I have been watching this movie since I was about 7 years old. I remember me and my buddies would all ride our bikes to the park before school and play a few innings. Those were such fun times. Back when being a kid meant you were told to go play outside and you did. I made friends with kids all over the neighborhood. We rode our bikes and rollerblades up and down the bike trails trying to do tricks and scraping up our knees and elbows. In the winter we'd go over to another one of my buddies houses because his dad let him flood the backyard so we could play ice hockey. I remember falling on my chin and having to go to the hospital for stitches lol. Man being a kid is so lame these days. I feel so bad for them.

They were 12 year old kids and uncontrollable. So the director made a deal. He got them a Playboy magazine and that got them to be cooperative. It was like summer vacation for them.

I actually prefer this movie to Stand By Me just because of the lighter, more up-beat tone. And let's not forget The Outsiders.
BTW, I do remember the milk man coming by our house and both grandparents' houses.

Poor youngsters don't know about the paddle at school -- the one with the holes drilled into it for more smacking power. Also, I had Atari and still played outside almost ALL the time. How could you not go outside if it was nice out? No social media, but that was what the arcade or record store was for -- to meet up with friends and meet new ones.

April 8, 1974. Hank Aaron beat Babe Ruths home run record...it was like paying homage to Hank Aaron forseeing him break the record.

Hank Aaron was the player to break Babe Ruth's home run record, that's why he wanted the card, he could feel it was coming. Also, P.F. Flyers are a real thing and were the most popular shoe of the time.

You'd never see a movie like this made today. Movie kids aren't allowed to act like real kids anymore. The "you play ball like a girl" and kissing the lifeguard alone wouldn't be in anything today. And even though I don't like sexism or assault in general, these are kids. Kids do stupid things. No one was violated or put at any significant risk. The lifeguard pushed him off pretty easily and hopefully he learned a valuable lesson and kids should be allowed to make mistakes as long as no one is actually physically hurt. You just make sure there are consequences to every action. This movie probably has some of the best use of kid logic I've seen in a movie, especially the stuff with The Beast. Too many movies have kids using dialogue or actions that a kid would never do or say. Home Alone was a huge hit because it had a kid who, at times, said and did things that were very adult. Suddenly, every movie and TV show about a family or kids had a kid who was a "little man." Role Models is a great example. A little kid who talks like a young adult. But here, everything seems age appropriate. If anything, the baseball aspect of it is just used as a tool to get to a nostalgic story about these kids and their coming of age. I loved it as a kid and I love it now.

The actor for Smalls later did a criminally underrated one-season crime drama show, "The Black Donnellys," in 2007. Plays a junkie street thug. Superb acting.

And he was recently arrested for brandishing a weapon, and acting like a crazy person...
Smalls has apparently had some IRL struggles.
      He is truly criminally, underrated.

I'd rather be surrounded by the steel frame and walls of an older car than the fiberglass, aluminum and chrome of a newer one. I used to drive a '62 Ambassador. Some idiot in a parking lot driving a newer car ran into the back of my car. Totaled his bumper and grille..didn't even dent mine.

I moved to England right at the end of second grade, and it was like this movie, but with British kids and I was the Odd-ball American who didn't play soccer.
    I was killin them 😅
Shout out to my 4th grade homies and UK mates Chris Priest and James Billings.

The main actor in this movie was recently arrested for some domestic violence involving weapons and he's not doing great these days.
The actor who plays Hamilton Porter (Patrick Renna ) is a TikTok star and has really marketed his fame from this movie.

If you guys want to go in the opposite direction for a baseball movie (adult, more serious), I highly recommend The Natural with Robert Redford. It's actually set in the same time frame as Babe Ruth. Great movie👍

There is a Sandlot 2 as well.
If you like the baseball themed movies you should check out "The Rookie" (2002) with Dennis Quaid which is based on a true story of Jim Morris.
