I love these. It’s like old school Disneyland without having to plan your every second. You just go and get on as many rides as possible and that’s part of the fun. Not just the rides. Scoring on saving ride wait times is awesome. Great sweatshirt. AND yummy lunch. Yay!

I disagree, I like the more casual vlog style where him and his friends are just having fun. These types of videos are way too in depth to me about lines and whatever and while informal to some, its not entertaining.

At rope drop, I personally like to start in adventureland. I like to hit Indy first, then pirates, then haunted mansion. Then come back for Jungle cruise before continuing around the rest of the park.
If you have no need for Space Mountain it’s perfect. Actually, probably better. If you dislike Space Mountain you’re totally in luck 😉
Agreed, we always turn left! But we haven’t been since March 2020 when ROR was virtual and max pass was still a thing. Those were the days

You are a GENIUS. We’re testing these tips right now. Our family (with a stroller) hit 8 rides in the first 2 hours. We’ve been watching Indy and just jumped in line with absolutely no wait - it’s a walk on.

You got to "rope drop rope drop". Words to live by and my plan almost every time I go.
I know almost exactly how you feel about Rise... Last time I was there it broke down while I was on the transport shuttle. Thankfully it was early enough in the evening that I wasn't thinking about it not coming up, however that is probably (IMO) the absolute WORSE place to be for a breakdown. It's like the ultimate tease. You're pumped from Rey and boarding and then right in the middle of the transport stuff the audio goes dead.....
Was a VERY interesting experience once the doors opened though. In hindsight wish I would have pulled out my phone or camera however didn't think of it in the moment.
That’s what happened on Rise with us! We got so close to the show and so we waited. Then we finally get pushed thru to and it breaks right when we are in the first room with Rey. So painful! But we did get MMPs without having LL.
Thanks for mentioning which single rider lines are still going! You’re so right about the 9:00 am opening and holiday traffic. I think you need to redo this same experiment on a Saturday or Sunday with an 8:00 am rope drop.

Good evening Kristen, exactly what is rope drop? We have gotten to the park at park opening example 8am, but they are already letting people inside the park. When do they usually begin allowing people inside the park? An hour before the “opening” time? And is the parking structure open that early?? So confused! I always try to get there early but it never seems early enough, plus I don’t want to get there too early that we can’t park in the structure. Help! 😂😂😂
@@wybie3640 Nowhere else does Disney exhibit more whimsy than in their opening procedures! Disney often allows guests through the turnstiles 30 minutes before their stated opening time. These guests are allowed to roam around Main Street and shop, but are not allowed into the other lands until the stated opening time. In times past, there was an actual rope held by cast members to prevent guests from leaving Main Street. They would remove the rope at the stated opening time, thus the term ‘Rope Drop’. You can imagine the advantage you have if you are in the park and by the castle when they drop that rope. Huge difference that being outside the turnstiles at opening time! Disney often varies how early they let people in before the stated opening time, hence the whimsy! I haven’t been since before Covid, and everything is subject to change, tho!

I love these videos!! Going to Disney for the first time April 19th. We plan on using Genie and LL to ensure we can do as much as we can since who knows when we will be back. I'm 35 and it's my first time. I do like that so many people are able to do alot without it thanks to tips like yours!

This is one of the best videos on Disneyland I’ve ever seen. This is truly how to “do the park.” Amazing that the artificial intelligence team at Disney is not hiring you to help design the Genie algorithm. Lord knows they need it because the Genie emperor has no clothes.

Almost every time I’ve been on Rise the ride goes down and I’ve gotten the pass to come back later. Luckily I’ve also always gotten past the point where the standby and lighting lane merges, if you don’t get there then you don’t get a pass to come back later and just have to wait it out.
Went yesterday, 1/23, and the ride went down while I was on the “transport.” The last time it broke down while I was on the transport, it continued to move till the doors lined up and we exited onto the Star Destroyer like normal. This time we exited though the center door and got to see the behind the scene view of what the transport and turntable look like.
These videos are HUGE!!! Our family will be there in 2 weeks, and we won’t be paying for Genie+. So this is a great resource for us. Thank you so much! Hope we see you & the fam while we’re there. :-)

As a kid I would run to Space Mountain, so waiting at Tomorrowland for rope drop would have been awesome. Thinking like the kid in me.

Hahaha oh no the rain. My husband and I got caught in it at DCA but got on most rides even though it was a holiday. Just didn’t do webslingers or soar because they we 90+ mins.

Yes at rope drop , We do haunted House, part of the Caribbean, Indy ; Then over to big thunder Mountain and then maybe mannahorn and a churro

We had the exact same experience on Indiana Jones in that same spot when we were rode on New Year’s day!
Usually happens when there’s a delay at the unload/load area.
I will need to employ the rules next month on my next visit. Have to complement you on the great video editing of late. Especially since you’ve gone full time, the video quality has increased a great deal (not that it wasn’t good before.) The breezy but precise edits adds so much energy to the videos and makes them a lot of fun to watch. Also love Liz’s Patreon vids.

