A helpful variation is to install the plate's top surface 1/2" below grade. This will provide the plate with some protection from the infield drag. On game day prior to lining, the plate can be quickly exposed with a broom or field rake. Under no circumstances allow the plate to stand higher than the surrounding ground.

Dang! on the money, for sure. I'll be watching this again before I replace my next home plate. Thanks!

My OCD noticed that home to first was 89' 11.5 inches and home to third was 90' exactly. Not enough to worry about but they weren't the same. I would have also used fresh moist clay without big dry chunks or chop up the old clay and rehydrate it. I have really bad OCD. lol

Was hoping to see how to install a new home plate in a new baseball field. Like how do you know exactly where to put a home plate

If it’s a new field with no first and third bases ever put in you just slap the home plate where you want it and you start from there.
New baseball fields are built from the home plate. If you’re replacing anything you go off your foul poles. A little tip I like to do so I always remember if I’m working off the poles is “fair is always in”

Aren’t the waffle plates intended for safety? A nice cushion when you’re stepping on the plate? It’ll save the knees and ankles.

Not the one shown in this video. This one is very rigid. During installation, the cavities should be tightly packed with soil which will then bond with the underlying ground and add support.

Isnt the pitchers mound measured to the back not the front?
