Exploring Cooper Creek Walhalla

  • Bit of everything in this video. Was down in Gippsland for work and decided to take the scenic route back. Headed North out of Traralgon to Tyers, then up to Cooper Creek and on to Walhalla Historic Township, with a few side trips along the way.
This trip was done when I 'thought' the electrical problems were solved but was soon to find out they were not. The battery was not charging on friday afternoon and managed to get into an auto elec at Traralgon who believed it was simply loose battery terminals, as once he tightened them it started charging again.
with the benefit of hind sight I know that it'd stopped charging due to rain and a lot of water on the road but the run on the highway from Bairnsdale to Traralgon had generated enough heat to dry it out a bit such that when I stopped at the auto elec. it started charging again......
Bit of rain, water on tracks and ok some mud, only a little mind you! saw the battery not charging again after my saturday lunch stop at Walhalla. Wanting to head towards home and not away from home I kept heading north, knowing full well I might have a limited amount of distance/time I can drive before the battery was completely flat. Wasn't perhaps the best decision I've made...

Love Walhalla, ran lots of trips there. Endless tracks north of Walhalla, BUT unless you’re in company, or know the area, I wouldn’t recommend going there on your own, especially in the wet . Very steep gully’s
    Great work!

Yeah could have done with that advice before hand. Didn't know the area, end up trying to take Burgoyne's, while raining.... anyway you know how this ends :-)

Well if we didn't enjoy it, wouldn't be doing it would we? Cost's too much (especially with diesel price these days!!)

Interestingly, just past the rotunda on the left at 38:15 is the start of the Australian Alps Walking Track. Walking track from Walhalla-Canberra passing through Mount Baw Baw, Mount Skene, up to Mount Howitt, Mount Speculation, Mount Selwyn, through Mount Hotham and the Bogong High Plains, all the way to Cowombat Flat, Limestone Creek and the Main Range, past Mount Jagungal and Kiandra and all the way into Canberra. Walhalla is definitely one of the cooler little towns in the area

Yeah I actually ran into a hiker who was doing that hike on another trip at Native Dog Camp Ground. It'd taken him 20 days to get there from Walhalla!
