23:19 balancing of ethane with Oxygen was incorrect because on left hand side the oxygen were 14 in number and on the other hand the oxygen were 7 in number.

Alkanes: Saturated, very less reactive single bond
Preparation:
4 reactions
1. From carboxylic acid salt of sodium
Ch3cooh+ na ==> ch3coona=Sodium ethanoate
Catalyst: Cao plus heat
Actually we use naoh plus cao in ratio 3:1 and call it soda lime ( aajkal viraj f dalal main kuch alag Diya Hain)
Ch3coona+naoh===> ch4+ Na2CO3
The carbon on the products side is one more than the required product.
For ethane
Ch3.Ch2.COONa+Naoh==>C2h6+Na2CO3.
2. From metal carbide (only for methane) (probably not in syllabus)
Al4C3+6H2O==>3Ch4+2Al(Oh)3
3. Wurtz Reaction (imp, asked in jee also) (only for ethane, or even number alkenes)
Catalyst: ether
Use Ch3Cl or Ch3I
Ch3Cl+2Na+Ch3Cl==>C2h6+2NaCl
4. Dehalogenation
Mostly iodine is used as it is easily removed, but can use cl, br, etc
Catalyst: Zn/Cu couple
Ch3-I +2[H] ===>Ch4+HI
