    Janko - so appreciate this video, I’ve watched 3 times and just finalised my spec for car delivering to UK just before Christmas. I did have Classic interior but so much red! Plus reports of windscreen reflections etc. I also paused on buckets and Cup tyres but since driving car at PEC Silverstone with both you feel attached to the chassis. Said to dealer “sorry for late change but blame Janko”😀. As a 981 GTS Cayman owner I will use that for long distance and the Spyder for special drives. Thanks again, love the content and like you if I was lucky to get a 992 GT3 allocation (which I won’t probably), thus is my first GT car and probably a keeper.

    I have a 718 GT4 currently on production hold waiting for the factory to restart. This will not only be my first Porsche GT car, but my first Porsche altogether. I was surprised (and a bit overwhelmed if I'm honest) at the level of personalization that was available, so your comments about the ability to make the car pretty much exactly as you want it are spot on. I only wish you have made this video a few months ago as I would have found it quite helpful when doing my own option selections, specifically the options around the interior materials (i.e. leather wrap steering column, etc.) as I feel like I should have made some different choices there after watching this video. I really like the look of the stealth wrap on your car and I am thinking of doing something similar when my car arrives later this year, albeit I have a different base colour chosen. Looking forward to more videos, specifically some driving impressions once you get a few KM's on the car.

    I lost count how many times that I watched this video. I am presently awaiting my 718 Spyder for September delivery. The build recently locked and the hardest part was selecting a color. Originally, I ordered Shark Blue, but when I saw some Cornflower Blue VWs, I wasn’t really crazy about it. So, I switched to Chalk…manual, LWBS, silver stitching and seat belts and black calibers. I finally settled on steel brakes after much internal debate. It is not a loud “look at me” color/ build, but it fits who I am.

    Good afternoon, Janko,
    Congratulations again on the video. Just when I thought you wouldn't respond to my comment, I was pleasantly surprised that you decided to share it with everyone.
    I agree that everyone has their own philosophy and world around their car, in my case, I couldn't be more pleased with the configuration I have chosen. Thanks again for giving your point of view and sharing with us all the logic that led you to configure your Spyder the way you did.
    My previous comment was only to offer you a new personal point of view, at no time to discuss your criteria.

      Again, thank you for your contribution to our community Sergio. The world is not black and white. When I produce I need to tell MY story but that dose NOT mean I am always right. I'm quite alone in the world appreciating the 4-cyl displacement in the Boxster and Cayman as an example. Please continue to contribute, it gives a nice angle to my videos in a very polite way. I can not see, but you have subscribed, right?

      @@JankoLind I completely agree Janko, it's a pleasure to bring a point of view and be able to share it in such a pleasant way, I will certainly continue to do my bit in your channel. To bring a point of view, the 718 platform works very well dynamically with the 4 cylinder turbo engines, the changes are always difficult to appreciate, and I think that in not much time, we will see these engines as real successors of the original 718 rsk, I think there is room for both engines (6NA & 4T) and I think Porsche offers the best range of sports cars in the world thanks to the variety. I have been a subscriber for two or three months and I am delighted to enjoy your videos.

    Is it possible you could make a video or just a detailed comment on which you compare the 981 Spyder vs the 718 Spyder Janko? After years of admiring the 981 I still find it hard to choose the 718 over it. The sound and experience of the 981 is just on another level in my eyes, plus for the price, compared to the 718 it might be a bargain. In my mind the 981 goes down as one of the all time greats even though it might not have the same precision of the 718. Or is the precision difference between the 981 and 718 even noticeable other than on paper?

      I went for the 981 Spyder and do not regret it. Emotional wise it is so much better than the 718. If you use the Spyder as a track tool the 718 will be the better choice as the suspension is better. Still the suspension of the 981 is not bad at all.

    Very helpful, thanks! Seems to me the red or yellow calipers are about the owner, not the driver. The owner wants everyone to know he could afford the PCCB; the driver just wants the performance. So your choice is right for a driver’s car. (Would be my choice, too.)

    Nice one, Janko. I specced mine as a female GT4! Think Naffi Thiam: a sprinting goddess with muscles. You've seen the pics. It's the yellow one in the black mancave. Yellow is also the historical Belgian racing colour.
    BTW: I do like the Cayman GTS 4,0 very much also. What's not to like? I'd still spec the buckets with it though. If you cannot get out of the buckets, one should go to the gym is what a wise man once said somewhere ;-)

    • @JankoLind

      LOL, I still stick with that statement. Gym first bucket next. GTS 4.0 not sure. Better of with the 2,5 GTS.

