    5 ways to dress better in 2022:
    1:59 - Wear fewer colors (neutral colors)
    3:20 - Add a new accessory
    4:29 - Add a collar
    5:16 - Nail your socks (solid colors, no crazy socks)
    6:30 - Find a tailor

    Totally agree about tailoring. I realised that all my jeans and chinos had been about two inches too long - pretty much my whole life. I had them all hemmed and now they look so much better. And it cost less in total than buying a single new pair of jeans (thereby also saving on landfill and resources).

    Out of all the style gurus on social media, your style best matches my own. The one area we have always disagreed, though, is novelty socks. I still think they can add to an outfit when done right, i.e. choosing coordinating colors and appropriate patterns. I do agree that they have no place with nice suiting, but for casual to business casual, they can work and can add a degree of approachability to your style. As always, though, personal comfort level is important too. Thanks for doing such a great job, Brock, and I appreciate your professionalism so much. Still my number 1 style guy! 😁

      Big +1, especially on the weekend or a casual weekday setting a themed/novelty sock can add that subtle pop of fun to an otherwise neutral fit.
      Proceed with caution (e.g. avoid beer or other tacky themes) and likely hold off on too many other accessories if doing so, but give it a shot and see how it goes.
      Happy new year Brock!

      @@roman540 big difference between novelty socks and colored socks. Bold colors etc may have a place but novelty ones just don't in a classic timeless sense of style. Which is what you should be aiming for.

    My style sky-rocketed from the day I started choosing neutral coloured outfit over eye-catchy brighter colours.
    The No.5 is great advice that will make you 10X stylish.Having your extra fabrics tailored makes your outfit even more luxuries.
    For instance,my friends didn't used to complement my outfits before but since I started wearing tailored outfits, they complemented and inquired me about my outfit.
    Apart from above mentioned points adding at least a watch as an accessory is enough to make someone stylish in a crowd.
    I see you as inspiration because like you I am on the shorter frame side and your contents make me feel confident in my own skin.😊❤️

  • @Shahrdad
    @Shahrdad ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think your advice regarding neutral colors is great for most men with paler skin. Those with olive and darker skin can look incredible in brighter and stronger colors. They wear the color, rather than the color wearing them.

  • @karlr750
    @karlr750 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Regarding tailoring, if you can find a brand that fits you well (even for a few items), you can save a lot of money in tailoring expenses. I've mostly been able to avoid getting my shirts tailored, just by shopping around until I found a few brands that worked for me. Furthermore, some alterations are cheaper than others (such as adjusting the length of sleeves and legs). Therefore, I can still save money if I only have to get a few inexpensive alterations.

  • @Zofer-1920
    @Zofer-1920 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Great challenge at the end there! I can attest to how much a difference a tailor makes. I started 2021 by taking a few things to a tailor and it’s been over a year and I’ve made a good standing relationship with mine. It makes a huge difference of how you feel with tailored clothes. Even one article of clothing! Plus, I had a wedding to attend at the end of last year and my tailor knew how to get me the look I wanted for that event. FIND A TAILOR. You won’t be sorry.

    Socks are such a big thing! I've noticed this so much and Uniqlo color socks have helped me so much. When I nail the sock matching, I feel great, but when there's too much contrast between my shoes or trousers, it throws off the feeling of the whole outfit.

    It was one of your previous videos that made me seek out a tailor so fully onboard with the idea now! I bought a suit a few years ago, but I've dropped weight in the meantime. So the trousers were a good 1.5" too big round the waist and the legs, frankly made me look fat! Just before Christmas I took the trousers to a tailor and had the waist taken in and the legs tapered. It was a little over £30 (~$40) And considering the alternative was to buy a complete new suit, at £££s, its such a cost saving!
    Love the channel Brock. Keep up the good work

