To clarify the rubber piece that was removed was the rear PAN seal. The MAIN journal of the rotating crankshaft doesn't touch the rear PAN seal. The rear MAIN seal makes contact with the rear main journal 360*
That start with Aiden. In high school dad and got me a 64 Nova SS. 283 4 speed car. I had driven stick just enough to pass my driver's test. It was a 4.88 gear car so easy to learn. I drove it home and was doing OK till I got to a 2 way stop on a hill that I had to make a right turn. I spent 10 minutes at that friggin stop sign trying to figure out how to finagle gas, brake, clutch and steering wheel, before I shut it off. Dad was right behind me laughing. I now live near this intersection and drive through it daily and think to myself what a moron.
With the leaking coating the underside reminded me of one event. My family was racing a steel big block with no power adders circa 84. We drove to the track, switch to drag slicks, removed the mufflers and went racing. During one pass, at an outlaw track, two of us were in the car. Suddenly the smell of oil came through the car. I argued to fix it now but the other said no let's make another pass. We pull up through the lanes and the track personnel waved us to the grass and held up an oil filter pointing to us. We both check the oil pressure which showed 70 pounds. We open the hood and sure enough it was not good news. The hood, engine compartment, transmission and the full underside of the car were dripping a lot of oil. We ran an extra deep oil pan and didn't know how much oil was lost. A friend made a run on that day to get supplies including massive amount of rags. Replaced the filter and filled the engine with oil. After getting back to the pits we scavenged everything to get the searing hot oil wiped down as much as we could. We went back up to run and even the outlaw track was checking if we were dripping. We ran the rest of the da and finished second out of 35 cars. We put the street tires and exhaust on and were set for home. One problem. You could hear bangs of hard steel and steel. We were hurt but could it be that bad considering we made seven passes after the oil down? Our friend towed us home. That car dripped for SIX months. One rod, cam bearings and rod bearings had to be replaced as well as cleaning the debris out of the engine. Phantom and Shawn - didn't want you to feel alone. Guess I fit in with y'all just fine!!!

That frame is plenty strong for anything you throw at it. I have put high up built big blocks in those trucks and beat the he'll out of them. Only weakness is where the steering box bolts to the frame. The mounting hole Crack in the frame. But they make repair kits.

Y’all should get that Squarebody Syndicate series(IDIDIT) shortened steering column to get that extra 2 inches of clearance, they have both floor shift and regular versions. A set of Syndicate series Dakota’s would be choice as well!
Permatex “The Right Stuff” gasket maker is the best ATV sealer I have ever used. There is a 1 minute & a 90 minute version. Comes in the EZ cheesy bottle and gets you back on the street in no time. Flexible and oil resistant. Get THE RIGHT STUFF!

others may have already said this but here goes .... the part Shawn pulled off is the rear oil pan seal as he stated the rear main seal is contained in the rear main cap and the oil pan sets in the cap with a gasket ( the part Shawn pulled out ) . also sometimes you can get the pan off by turning the crank so the front journal is up in the block.

I like using Permatex Right Stuff 1 minute or 90 minute gasket maker depending on the application and how long it takes to install and final torque the bolts. They too come in a "cheez wiz" style dispenser or a tube.

I had a 75 short bed step side. I put a 300hp 327ci Corvette engine in it, just a little more hp than the stock 350 that came in it. I did a 4/6 drop on it and painted it to match the drag boat I towed with it. I put true spokes on it with low-profile tires and got an overdrive for it. It was a great daily and towed my boat all day at 105 mph out across the desert. I had it looking really good after redoing the interior and the bed etc.! I loved that truck. I was shocked to see a 6 cyl / 3 on the floor in yours 99% of these old trucks had a 350 / automatic in them. I do think you paid a lot for it but it has a clean body and that's what you wanted so I guess you are all good to go with your upgrades. Shawn and Phantom, fyi, on a square body with inline 6 or sbc, you can pull driver side motor mount bolt, give it a little gas, and shove a block of wood between mounts. Then you can just pull the pan under the crank and rods!!!! Rolled a few sets of main bearings with a brake rivet in a few!!!
19:45 if you put brake fluid in the engine oil, the nylon camshaft gear and chain guides will become brittle and fall apart wiping out all the valves in the cylinder heads.

Hey sir, brake fluid swells the seal n will stop leaks.... Unfortunately when seals pushed out it probably won't help so much.... They have oversize deal kit for those Incase case is worn out... But brake fluid work on seal leaking engine trans transfer cases but you do t use to much lil at a time.... Awesome job keep up the amazing work...... The northeast loves you...... The main cap has a two-piece seal behind the main bearing on the inside of main camp and that's a oil pan gasket seal that goes against the lower main cap...
If memory serves me right, I had to rotate the crank in steps to remove an oil pan before to clear the crank throws in a 80s truck. Might have jacked up the engine a little too. Yes, that's Not the rear main seal. It's sealing the oil pan.

