This is looking very good, n gauge does clearly have some advantages 👍😊

I created a similar N Gauge layout with an Ingelnook on one end and a two track fiddle yard/team track on the other end. It was about 7” wide and 34” long using Kato Unitrack. Kato makes a good product.

Running trains is god but shunting is even better.
Shame about the Arnold loco, they're normally quite good but I do have to say I have my doubts about the Mehano controllers.
They mostly work fine but I've noticed they don't really go along with some shunters here.
Even though Mehano made some fine models this controller seems just right for the average starter set but there are better ones out there.
Arnold used to produce transformers with a shunting option for their Simplex locos, the ASS.
Sounds a bit weird in English though but combined with a special switch which would enable the loco to uncouple automatically.

I usually use our own excellent PWM controller, but wanted to try something different

@@BudgetModelRailways I bought a couple of these controllers a year back just to try them out but I'm not crazy about them.
Same goes for the basic Hornby controllers, I bought several Arnold sets for the locos but not too crazy about these controllers too but they're cheap so it's not all bad 😄

Are you going to do an update on the shed layout soon? It's a fantastic layout and it was going very well!
I know you prefer N by now and I dont blame you but given that it was a project already ongoing I think me and many others would really like to see the progress if there is any :)

Sorry, it's being slowly broken up. The shed needs a lot of work, insulation mainly, and the layout needs to be removed to allow that. It was never built to be movable, it evolved, so there is no way of saving it. When we rebuild in the shed it will be in N.

That looks like a Mehano controller, can those also be used with Kato Unitrack? Seems harder to find cheap controllers advertised for N than for OO

It's mehano, I've used it with Kato. Our usual controllers, details on our website will also work with unitrack.

I know perhaps I am becoming boring, but do you realise it's 4 months since we had any 00, and that was an Ingonock? Will we ever see the another 00 running again

@@keithwreyford999 I've had a bit of a religious conversion to N, it just works so much better for me, it's cheaper and takes less space, so in many ways meets the budget ethos much better. I'm currently selling off most of my OO. Sorry

The chassis are £20-25 from Kato, the bodies we sell on our website for £10, so inc a bit of postage about £40 for a very nice, great running little diesel Shunter