  • @MW_SE
    @MW_SE 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great info as always Janko! I completely agree with you regarding brakes color and tire brand! On my RS6 black brakes were standard while red brakes were optional at appr. EUR 450 -- for the 718 GTS it is the other way around (except that the optional black brakes are appr. EUR 800)... Also it appears that all 718 GTS come with P-Zero tires, and since I cannot specify Michelin (neither PS4 nor Cup 2) in my order, I will now have to try to sell the Pirellis and buy my own Michelins and then have the dealer switch before delivery :-(.

    • @JankoLind

    Wow Janko, thank you for your excellent expression of your opinion. At the moment I have the option to buy a 718 Spyder, but I’m really torn between that and a 991.2 GT3 touring. Have been doubting for one year now. What are your thoughts between the two? You’re the only one with reflections I can actually do something with. My plan is to use the car mainly on b-roads. I have had the 987 and 981 boxster and caymen and I loved the open sky in combination with a good chassis. I value engagement and intensity over pure speed. As a result I lean towards the Spyder but I’m really afraid that I will miss the top end sound from the GT3. Thanks!

    • @JankoLind
      @JankoLind  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Very nice spec, it has a lot in common with my own 718 Spyder. I love the stealth look as well as the black calibers and black PORSCHE batch on the rear (too bad that I forgot to order both on my Spyder). Especially when you opt for GT silver I personally like the interior in the same body color as a reminiscence to the historical Spyder. Unfortunately, I did not order GT silver for the AC control panel, as I considered it to be too expensive at that point in time. Now I need to look for an alternative solution.
    I look forward to your first driving review, keep up the good work and stay healthy!

    Another great video Janko. I love the spec of your Spyder. It’s such a shame you simply cannot get one new in the UK. I’ve tried and tried and tried. My dealer (which is one of Porsche’s largest in the UK) gets an allocation of 2 per year! However, I will keep the pressure on and you never know, I might just get the call. I have NO experience with bucket seat and TODAY the Porsche dealer mentioned they are very uncomfortable in large trips and that I should not option them out! Comfort is also key for me (nothing to do with religion here) and I can understand Sergio but still have my doubts!!!! Leaving apart your personal taste and connection with the car for those buckets seats, are they as comfortable as regular seats! Great video and gorgeous SPYDER!!! I am in 100% disagreement with you about the bucket seats. I spent all day at the track driving a SPYDER, GTE & my 911 Turbo S. After 2 hours in the 718 SPYDER I had to get out of the car. My Turbo has the 18-way sport seats and you still have great feel through the car and massive enhancement in comfort level. I have had 5 back spinal surgeries after flying the F-16 for 32 years so I am not choosing the GTS 4.0 because I cannot live with the bucket seats. I don’t give up on my choice of car because of seats!!! I raced Porsches for 10 years back in 1989-1999. So if you drive relaxed you drive faster on the track. Smooth = Quick Times. The other Porsche seats were made for driving Porsches. PS: I am SUBSCRIBED!!!
    Check Six!!!

      Hi Gordy,
      I'm sad to hear about your spinal surgeries and I hope you are fully recovered.
      You are right we are in a disagreement when it comes to the bucket seats and that's the beauty with Porsche, there is no right or wrong, just different religions. With your flying skills, I would buy an airplane before looking at a Porsche GT-car, and then enjoy the comfort with your 911 Turbo.
      Big thanks for your subscription, your contribution to our community, and the time you spend on my channel. Take care.

      For me it was very simple, I could choose he could not. Allocation is hard to get. There is a misunderstanding that this vehicles will not have a limited run but they will. The production time is the same as for the 991.2 GT3 and believe me, that was not enough.
      In the same breath, having a GT car with out a roof, that's something special. Not many produced in the Porsche History and I needed just seconds to decide.

    I did the same mistake on mine not specifying the rear view camera. On my previous 718 with front & rear parking sensor i had the graphics with distance on the PCM. On the Spyder, having only sensors on the rear there is not this and i'm afraid that camera can't be installed later.
    Also for the seats they have been not able to tell me the weight difference between carbon and full carbon seats, so i' ve gone for the former but these are not adjustable in height.

    Janko - Spyders are just starting to appear in the US. On the few models I've recently seen in dealer videos, it appears someone at Porsche has made a terrible design decision to mount the square antenna receiver right between the most beautiful lines (buttresses) on the rear trunk. I assume it is part of the radio/satellite function and there is no radio delete option. I have not seen this on any of the European models and do not understand why this would be different for us here. Why, oh why would they want to put a 'wart' on such beautiful art 😭 ?!?
