for me Hugh Grant stole the show, a guy known more for his romcoms and stumbling awkward rich boy roles and he his character was far from that and had brilliant comedic timing and inflection. Loved the scenes with him and Charlie.
IMO, this is Guy Ritchies most mature film to date. It's the culmination of all his previous works, distilled down and then put in a freezer for some cool factor!
There's one more gem down this little London gangster Guy Ritchie rabbit-hole and that is Rocknrolla. Gerard butler, Tom Hardy, Thandiwe Newton, Idris Elba, Mark Strong and probably a few more faces you will recognise. Of the lot it's a very close second place to Snatch in my personal estimation, and if only for the sake of completeness, I'd be very interested to see you guys' take on it :)
This film was way more fun than I expected it to be! The whole line about weed being a lucrative business when it becomes legal is hilarious because the UK is already a huge exporter of weed, including the husband of the former PM Theresa May, who has a huge share in a company that does the former.
Fun fact: all Hugh Grants scenes were filmed over a 4 day period as it was all he had available between other commitments. For me, this is his best role. Great reaction, I would have scored it a little higher personally 👍
Didn't hear you guys mention but that was Hugh Grant. What a stellar job and so different from the norm. (apart from the synopsis) Colin Farrel was just so funny! I mean his delivery was just great. What an amazing movie, One of my most loved. To quote 'Turkish' " it's " Tip Top" ☺
Just finished watching your snatch reaction, absolutely loved it. And I think another great suggestion would be 'Sexy Beast' which since you hadn't watched Snatch I assume you haven't watched 'Sexy Beast'
He's a few of my recommendations for British films: Dead Man's Shoes ( a must see ) Layer Cake, The Long Good Friday, Mona Lisa, RockNrolla, Kill list and A Dark Song which is horror but absolutely fantastic.
@@majormoviemadness9927good review. could you also review Shooters a liverpool crime film it's a must see for the genre and IMO the most realistic british gangster film there's been made. its low budget and it was originally intended to be a documentary but instead the filmmaker used the contacts he made and used them as the actor's they are real faces and villains but it worked so well its real gritty . also suggest Nil by mouth and Made in britain two real gritty films also a great film is Gangster No 1 with paul bettany Probably the most underappreciated British gangster movie .
I like your reactions to the British films, I’d recommend Dead Man’s Shoes for more crime, This Is England by the same director, 24 hour party people (musical biopic), Four Lions (Islamic terrorist satire), 28 Days Later (horror), Shallow Grave (thriller?), that should keep you going! Look forward to more on your channel, great insights.
@@davehoward22 Love Kes but don’t think it’s as accessible to Americans as something like Snatch or Sexy Beast. That’s why I don’t mention Mike Leigh or Ken Loach, Naked is a Favourite film of mine but the accents and slang is very thick!
I thought this was just as enjoyable as Snatch myself. A myriad of characters and a series of unfortunate events leading to a darkly comedic thrill ride. Great performances all round. The only drawback is the need for the protaganist to display ridiculously super-human capabilities of foresight, intel gathering and executions of criminal enterprise.
Great video! Would love to see your reaction to the fantastic new WW1 movie "All Quiet on the Western Front". If you should decide to one day watch it, please choose the great original german dub with english subtitles instead of the subpar english dub. It adds a lot emotion and atmosphere!
Its not as great as the other two, it doesnt reach the same heights and it might be a little too long but it shows that he's still got it! The dialogue and the characters he creates are so damn good.
If you want a film that keeps the fast pacing and constant jumps between multiple groups with slight adjacency to every other group, Rock n' Rolla is the Guy Ritchie film that takes that concept to the Zenith. I think it's his best movie, and I'd love to see what you guys think too. If you're watching Japanese films and want similar vibe, check out Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl.
And a pretty obvious inspiration for The Gentlemen story-wise. Featuring a few guys in smaller roles that end up playing significant roles in Ritchie's gangster films (Alan Ford & Dexter Fletcher).
If you ever want to explore the history of British Crime, have a look at the Ealing Comedies. It's where films like Dr Strangelove come from, I'd start with The Lady Killer's as it's got Peter Seller's and Alec Guinness in it. Very much of the time but still good. In Kind Hearts & Coronets Alec Guinness plays 8 characters. I suppose it saves on who gets the top of the billing
I think we have both seen it. It's one of my favorites so if Richard has not we will add it to the queue. I really love that film. Some of the best scenes are, any and all, with Morgan Freeman and Sir Ben Kingsley. And Lucy Lu played a character outside of what was expected but perfect for her. And Josh Hartnett proved he was more than just scary movies and tween teen rom-coms and could easily do leading man roles. Bruce Willis has so few lines but is a presence as always. His stoic I care a lot and not-at-all badassery is on par with so many other of his films. Love it.
Can I recommend 2 British films that are great. Babylon (1980) Starring Brinsley Ford. It was only given a US release a couple of years ago even though it was released in the UK in 1980. Its a film centered around the Black Dub "Sound Systems" that were a huge part of the black London/UK scene in the 70s and 80s. And 24 Hour Party People starring Steve Coogan. This was released in 2001 and is based on the story of Factory Records and the British music scene that came out of Manchester in the late 80s. Both are brilliant films and the latter of the two is more amusing and less serious than Babylon. Well worth a watch. I've subbed.
I dont know if it just appears this way because i recently watched this movie. But the way you have decided to cut this is extremely annoying/frustrating to watch. It seems almost algorithmic, nothing ever plays out. Compared to your reaction of snatch which I just fully watched and made me feel like I watched the whole movie.
You censored out a lot of offensive words. C*nt Ch*naman etc Except because of cultural differences you missed a big one. Fletcher: I’m not a mong Mong is a hugely offensive work in the uk. More so than cnut or chinam*n Mong mean mongoloid, a terrible word to describe the mentally disabled with, particularly people with downs. Not criticizing you for missing it, just pointing out the interest that you’re trying to be inoffensive but some words you don’t even realize are grossly offensive.
The only reason I’m doing it is because the TH-cam algorithm, depending on the word it can cause an adult label to be posted like it was for sexy beast, which killed our views. Not about being pc, and yeah I kinda knew that that word meant something along those lines
@@majormoviemadness9927 again I wasn’t criticizing. Personally I prefer the movies uncut. The new Guy Ricthie movie is pretty boring compared to lock stock and snatch, but Hugh Grant was good in it. And I'm talking about operation fortune, not the gentlemen (same kind of applies to the gentlemen though, come to think of it)
for me Hugh Grant stole the show, a guy known more for his romcoms and stumbling awkward rich boy roles and he his character was far from that and had brilliant comedic timing and inflection. Loved the scenes with him and Charlie.
He was suing the English papers for what he was doing here
I love that Mickey's workers are all beat to hell, and they're like, "I was impressed. The way they fight, it was on point, gov." 🤣
That's a typical English response to a fight
They're professionals 😊
RockNrolla another great Guy Richie movie
I was just going to comment this! Brilliant film.
Fletcher (Hugh Grant) stole the scenes. Brilliant actor. I want Fletcher Spin-Off 😂❤❤❤