    Hi Brock,
    I’m a freshman in high school. I’ve been watching your videos for a couple months now, and I have to tell you I’ve fallen in love with them. The aesthetic, the editing, everything is done so well. Even more importantly, I love your style and the style tips you give. They have helped me so much in such a short time. I’m writing this comment as a thank you, but also to get some advice. Since I’m only 14, I’ve had a lot of trouble getting the right clothes. I don’t have the budget for expensive clothes, most adult clothes don’t fit me, and the clothes that I do buy I’ll probably outgrow pretty quickly. Also, Most kids my age are wearing “popular clothes,” which consist of baggy crewnecks and graphic t-shirts. I’m having trouble being stylish and not being overdressed. Also, I’m viewed by most people as being “vain” for caring about the way I present myself. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter, or anyone else reading this comment. Thanks again for the amazing videos and advice! -James

    • @lauropadilla1114
      @lauropadilla1114 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi James. I'd like to offer you a small piece of advice. At one point in my life I was just like you. While my friends glamorized big name brands and baggy clothes, I cared about quality and a proper fit. But with that being said I feel it is a mistake to completely cut out any current style trends. The style for these videos and many others like them are a bit more mature. And although they offer great advice, I would not exclusively use them to dictate your style. Try to implement some modern designs if possible. Something as simple as a modern pair of Jordans or nike might do the trick. They will make you more approachable and relatable. Just make sure it is something you like and that works with your current style.

    Hello, I doubt you’ll ever see this comment but I just wanted to say how grateful I am for your channel! I’m currently closeted transgender man and these videos are very helpful for me. Being raised female, as well as not having a very present father, these videos have provided me resources and information I wouldn’t have been given otherwise. I’m also 5’6, with small shoulders and wide hips, and have been very insecure over my body. Hearing you talk about how confident men don’t care about their height has really helped me in so many ways. The fashion advice you give has been very useful for me too. Thank you for the videos and articles you produce.

  • @JRAnalyzes

    I realized that when it comes to hemming pants, I will obviously hem my dress pants/trousers a bit shorter than my jeans. If my jeans are skinny, I don't mind them being hemmed touching the tongue of my sneaker... but if its a slightly wider slim fit then I won't mind it breaking at least once.. I just think it depends on the style you're going for and type of jeans. For example street wear vs more formal or business casual look with jeans.

    It's so hard to find nice quality cuts for length 25-27" :-(
    I'm really not a fan of rolling up my pant sleeves.

    I haven't come across any videos with tailoring tips. Great advise from this channel and channels like this but no one has offered advise on where to hem the pants for multiple styles and what a good leg opening would be for those styles.
    Tailoring has gotten expensive because of my mistakes and now I have two tailors I use. One to tailor my clothes and another to go to when I messed up on choosing the tapper, the crop and the hem and leg opening.
    Basically I go to the other tailor when I don't want to be embarrassed.

    The pandemic ruined my mental health and my physical appearance followed shortly after. Time to start loving myself again and what better way to start than focusing on the outside as much as I've tried to focus on the inside lately. I miss the sharply dressed, well manicured, healthy, confident me. Back to binging videos on health, wellness, fitness, and dress instead of World of Warcraft and whiskey.
    Also, you can have my novelty socks when you pry them from my cold, dead fingers. I wore them at a conference right before the pandemic and got a ton of complements on my monkstraps and socks both from folks of all ages. Some personalities cannot be silenced! *shakes fist*

    Great video as always Brock! Question on bracelets - was looking at the ones you linked and watched the previous video you did on the topic. If I have wrist size of 6 3/4 - what size bracelet would you recommend for me? I see the ones are on Miansai are 7.5 for medium. Thanks!

    for #3, what do you think of long sleeve polos, or long sleeve mockneck/turtle neck tees to replace those crew neck long sleeve tees?

    I'm trying to understand the 3 colour rule for outfits..what is your opinion on this? Does that mean the shoes, pants and shirt should be 3 colours for example and then not add anymore to it?

    I saw in one of your other videos that you don't live in NYC anymore, but do you have any suggestions of tailors you trusted when you were here? I miss my tailor back in CA that I took everything to.

    100% on the sock tip. and whenever I see someone wearing novelty socks I have to pretend to like them “oh yeah those are cool and fun!” when in reality I’m thinking damn those are ugly as hell.

    Best men's style channel in YT because you actually go to the gym and not preach about what their style should be. You just mainly advice people to what colors to go to and that's basically how it should be. Because not everyone looks good in slim fitted clothes or loose garments.
