I love my invaders and I find them very versatile if you're ok with tweaking your tones to get the sound you want.
Conclusion - it doesnt suck. Its cool with not too much gain from the amp and it can do cleans when split or on the neck pickup
Agreed, it's a perfectly usable pickup and looks pretty cool too.
It works well for many genres. Roll off the volume a pinch and it does well for classic rock even. Split sounds like a thicc single coil. Great pickup. Not perfect IMHO but very good.
@@guitarsaremyfriendzzz7077 Yep, exactly. Is there truly a perfect pickup?
neck invader is really bright, it like sd jazz on steroid.
The first part of this video hit hard. The good ol' days!
Sounds good to me man, but doesn't hurt that your a darn good player 😉
Yes, me too, it was a much cooler time, discovering new bands through MySpace and learning new songs through UG.
Thanks for watching and for the kind words 🤟
It's a great pickup, you just have to use your ears and roll off some gain on the amp, or reduce the volume on your boost pedal slightly. Also, I really like my Invaders with 1 MΩ pots, it adds extra bite and attack.
I've heard that people like to use 1 Meg pots with them, I might have to give it a go.
Karl Sanders is my favorite guitarist
What Nile songs would you recommend a first-time listener?
@@StormbornUK The whole Annihilation of the Wicked release from beginning to end.
Great video and playing!!! 👏👏 May I ask what is the wood of your guitar body?
I read somewhere that Invader pickups work better with woods that deliver more highs than lows-- poplar, for example. Apparently, as the pickup delivers big amounts of bass and low mids, it is preferable to balance it by combining it with woods that tend to sound brigther...
Hey dude, the body is Poplar.
@@DaveViner Awesome! Thanks a lot 🙏
How about on basswood bolt on neck? Im stuck between the invader and the jb/jazz.
@Eish30 No idea, you can't go wrong with JB and Jazz though 👍
I was amazed on how heavy in weight they where compared to a standard Duncan
It would be interesting to compare the weight to a Duncan Distortion, I never really took much notice of the weight of a pickup before!
Haha,
did you look at the back of the guitar just to confirm it has a bolt-on neck?
I agree, I personally think most of the hate is more user error. Yes, the pickups sound somewhat unique, but that's not a bad thing. I actually really like how they sound with a clean tone.
I had to be sure because the Internet says you can't get good sustain from a bolt-on neck 🤠
Ah yes, the wisdom of the online guitar community. Nowadays the pinnacle of their expertise is that pickups don't matter anyway and are just a scam. 😄
I think there are way more things to focus on rather than pickups, if I am honest! But if changing your pickups means you're going to enjoy playing more, then go for it!
I'm pretty sure Rick Scythe from Usurper used an Invader and he never had a muddy tone, it was always really crunchy. It's rumored that James Hetfield had an Invader in his Flying V when he recorded Kill 'em All and that's not a muddy tone at all. Nice picking technique BTW, your really precise on the rhythms.
There have been a fair few users of them over the years, and yes, apparently, James did use them on Kill 'em All. I've never been able to find out if it is true, but I've heard it many, many times!
Had an Invader loaded into a strat for about a week. Was a nope for me. Ran a Duncan Distortion for about a year. That became a nope. Finally settled on a JB. Everyone has their own taste. The Invader just didn't agree with my overall setup/rig. Sounds good with what you've got going on.
Yeah dude, each to their own!
they did play through tube amps with american made guitars. hahahahahaha. so fkn true.
🤣
I had the set in a Warlock for a while, and its definitely got a lot of mids and bass with rolled off highs, which give it that muddy tone, I gave them to my other guitar player when I put dimarzios in the warlock.
What are you using in front of the amp? A drive pedal or an EQ? I can definitely hear an overabundance of low freq output from the pickup.
If you're not cutting lows before the signal reaches the amp you should give that a try. You'll get a lot more clarity and punch from it.
DI into STL Ignite Emissary plugin with High pass filter at 80hz to remove the sub frequencies. Solos are that + basic delay and reverb from Cubase.
Then, the clean tone is Plini X plugin with cab sim turned off. 👍
@@StormbornUKThe Invader isn't bad, its just... rotund. Lol
How does it sound with a low cut in front of the amp at around 150-180hz? A mid boost of a db or two with a Q of 1.4 somewhere in the range of 1k to 1.5k would likely add a significant amount of definition as well.
Another great and simple way to clean up a dark pickup is a tilt EQ in front of the amp at 800hz. Friedman actually has a tilt EQ on a switch (the switch labeled C45 on the back panel) in many of the BE amps. Works wonders to clean things up.
@RX120D Rotund 🤣 that is the best description for it!
Cool, noted! I'll have yo give your suggestions a try! 💪
Aliens Exist.
Blink 182 reference or just stating that they do?
@@StormbornUK both
@thedoobiewizard The real question is: Is Bigfoot an alien?
@@StormbornUK 🤯
@@thedoobiewizard I heard Bigfoot can also time travel/teleport
Nooooooooooooo! Thats super weak man.
Super Weakman sounds like a terrible super hero.
