The poster on the wall for the _Two Planks_ as he comes in, we have a saying in the Uk (not just Ireland) _"As thick (stupid) as two short planks"_ I imagine that's a call-back to that phrase. "Thick", "a bit of a thicky" or "thicko" is a fairly mild to moderate insult.

The Two Ronnies were masters at word play, maybe not accents. No one has come close or even tried i dont think. Their word play was very clever. Being from the US, i would imagine its sometimes difficult for you. Ronnie Barker, the taller of the two wrote most of the word play. Maybe you take a look at a documentary of their lives. Barker 1929-2005;Corbett 1930-2016. Barker, was very upset with the BBC towards the end as they opted for more contemporary comedy which disgusted Barker as "Filth" etc. Sadly, the two Ronnies were deemed dinosaurs in the end. I will always appreciate their work. Now that leads me to ; You must have a look at Porridge, Ronnie Barker plays an inmate in prison "doing porridge" (serving a sentence).