For someone who goes for an entire day and decides they want to stay until park closes I have been able to do all of Tomorrowland at night in under 5 min each with the exception of space mountain.
15:30 is the exact spot that walt stood at in that famous photo! I stop there all the time!!

Thank goodness our next trip is for three days and I don't have to cram all that in LOL> Good for you for accomplishing this, seemingly impossible task! (PS~ And, no, Autopia is NOT on my to do list)
We went to Disneyland on MLK Monday and arrived at 11:30am. Went directly to Rise and awaited for 1hr30mins. That day The Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain were both closed. Within that day, we did the canoes, Smugglers Run, Big Thunder, The Mark Twain, Matterhorn, Roger Rabbit, Space Mountain, Star Tours, Indiana Jones, Pirates and Jungle Cruise and left by 9:30pm all in wait lines! That was a good day and the besides Rise, we waited in line no more than 40mins and that was either Space Mountain or Indiana Jones. No planning, just watched the wait times on the app. I refuse to spend any more money on the Genie, I have never used it but it sounds like over complication would ruin my fun at the park. But that's just me, old school, I guess. 12 rides in about 9 hours, not bad for a holiday Monday.

Another great video! As a SoCal resident Really appreciate all the videos on how to navigate the parks without Genie plus. However, I have some family coming in from out of town. So we are going to invest in genie plus for the day. Would it be possible to do a video on how to best maximize a G plus pass? I have to assume some of the strategies will be flip-flopped. Curious to know your input! Thanks!
I know I’m not David but I’ll try to help. With genie+: try as much as possible NOT to book a ride with a more than two hour return time as you either need to wait until you’ve used the lightning lane or two hours have passed before you can book another ride. REMEMBER you can only use each lightning lane once so don’t use it when the standby wait time is short (my gauge is 30 minutes or less is a short wait). This may result in you having to hop back and forth in the park. That’s really about it.

My mom was there in MLK day and it definitely was an abnormally busy day. I think an average weekend and definitely weekdays will not be this busy. She said pirates at one point was posted 70 mins!

Wow! They give passes to go on Rise after it goes down at Disneyland? I was at Hollywood Studios first week of December. Rope droped with resort early access and waited about 1.5 hours and the ride went down. They gave us a lightning lane for any attraction BUT Rise, Slinky Dog Dash, or Micky and Minnie's Railroad. I was kinda pissed. I got on Rise later in the day after another standby 1.5 hour wait, but would have been nice to have a pass.

Rise has broken down on me 6 out of the eight times I’ve entered the line. The first five was under the virtual queue system where EVERYONE got a return “fast pass” ticket. The last time was a couple of weeks ago. Waited an hour. Ride broke down. Waited another half hour and decided to turn back under the impression that I would receive a return “fast pass”. Imagine my disappointment that wasn’t the case. They really need to fix the issues on this ride understanding that this is the most technologically advanced ride in existence. Reminds me of the multiple Rocket Rods closures.

Can you make an updated video for families with young kids who may not want to do the big rides? Not sure where to start our day and what to hit first with our young kids who are easily scared and won’t be interested in anything with large drops or that are too fast or scary.

I need to make plans for bringing two nieces in June, completely the opposite of our tried & true plans… Egads, how do we ride all the Fantasyland rides in two days with the least waiting? Obs rope drop Peter Pan first, but then what order of things? Feel very lucky we’ll have 2 days. One niece is 14 and won’t like any of it much, so we’re ok there. She’ll be happy for her sister & will love Haunted Mansion. (But she won’t say so) The younger will be almost 8 and will adore all the magic & princesses. Guessing Genie+ won’t be helping much with this challenge tho. Clearly a nap and back in the evening is required.
Going to Indiana jones is where he messed up. Woulda scored if he had just headed to roger rabbit or btm…but that’s the fun of it--trial and error. I tip my hat to you, Dave

See that’s the thing. That’s what scares me. That Rise of the Resistance could potentially break down. After seeing u experience Rise of the Resistance and it broke down now I am having second thoughts about doing it in the evening. Especially if I don’t go to the parks as often as I used to.
But seeing that u were able to get on made me realize there is still hope lol 😂
I did single rider for Smuggler's Run once and had my own ship. So it is possible to get pilot as a single rider :)
We had a nice gentleman join our group (we were a group of 5) and he mentioned that he was hoping to be a pilot. The CM said he didn't get to choose as a single rider, but we ABSOLUTELY granted his wish! And... since he was wearing a Chewie jacket and facemask, we made sure to activate Chewie mode to make his ride even more special! He was super thankful!
Before covid I would always just ask if I could wait for the pilots seat when I did single rider and they always let me. This was back when they handed out cards tho so likely different now.
@@naderzein2435 We were happy to let the guy be a pilot. We had all already been pilot at least once, so we didn't mind at all. He was happy.

