    Jason blew a head gasket on his 1989 Mazda B2200.
    Josh and I took it all apart, and replaced the head gasket.
    We also rebuild the cylinder head but that is in a separate video.

    Good video. I've not had a blown head gasket (1988 purchased in 1994); I did a top end rebuild in 2011 though. On my B2200, I couldn't get the cylinder head off because the exhaust studs couldn't clear the exhaust manifold; I had to loosen/remove the exhaust manifold first. Simply removing the negative cable from the battery is sufficient to ensure that none of the electronics will short out. I used two wooden dowels in head bolt holes to readily/temporarily line up the cylinder head upon reassembly. Good time to replace those bypass hoses too. Remember: intake manifold, THEN install the attachment for the bypass hose manifold. I use a 17mm socket on the camshaft gear bolt to turn the engine.

    My 1990 B2200 blew its gasket and it started dripping water too. Hopefully by Sunday I’ll have it up and running again. I’ll comeback to comment once the job is done. But your steps seem like they’re going to be very helpful 😄

    Thanks for your great video. I got a little bit stuck diggin' my way thru to the head-gasket on my 1999 Mazda E2000 van (I have the exact same engine configuration as you have). I had changed the head gasket already years ago, but I think I also removed the complete timing cover and the balancer back then. This time I wanted to remove the upper timing cover only, and I did not know 100% how to remove the timing belt. So in line with your tutorial I went to TDC of cylinder 1 first, and then I opened the 14mm bolt of the tensioner (after unclipping the spring). Then I used a slide-hammer (upwards) to loosen the upper half of the engine block. All good. Normally I fix my collection of Jags all day, but this little detail left me stuck yesterday, but with your video I managed today. Thanks.
    Btw.: I also have my transmission removed currently to replace the oil seals and the dust cover there (incl. the clutch disc, the buggered bearing in the crank-shaft rear end and the rear crank-shaft seal. I managed to find those seals for the transmission after a long search - the parts are the same as for a Mazda Miata.

    Finally I found someone who shows step by step process on rebuilding a gasket on a Mazda, now I’m confident to try it on my own truck, wish me luck . One question, how do I change my factory carburetor for a better one? And what brand? Please let me know.

    a quick easy way is to unbolt exhaust down pipe(not manifold) and un plug lines and hoses then unbolt head bolts then remove the WHOLE TOP END, glue sand paper to a flat board then add a handle then home made sand head, once you have gone down till its flat(use permanent marker on low spots or use blue) once its flat and sanded with 400grt or 800 grt sand paper, brake clean the head surface, then slap the head back on, run engine job done, next
    you do not need to go crazy at such a basic motor
    something like a alloy block with alloy head or an a advanced motor like a VQ35DE you'd get heads planned properly, that F2 or FE is a just a basic 8 or 12 valve sohc engine
    most mazdas from that era had similar engines, the mazda R2 2.2 diesel is the exact same as the mazda F2 2.2 petrol, meaning the parts interchange( in fact they are same blocks but converted to diesel/petrol) F8 is very similar to the F2 and FE it goes, F8 (i.8L, FE 2L, F2 2.2L same series of block and interchange, the R2 is the diesel version of that series of block and parts interchange also(obviously the diesel has its differences like head, injection pump(bolt on, belt ran) but they are very similar in most of other parts

    Hello, Mazda, Mitch. I was wondering if I could get Some ideas or opinion for my truck. I Have an 88 carburated B2200 that leaks oil that I got for free. I am not planning on building a show truck.
    Or lowspider or anything like that. My my plans for the truck are literally. Make something to haul my kayaks go to the trash dump And pull a Small boat. I want to keep it somewhat fuel-efficient still.
    What motor would you go back with?
    The 2.2 l that's in it Or something else. I plan on rebuilding an engine so I have a fresh motor to swap in. What is your recommendations. I know nothing about mazda engines but have rebuilt ford chevy dodge (v8)nissan (vg30 mostly) and toyota motors (r22) in my life.

    • @MazdaMitch
      @MazdaMitch  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The 2.0&2.2 are easy to rebuild and it'll save you a lot of hassle fitting something that wasn't meant for that truck into it.

    you should do a oil pan gasket replacement to!!

    • @MazdaMitch
      @MazdaMitch  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know how to break it to you but there is no gasket that is supposed to be used on the oil pan it's a mated surface and all it's supposed to have is gray RTV. This is in the service manual. Most of the time if people use a court gasket it will leak profusely.

    Did you find the intake port work to make a difference?

    • @MazdaMitch
      @MazdaMitch  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I could not tell a difference. I feel like the engine is too small for that. Works better on larger engines. Larger engines with more displacement can gain 20+25 HP, but this small motor, it was noticeable to me .

    th-cam.com/video/-hSmtLVESSM/w-d-xo.html At 16:40 he tests whether puting lubricant on a bolt being torqued can affect the torque, and lubricating bolts can increase the torque output by double.. Meaning, if a dry bolt torques to 100ft lbs, lubing it with the wrench still at 100ft lbs, will now torque to 200ft lbs. Not like it really matters, but it could.. Something to be aware of. Also, thanks for the video!
