going to show.

The king's (aegon 3) hate for dragons killed them off, as they got smaller n smaller in his time, and thereafter the next king's had other plans and then visery's injects different blood into the dragon's blood line and so it remained until daenery's to whom the dragons hatched making her the true blood as those from bfre aegon 1 to aegon 3

Rhaegal dies in the show, so maybe Jon could bond with Drogon. There’s no precedent for a rider having two different dragons, though. But I’m not sure if HBO will care about that, or maybe GRRM will confirm that a rider can tame a new dragon after the original dies. The thing is, dragons almost always outlive their riders so we’ve never gotten the chance to see if a rider can tame another dragon. Viserys I is the only one I can think of whose dragon dies, and he seems like he has personal reasons for not taking a new dragon. Maybe he could have.
Personally, I thought if Jon Snow actually was the second son of Rheagar Targaryen, he should have been named Aemon. I'm still hoping the books do something different with him than Aegon Targeryan.

The Mad King’s name was Aerys, not Aegon. He was King Aerys the Second, who was the father of Rhaegar and grandfather of Rhaegar’s son Aegon.

Yep, you are correct. And the prophecy isn’t mentioned in the books, so we don’t know how it’s transmitted exactly. My guess is that it’s lost after the war, and then rediscovered slowly until we get to Rhaegar. But maybe Rhaenyra did tell Aegon III.
I got confused a little coz I thought Aegon III married his aunt. Kinda reminiscent of Jon and Dany. I haven't read the books so it gets confusing sometimes but thanks for the insight 🙇🏼♀️
@@zane_727 Aegon III married the daughter of Aegon II, who his second cousin once removed (he and Aegon II were first cousins via Rheanyra).
Via his father Daemon however , he is also her uncle as Daemon is her grand-uncle.