I agree 1000% that it would be dope to see a Collin Farrel and his peeps film. That character was really really fun to watch.
OMG!! So glad you guys are watching it!! Gonna enjoy your reaction for sure!!
This is fantastic. Great to see Guy going back to his roots. Would love to see your take on the man from uncle.
Great reaction. Another Guy Ritchie one you might like is Rock n Rolla. Gerard Butler, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Thandie Newton etc...
Another great film!! You should react to Dead Mans Shoes 👌
Lots of great performances in this movie but Hugh Grant's the MVP imo. Colin Farrell's a close second.

Stay on Guy Ritchie. Go for Rock'n'Rolla!
Layer Cake

Rocknrolla has a lot more similarities to Ritchie’s first two films than The Gentleman, faster pace, more frenetic action and creative edits.
I like Lock Stock 👍🏻

The whole line about weed being a lucrative business when it becomes legal is hilarious because the UK is already a huge exporter of weed, including the husband of the former PM Theresa May, who has a huge share in a company that does the former.
Yet they got people sat in jail for a quarter ounce of weed.. lol
Great way to get out of having to watch Once Upon A Time in America is this British gangster detour xD
I’m kinda happy with it, I’m a huge fan of British gangster flicks
I notice that the actress who plays Laura has more than a passing resemblance to her real dad (Sting).
