it's still a bit violent nowdays. i remember when i was in high school, a classmate was the son of someone who worked with emeralds (esmeraldero, in spanish), and his father was murdered right in front of the school. They were leaving for asylum in panamá that exact afternoon.

I recommend colored stones over diamonds. Its more pre 1940s traditional. Birthstone engagements are very cpl cute & meaningful. For what you pay for mod size, mid grade diamond you can get a really nice emerald, Tanzanite, sapphire etc. of cpl cts. It will retain value. No one wants a diamond back.( I don't, unless its large VERY good qlty. Sorry pawn shops 4 drs down) Take grandpops 4 ct emerald to jeweler watch us froth. Lol.
Tanzanite WILL be mined out in 30 yrs. 2 mines are closed. Like Russian Alexandrite (essentially)mined out, prices will skyrocket. My personal fav Padparadscha sapphire. Pink of lotus & glints of orange like sunrise of Bengali bay.
      Good luck.. happy hunting 💗

@@roberttyrrell2250 exactly. I’m a corporate jeweler and I see diamonds all day. 🥱 so boring. But when I see a beautiful natural emerald or sapphire or Ruby 😍 I’m mesmerized. Natural opal and tanzanite as well, unfortunately haven’t seen alexandrite in my work yet.

Great story of a spooky helicopter ride. The beauty of the Emerald gem-stones. No wonder there is such security. If they relax their security, another country would come in, do away with all arrangements that have been made to miners and their families and blast the mountains down, to get at the rare gems within. Thank heavens they keep that level of security. The scenery was vivid and stunningly beautiful too.Thank-you

A little piece of advice: rooting for mass murderers isn't cool.
You can love the gems, just don't sound so excited about how criminals got them into their hands. Doesn't matter if those pillagers were white or not, but it looks specially bad when cheer for them and you're white too.

1:36 no it would have not. This is the time period los españoles killed and rapped. Enslaved the the natives and killed them if they dared practice their religion. Children were ripped from their mothers and forced to fallow the catholic religion. I could go on but I’m sure u get the point.

The fact that this channel sees these comments on how tone deaf this video was, yet only like the one who support them shows how ignorant they are. While I love gemstones, I will be unfollowing this channel due to their obvious lack of care for people's concerns, in addition to glorifying the genocide of Native Americans. Emerald is just perking my interests. I have one little piece. It is supposed to be not oiled, not poly filled, no glass, un-heated and un-treated I'm any way . For all material...I am sceptical...we shall see soon. Sorry to blab .I love gemstones so much.

Mod to heavy Oiled emeralds will need to be re treated over time. Its poss. Finding someone to do so, can be a task. Fine jewelers & brokers have contacts.
Using epoxy silicate stabilizers like Opticon does deteriorate & discolor over time is not re treatable. It does make gemstones brittle. Care in mounting should be taken. Too tight prong could chip it. But if you're using a stabilizer like that? Its already poor quality hard to cut, far less expensive.
There are very nice chromium emeralds coming out of Peshwari, Panjshir, Afghanistan bright green. Unfortunately they are still not allowed to have explosives. Making their own, Using leftover un exploded ordinance from the war. They end up destroying many of the crystals.
For Purist, Muzo is the only true emerald.
