actually idul fitri in english is eid mubarak
.
this day is celebration after fasting 1 full month at month of ramadhan
.
when fasting at month of ramadhan, we bealive it's a holy days so we do much of praying to the god, and doing fasting too in the ritual, but the fasting has a meaning in social too
it's makes people learning n remember the other people who has nothing (poor people)
.
so we can respect to them n helping more of them (makes people to become wise n doing good to all people)
.
after 1 full month of fasting we celebrate it on idul fitri (eid mubarak)
the translate of the words is back to purity or become pure again like a child with no sins
but the meaning is, we hope in this days after doing much of pray to the god at 1 full month in the ramadhan + fasting we hope to the god. to makes forgiven from our sins like a child without sins
.
that's why we are apologize to all people surrounded us, if we have doing wrong or doing bad to them. n giving a forgiven too for other people who doin bad to us
in our neighbor, family, parents, sister, brothers, friends, framily branch all of them
.
so in this days we celebrate together n making traditional food like ketupat
.
the reason of ketupat and opor ayam is i dont know because im not a people who studies in the culture of humanist
but there's a meaning in there
because ketupat is hard to make it, and opor ayam is taking long in the process when cook so we make it just in the idul fitri n idul adha (for special days)
.
after doing research there's
philosophy behind it
ketupat with 4 angle has a meaning
sedulur papat limo pancer (it's from java culture, from sunan kalijaga)
n the mean's the ketupat is the ballance of nature with fourth side angle wind direction north south east west, but beside 4 of them there's 5 for a center for controlling
.
4 side wind direction is lust of human n the 5 is our spirit, so when we eat it
.
it's like a symbolic we can defeat our lust after fasting in ramadhan
.
n for opor ayam means actually it's manifest from the food who more ancient called ingkung ayam
ingkung words cames from menengkung (it's java words)
wich means praying to the god with all sincerity so that means opor ayam has similar to this means
.
plus the flavour of this food's using "santen" a.k.a coconut milk
and "santen" words in java has a poem for the meaning of "pangapunten" wich mean i'm sorry or in japanese gomenasai
and ketupat for short called kupat in different region java accent called kopat
there's other poem for this food it's called "kupat santen" / "kopat santen"
n the meaning is "yen ono lepat nyuwun pangapunten" in english said if i have mistakes i'm so sorry doing appologize

but much of people this days didn't know about this philosophy

and by the way there's more different food who has to be serve in idul fitri days
like rendang sapi, semur daging sapi, semur daging kambing, sambel goreng, sate ayam, sate kambing, gule kambing, gule sapi, tongseng etc depending in what region u're because different region has their own traditional food for special days

and ofc there's alwasy has a meaning in them
well for kids this days n teenager for this era much of them didn't know

sekedar info setidaknya kupat atau ketupat itu diciptakan sunan bonang dan orang jawa itu penuh pilosopi dalam sesuatunya, kupat itu kepanjangan dari ngaku lepat (mengakui kesalahan), dan ketupat dibungkus dengan anyam2an yang menandakan rumitnya kehidupan dan dosa tetapi setelah dibuka maka kita temukan nasi putih di dalamnya, yang menggambarkan semangat idul fitri yaitu kembali suci, jadi makan ketupat berisi simbolis dan harapan, sama dengan orang jepang makan osechi tahun baru yang tiap makananya ada artinya seperti panjang umur dsb ^^

Dulu cuman dimakan waktu hari raya ketupat az.tapi karena rasanya enak di jual di warung-warung.jadi hari spesialnya HARI RAYA KETUPAT.
di indonesia tradisi hari raya idul fitri & idul adha umat muslim dirumah biasanya menyediakan ketupat dengan lauk lauk nya sebagai hidangan utama. yg mempunyai arti saling memaafkan.
Hanya ada di Indonesia hari kemenangan idul Fitri meriah begitu pula hidangan nya.. nggak orang kaya atau orang miskin..

Ketupat is rice cake (if i'm not mistaken or at least that is how foreigner call it) and trust me you don't wanna eat ketupat and opor more than 1 portion, it is high carbo. and in idul fitri (lebaran) we use to eat it more than 1 portion hahahahaha...that is because each time we visit neighbor/family/relative/colleague or friend they will served ketupat and opor. and usually beside opor there is 'sambal goreng kentang'---basically it is diced potato with chili, or something like that hehehe---last but no least we eat together with some cracker, or 'kerupuk' in Bahasa Indonesia. sorry for long comment, gomenasaaaii.

In Indonesia we are not just eat ketupat and opor ayam when ied Fitri. Because each region have their own culture. Such my region, we deserved some cake too.. but commonly when you gathering with your family you eat ketupat or nasi kuning..

Ketupat memiliki filosofi. Ketupat berasal dari kata lepat di jawa yang artinya maaf. Jadi ketupat adalah sesuai dengan idul Fitri itu sendiri yaitu saling memaafkan. Biasanya di idul fitri masyarakat Indonesia saling berkunjung ke rumah keluarga, tetangga, dan teman dan berbagi dan bertukar makanan. Kalau di Jawa sendiri ( Jawa tengah, Jawa timur, Jogja ) ketupat ada di hari ke 7 setelah Idul Fitri. Yaitu di hari raya ketupat/ lebaran kecil.
