'LAVERNE & SHIRLEY' cast reunites to support ailing DAVID 'Squiggy' LANDER at MS Walk

- The "Laverne & Shirley" cast, Penny Marshall, Cindy Williams, Betty Garrett, Michael McKean and producer Garry Marshall, hug, kiss and joke around at the start of the MS Walk at Warner Bros. Studios in Los Angeles in 2000, where they reunite to support Multiple Sclerosis sufferer David L. Lander. David buries his head in Penny's breasts, and later fights to stand up out of his wheelchair to address the crowd.

I fully agree! I adored his memoir "Fall Down Laughing: How Squiggy caught MS and Didn't Tell Nobody" I have MS myself (and coincidentally my name is also Cindy Williams) The book really helped me feel better at a dark moment. I did have a similar experience to one of his where people thought I had been drinking, although it was MS causing me to stumble. I had not heard that David had passed. I loved Lenny and the Squiggtones. He will be missed.
Awwww, throughout this whole video, you can really see the affection that Penny marshall had for David. She just kept on holding him and kissing him. So sweet.

I recently lost a dear friend I was caring for who had MS. David's book gave me so much insight into the disease, and I'll forever be grateful for his honesty and courage for writing it. To see his co-stars and friends be so supportive of him against this disease means more than I can say.
RIP David. Thanks for the memories. You'll always be a part of my childhood.

Well said..After Penny passed I rented the L&S season where they moved to California from the local library.I remembered that was the season where they jumped the shark so to speak..It was goofy humor but I did laugh a bit.But ahh the memories it brought back...
I LOVE Laverne and Shirley. I just ordered the entire series on DVD from Best Buy. Sadly, no stations are showing it any more. I love these guys.

Yep. That show always makes me laugh and cheers me up when I need some cheering. And there's a few episodes that pull on the heartstrings. The Slow Child is such a good episode. Not up to today's PC standards. But it's very touching.
May they both RIP now.

My heart broke seeing him in the chair. Before today (12/18/20), I'd not seen him in the wheelchair. I remembered him as he was back in the day. That's how I choose to remember him, the way he was back in 1980 or so.
This was genuinely heartbreaking to see Squiggy in that condition, and the way the other cast members were looking after him at this event was really awesome. Of course we lost Laverne ,her Pop, Miss Babish and others. They'll be missed! As much as I liked Happy Days and Mork and Mindy, Laverne and Shirley was the show!
David is such a nice guy who brought happiness to so many people. It makes you wonder why things such as this happen to good people like him. He was brilliant on "Laverne and Shirley", a show I loved during its original run, and one that still makes me laugh out loud to this day. I really miss that era of telivision. Sitcoms just aren't the same today - it was a more innocent time, as far as comedies were concerned, but the shows were much funnier without having to resort to vulgar language or situations. "Laverne and Shirley" was one of the best.

That was touching when Penny and Michael kissed David and when he rested his head on Betty's shoulder. I grew up on Laverne, Shirley, Lenny and Squiggy.
That was Cindy that kissed him at the beginning. Can't really tell if Michael kissed him because the camera moved when he went over to David.

David L. Landers had many roles besides Andrew Sgigmund aka "Sqiggy". He was a Ferringe (sp.)on Star Trek:The Next Generation. But I also remember him as the stadium announcer or radio commentator (I'm not sure which) from the movie "A League of their Own", directed by Penny Marshall. RIP Penny.

I was just watching some videos of Lenny and Squiggy playing their music and I was overwhelmed by their talent and humor. We all must fight to rid our world of toxic pollution and toxic drugs, like vaccines, that cause so many illnesses.
He was Principal Squiggy in "Scary Movie." Stay strong David. And RIP Penny Marshall, Garry Marshall, and Betty Garrett.

I've lost friends and family..Even though it was sad in the beginning, I understand now that some ppl can't "handle" being around someone who it disabled. But ALIAS!!! I've gained new true friends...it sounds like you are one to your friend..thank you for the kind words and take care💕

Ironically it was Penny Marshall who died first, in December 2016, just a few months after this event. Penny died about a month before her best friend Carrie Fisher. David Lander passed away four years later in 2020.
Rip David made me laugh during my childhood. Later in life I too have MS. Thanks for being a warrior.

Squiggy was talking about how when he asked the cast of Laverne & Shirley to attend the MS Walk, none of them so much as hesitated...he said "it was all 'where is it, what time should I be there...' and Michael McKean jokingly said "When can we go home?" like that was another question they had asked, and Squiggy repeated it "When can we go home, which was said by one person, I can't recall who, just that he was one cruel sonofabitch" also JOKING and laughingly referring to Michael McKean. It was all in good fun.
I read on IMDb that Eddie Mekka was touring in the musical Grease on stage in 2000. So he may not have been able to come because of that.
MS slowly takes the body, but it never touches the spirit.