Funny story my cousin had close to same truck but 454, on way home to the ranch in the Rockies of Alberta. The selling point for him was the immaculate wooden box. So on the way home and there was a mid day thunderstorm and we seen a lightning strike on the ranch so we headed up there and found the tree but had no tools. Luckily it was an old rotted tree so we back into it and knocked it over, but couldn’t just let the thing burn down the ranch and bordering forestry so we threw the tree in back of truck. I had my reservations but my cousin is “always right” so we took the tree and headed for the river and all was fine. However the brain trust of a cousin did not take into account the effect of the air flow on way home which fanned the tree and burnt his pristine box to shit. He thought his precious truck was ruined and pissed as hell only to pass out on the swather ran into tailgate and put a row of square holes the entire width of truck including through a custom air brushed mural on tailgate
So I had a power steering leak on my car at the rack and pinion using 3 bottles a day with 100 miles. I filled it with brake fluid and ran it for a day then refilled it with brake fluid and it fixed my leak entirely. Leak is gone and back to power steering fluid

I was wondering if y'all have ever thought about using a small tool cart stocked with whatever tools you need when working on a vehicle that's in 1 of the stalls away from the main tool boxes. It really saves a lot of time and walking. I had one with a set of wrenches & sockets metric & standard plus a lot of basic tools you use when working on vehicles that I could roll right to the vehicle & kept my main tool box next to my work bench. It would help the kids a lot because I've noticed they spend a lot of time walking back & forth to the toolbox trying to figure out what size socket or wrench to use at times. Just curious because it really does make working on something a lot faster. Thanks for all of the amazing content & making us feel like part of the team/family!!!

I put a bottle of brake fluid in my transmission to swell the o-ring in it. It worked for another 10,000 miles.
Used to manage at oreillys. If you go into your local store and tell them who you are and what you do you’ll at least get a commercial discount for being a business.

Funny story my cousin had close to same truck but 454, on way home to the ranch in the Rockies of Alberta. The selling point for him was the immaculate wooden box. So on the way home and there was a mid day thunderstorm and we seen a lightning strike on the ranch so we headed up there and found the tree but had no tools. Luckily it was an old rotted tree so we back into it and knocked it over, but couldn’t just let the thing burn down the ranch and bordering forestry so we threw the tree in back of truck. I had my reservations but my cousin is “always right” so we took the tree and headed for the river and all was fine. However the brain trust of a cousin did not take into account the effect of the air flow on way home which fanned the tree and burnt his pristine box to shit.
He thought his precious truck was ruined and pissed as hell only to pass out on the swather ran into tailgate and put a row of square holes the entire width of truck including through a custom air brushed mural on tailgate

I work on big trucks the inline configuration for some odd reason makes more torque that's why we run inline motors in big trucks
The easiest way that I found of dropping an oil pan is to remove the engine mount bolts and just Jack it up from the from the dampener with a botljack
Gotta take the motor mount bolts out and jack the engine up and pull the oil pan out
Brake fluid also works in a slipping turbo 350. 1 capful got me 4 more years on my old Square body
Need to buy some rock lights and mount them to the 4 post lifts so you can use without a flash light.

So I had a power steering leak on my car at the rack and pinion using 3 bottles a day with 100 miles. I filled it with brake fluid and ran it for a day then refilled it with brake fluid and it fixed my leak entirely. Leak is gone and back to power steering fluid

buy duo grey pneumatic sockets there not very expensive but they are for impacts and their wobble sockets work great.
You can take out one of the motor mount bolts and jack up the motor and get the pan off
Did you check the crankcase vent to be sure you don't blow that silicone out. Something pushed out that seal

Shawn take motor mount bolts out put dead man jack on crank shaft raise motor 2 to 3 inches pull pan out
Brake fluid in slipping automatic transmission works as well, it swells the material on the friction plates. Don’t take much a couple of ounces.
In stock transmissions only!! It will instantly ruin the 15000$ transmissions that they run because of the Kevlar or carbon clutches will disintegrate.
That is correct, stock transmissions, I don’t think anyone would attempt this in a racing transmission.

Awesome video, Danny!! I've really enjoyed all of these videos with the new burnout truck! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished hotrod!! I was wondering if y'all have ever thought about using a small tool cart stocked with whatever tools you need when working on a vehicle that's in 1 of the stalls away from the main tool boxes. It really saves a lot of time and walking. I had one with a set of wrenches & sockets metric & standard plus a lot of basic tools you use when working on vehicles that I could roll right to the vehicle & kept my main tool box next to my work bench. It would help the kids a lot because I've noticed they spend a lot of time walking back & forth to the toolbox trying to figure out what size socket or wrench to use at times. Just curious because it really does make working on something a lot faster. Thanks for all of the amazing content & making us feel like part of the team/family!!!
I really love this truck. Idk if I could use it for a burnout ride. I see it bagged or a pro touring style. Killer wheels and paint. And slammed. With a procharger ls like Aiden Chevelle.

That clutch is probably full of oil that it slips that easy. That truck should really be fun once you finish. The 55’s clone looks to be doing pretty well at Sick week. Btw
A o ring over the swivel is also a good option
You should make that a sick Burnie truck and take it back w u to Australia next time and do some of the burnout comps when ya race there
Try a o ring on your swivel support to work the same as the tape
If you are looking at the original build sheet and it states auto trans....... Dig a little deeper..... It could be a build mistake and may have an added value??...... Jjust a thought
