- Join us for a long e-bike ride on a rainy day here in The Philippines. We started out on an ATM hunting trip which resulted in bad luck (sort of).
Fatima, Kalamansi, and Maria wanted to go shopping for used clothing but I vetoed the idea. We bought pork, fish, and fruit instead of old clothes they'll never wear.
Before we made it home, the ladies clipped me for 100 pesos on some tempura.

I had the same thing happen to me with the ATM. The Phil bank was so cool and processed that return within 3 days. I was so pleased with their service I opened up an account 🤣

My biggest fear is the ATM eating my card and me not having access to cash while in Pinas. I try to always use the machine at the bank but, I'm in the city so there are many banks around.

There's about 6 ATM 🏧 in my town and I deal with that no money cash all the time and I've had the same problem with the ATM chargeing my account and didn't give me cash .

We were thinking of you guys and your bus trip to Cebu! We were waiting 2 weeks ago in the lobby of the Bayfront Hotel in Cebu for our ride to the airport. It's right across the street from the Cebu North Bus Terminal, so easy to watch the busses come and go. Mostly the big yellow Ceres, but we saw a medium size, non-aircon "White Stallion" bus that said "Daanbantayan via Hagnaya"!

I always avoid using standalone ATM machines when traveling for a few reasons. It might swallow your card, shortchange you, give you no cash at all like in your case or the card might be skimmed. It's advisable to use the ATM in the bank during bank opening hours and that way it's unlikely to have a skimming device on it and the other issues can be resolved immediately. That said, perhaps you don't have an actual bank branch there.
@JJBinkers No, but they have cloned your card so they can whenever you choose to enable it which might be after you have returned home unless you follow that process permanently which I doubt. And it wouldn't resolve the other issues that we are talking about. I too have an app for all of my credit cards but never heard of that for a regular ATM card. I have NEVER been skimmed either.

I have to be honest….i thought I was the only one who paid the piper at a Filipino ATM. I got taken for 10K, I didn’t notice right away. I cancelled the transaction after it told me the offered exchange rate and atm fee. I said no, withdrew from my account and no money dispersed.

@JJBinkers fisherman threw it away when the caught it here they treat it as thrash fish that is why no one eat it here. It is in abundance all along the reef and shallow area on the coast. Many things from the sea I see people from Asia eat but here people do not eat it. Ask Philippinos that have lived here and they will tell you. That is not lazy it's just that people do not like it as it is considered as thrash fish, same for many other fish that I see people eating in many videos. Eg Tilapia, needle fish, sting rays, eels, etc..
Sometimes I would just western union myself cash when I'm there.
