Came across your video while going down the Rabbit Hole 😆 Starfish are my current favorite. I was given a tiny one from my BFF for my BIG 40 birthday and fell in love! My local conservatory’s plant sale had a big one like yours with multiple plants in one pot. Repotted them in separate pots and gifted my BFF one back. They are also known as Spear Orchid, so you were in the right track! Great video!

Awww!!! You are so kind :) Gardening should be approachable... I get so turned off by people that have only one way to grow things... and they get angry when people ask "beginner " questions... growing is supposed to be fun and a stress reliever... lol.. I would like to add that I enjoy an adult beverage when I am gardening and making videos... :)

I bought a sansevieria cylindrica starfish that was pot bound, looked great, and looked like a starfish, but I repotted it, it grows from the center, and now looks like it's giving me the finger.
It's beginning to annoy me, but I'm hoping the next leaf will begin to grow and it'll be giving myself the peace sign. Until then, I'm trying not to resent it.

I really didn't like Snake Plants since I was a child. I liked my plants "leafy," but somehow, after watching your excitement. I like them.
The long common one with yellow margins grew to be very "elegant." It twirls and twists but reaches up.
The long common one doesn't twirl, but it grows tall and looks less elegant, but just as nice.
I found a snake plant with white vertical stripes: the plant is smaller, thinner, but looks great in a wide ceramic pot with brown decorative aquarium gravel and a small porcelain duck figurine which looks very warm and "country" on the shoe shelf on my front walk.
I bought a "bird's nest" snake plate with margins that grows well in my master bathroom and makes it look "cleaner."
I found a pale green bird-nest size snake plant that does well on my outside window box.
I saw a star fish snake plant, but I didn't buy it. I think, after this video, I will.
You're a happy person and these plants make me happy too. Haven't killed one, in fact, they're all thriving as I go on with my sometimes busy life, while during a day off. It's fun caring for plants that aren't dead when I get back to them :)

What happened to your ZZ plant? I've been missing see your videos. Yes, life can be overwhelming and quite often, beyond your control. Please take care of yourself first. As vegetable prices are predicted to be going up, would you be interested in starting some indoor vegetable growing? Like you, I live in Canada, too, outdoor vegetable growing does not have a wide window. Thanks for sharing; I always look forward to your videos, but please don't let making videos become a job; it defeats the purpose. Happy New Year : )

    • @PlantzNThings
      @PlantzNThings  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Big ZZ got composted prior to the move... I have loads of babies from that plant.. all is not lost :) as for veggie growing inside... I don't have the space indoors to grow enough to make a difference... I do agree that the cost of produce has gone up way too much and it's hard for the average person to eat healthy.

Hey Bill, I've only just begun watching three or four of your videos... Very nicely done! I am living in a very small town in central Montana and it is one of those endless winters! Lots of 20 below zero stuff. Anyway, I bought what appears to be exactly what you transplanted here... Must not be very common, as videos about it are hard to find. Be well, and yea, we all need some private time now and then!

Greetings from Alabama (Zone 8b). Enjoy you and your vids so much. Rooting Japanese maples, figs, crepe myrtle, and dogwood this week. First attempt and I am also prone to let the watering go longer than I should... We shall see. Gardening on 8 acres, so my time must be, necessarily, spread around a bit. Just getting back into bonsai; ordering supplies, the dang $$ tools, pots, etc. Looking at a 20 yr old juniper (parsonii currently in the ground) to try with as my big project--probably waaay too ambitious but I love a challenge. Noticed mention of your giant bamboo, previous to your move. Hope you were able to bring some with you. I have a small grove, muso if I remember, about ten years old now--totally in love with the crazy stuff. Even we had a hard winter down here this season and all of the green, usually semi evergreen for me, has turned straw colored (we all know what that means but I am continuing to live in denial until I see what recovery i may get this sprig. That will be middle of next month here Usually, anyway--all bets are pretty much off for "the usual" anymore, I suppose, until we establish a new one.
As I said, I am really enjoying your vids--just found them. Hope you are up for many more. Your 56K subscribers are pretty much with me on that based on the comments... No pressure, just saying-ha! I have moved all over the world at least a dozen times--this too (the chaos) shall pass. Love to hear from you when you have time or inclination. fish36330@yahoo.com (Yep, have koi pond)

    Hi Bill...
I love all ur plant video's, i've seen them all and I enjoyed it, I have learned a lot from your video's and still...
Got many tropicals myself, palm trees, dicksonia antarctica ( 9ft High ) yucca rostarata, yucca faxoniana, Yucca Thompsoniana, banana trees, and lots of more...
My last tree that I bought was a Musa Super Dwarf Cavendish.
For some reason is the Musa Dwarf Cavendish easy to find in my country and the Musa Super Dwarf Cavendish hard to find, but hey I have it now :)
Btw, how do you like it in your new home?
Continue to create videos that we all enjoy and appreciate...
You even have plant friends in the Netherlands, and one of them is me...
Happy new year and a very green 2018

      Hi :)
Sounds like you have a Jungle in your home... I love it!!! It's funny how hard it is to find the super dwarf banana... it's usually the same here. but usually they are not labeled well so you have to assume. usually I see the dwarf Cavendish here.
As for my home... I love it! still getting settled... they are coming to finish our stairs next week.. this means we will be displaced again for almost a week... hopefully after that, the house will be done inside... and the builders will not need to come in anymore.
we are still waiting for the go ahead to start using the yard. but the grading is not complete. this will have to wait until spring now.
All the Best in 2018 :)

Love your videos, good to see a new one but can understand how life goes sometimes. Happy New Year, and here's to creating space for what we love! ;D whatever that may be.

Bill, I love ya and miss ya. I'm not half way through your video and I can already tell you are having a great time doing the video :) Keep up the good work! And Happy New Year to you and your hubby! :)
Oh, just finished the video. And I want to say how good of a job you are doing and how it appears to me that you were thoroughly enjoying yourself. Don't give up on the videos. If you need any help with them, give your audience a shout. I'm sure someone can help with the editing (goodness knows the editing is the most lengthy part of the process) or anything else. Take it from someone who podcasted for years and once you "take a break", it's hard to come back to it. That being said, it's your decision and your audience will support you in it :) Happy New Year!

editing isn't so bad :) it's the set up for making a video... I bought some go pros... and trying to set them up to my phone is not as easy as it should be... I\m sure it's not that hard... but as I get older the technology is harder to grasp...lol... also... the pest issue I have been having has been a trial... a lot of plants getting tossed... tired and frustrated... it will get better.

I noticed that single leaf has a root, can you just plant the whole leaf? Will it grow bc it has a root? Thx! Happy New Year.

Try using a skinny stick to poke dirt into roots, like bonsai plant. Then press down. Nice plant.

    Hi Bill! How are you?
Love your plants an videos. Thanks.
I bought a Starfish last year. It only had one stem with 2 small side shoots. It has not grown at all. The flower shop worker said the sides would keep growing, adding on to form the star fan shape. It is now growing a pup. Is this normal? Please let me know what you think.
    Thanks,
    Gerry

hey there... in my experience it is comment for them to stall and not grow for a long period of time... then put out lots of growth .... not sure what's occurring with yours...i find they like a little more water than other succulents.... they don't want to stay wet.. but they like frequent drinks in the summer and a rest in the winter... hope this helped