I don't know how you can do Matterhorn so often!! That ride is so great, but it normally knocks me out for the rest of the day.
Only if more people realise that you don't need genie plus,the lines would move quicker because no one is jumping the line, genie plus makes stand by lane longer.
Autopia is curious, but I feel like late at night is when everyone is re-riding the big LL attractions. The hope is that it is all standby at that point. A late night recon of how many people are getting in LLs would be interesting.
Question: why did they have guests walk all the way through that queue at the haunted mansion when it was a walk in? They normally remove the chains and have you walk directly into the first room.
Question: is it true that the que from the entrance to the ride on Indiana Jones is about a half mile??

Can you update this video? Between Pirates, Toon Town and Small World all being closed, I am wondering how this will affect the waiting time for rides in the rest of the park. Especially this coming Spring Break.
Was there today 2/5 crazy. Going back in a month. No dining reservations available is there anyway not to eat at fast food. I’ve eaten more fast food in the last 2 mo than I ever did in the past 10 years.
Was there today. Did everything without G+ we wanted. Stand-by was reasonable. ROTR must have been down in the afternoon. When we hit it at 5:15 pm 45 min wait. Made it to the cars in 25 mins and it shut down just before we boarded the main ride. Ugh.
You should do another run where if you are not in the first part of the rope drop group you try for the New Orleans side of the park. We've done this before and Big Thunder, Haunted Mansion, Pirates, and Splash are all walk-ons in the first hour. Is there something to be said for going where everyone else isn't. Like in DCA, maybe instead of rope dropping Spiderman, you go to Pixar Pier and do Toy Story and Incredicoaster as walk-ons, and just accept the 80 minute wait on Spiderman later in the day? Would be interesting to see which is more efficient.
19-20 rides are very easy to do if you get there at opening. It always has been

How early should we arrive for “rope drop”? Example: park hours opens at 8am, what time should we be parking?
Also, is the parking structure open early enough to arrive at your answer to the first question? I am having so much trouble figuring this out lol. Every time I think I arrive at opening, it seems the park has been open a while, and I don’t want to arrive too early that we can’t park in the structure… thanks in advance if you see this :) really enjoy and appreciate your videos!!! Recently started watching TH-cam videos and I LOVE your channel! We’re planning a trip from NZ next year, it’ll be our kid’s first and possibly only time to Disneyland. I’d love a video of best strategy when you have a kid that’s 9 and wants to go on all the big rides and a kid that’s 2.5 and wants all the character meets (especially princesses) shows and zero height restrictions. With a 5 day pass do you do one day DCA and 4 days Disneyland or 2 days DCA and 3 day’s Disneyland? Is it possible without being split up for the full 5 days?

@@FreshBakedDisney thank you, we unfortunately booked our package without Genie+ not realising the prices would go up but I think we’ll just have to bite the bullet and pay in park what ever the prices are. Is there a good strategy to allow an even mix of big rides and no height restriction rides? Or is it best to focus on one zone/land per day?
Definitely need to do this experiment on a Saturday, at 8AM rope drop, instead of a split day like you did (Monday holiday / Friday night), which isn’t really how most people would be visiting.

Funny to see you “owning the park” David, when you were the very person who taught me how and why to take DL as slow as possible. I’ve strived so hard to follow that perspective, even though we’re not locals. I totally get the point of this useful vlog, and I know it’s not your fave way either, just really chuckling ;)
On Saturday my girlfriend and I did every ride in Disneyland plus attractions. We do it once a year, this time we did it with 2 hours to spare

Question: Does each member in your group need Genie+ to board a single time via Lightning Lane queue, or could that group of 3 - each with Genie+ - theoretically enter that same LL queue 3 times in a day, with each in the group using their Genie+ for the group in turn?
it's not a group thing at all. one per person. if five you go on a ride at one time, all 5 need genie plus.

I don't use Genie. I start at Buzz Lightyear. A lot of people go to Space Mountain first thing. Stop telling people to do rope drop. It's crowded enough. 😁

I agree, I looked and there are 3 in the last 6 days including this one. I also watched the video Theme Park Obsession did so it's also my fault for watching even more content. Its a bit of wait time overload though, I would rather see what going on and new things like the Lunar New year videos and less talk about genie and standing in lines. Way too in the weeds for me.
We just did two videos on lunar new year. the two before that were what's new in merch and what's new in food. literally exactly what you just asked for.

For $20 you get access to lightning lane of several rides at DL AND DCA (if you have park hopper)(I think it’s like 19 rides total). For an ADDITIONAL $20 you can get a separate lightning lane for only rise of the resistance. In DCA the separate lightning lanes are for web slingers and radiator springs racers (these two rides generally fluctuate in pricing depending on how busy it is. Normally from $7 to $20).
