it's also the first set i remember ever getting, now that i have the 2008 death star the black stormtrooper sits proudly next to his other 2008 stormtroopers
I could see this being used as a smaller cheaper alternative for the Imperial police gunship that would be used on backwater outer rim worlds like Tatooine where there's not a need for an ISD (at best maybe an Arquitens with a Gozanti or two) and can also double as a cargo transport. AKA, a multi-role gunship/dropship for small presence worlds.
That dropship battle pack was such a god tier set. Super cheap and the vehicle itself had a lot of utility either as a transport or a gunship like a little bird helicopter. Not to mention buying 2 or 3 got you a lot of stormtroopers
It kinda looks like it would fill the role of the real world UH-1 Huey whereas the LAAT is kinda like the Mi-24 Hind. Use it for insertion of recon or special forces types, establishing a foothold somewhere etc
This looks absolutely amazing! Not only does it look like it belongs in the aesthetics of the SW universe, unlike the versions Lego released, it also seems like a realistic vehicle!
@@2bricksI imagine it has a similar function to the MH-6 Little Bird. A small light aircraft that can be used for inserting and exfil of troops, especially special forces who need to be brought in stealthily. Anyways a great design with designs of cool functions in such a small build. Definitely going to be making it.
Like there’s this one type of shuttle that you use to transport to different Flashpoints and other non speeder fast travel points that I’ve wanted to build for a while.
Very well done! You nailed the Star Wars design aesthetic, I guess due to having so much practice with existing designs! I for one would love to see more original pieces from you
OMG I love the look of this thing. Its so reminiscent of the old one while still looking so new and fits right in with Imperial vehicles. Really feels like a smaller and more modern version of the LAAT/le (the patrol gunship we saw in late Clone Wars, Rebels, and Ahsoka).
Awesome. I always felt this ship like a sort of “lighter” or smaller version of the imperial patrol gunship/laat. I think that would be cool to see different kinds of “transport modules”, like the one for troopers, one for weapons only, etc..
Looks great! Reminds me of the cockpit section of the Nu shuttles. In many toys it can detach and be its own ship so If you want to make some lore you can say the imperials repurposed those cockpits as police shuttles.
That's a very very nice design! I love the scale, small, well playable, but very detailed and star warsy. It will defenetly get another like on rebrickable! 😉👍
broo, you absolutely nailed it! Its literally perfect and so professional and its such a good "lego" and not so "moc" design! You definately know what you are doing and all the fans needs people like you😅
I how you put so much thought into such as small package like with the droid brain easter egg and the little station on the pallet for recalling the ship! Even though they're not canon and I've never had any of them, I have a deep affection for all iterations of these imperial dropship sets. I think there might be a third one coming out this year along with a rebel speeder. If so, it would be really cool to see a video comparing all three official Lego versions plus yours!
Damn that’s such a banger of a MOV! As some have said, that was also one of my first Lego Star Wars sets and yours looks just fantastic! I remember really liking the imperial droid brain tie fighter as well, it’s rectangular wings were super cool, so nice addition ^^
I think you could probably make the drop pad for the stormtroopers a little bigger to accomodate more troopers if you wanted, but also most official minifig scale vehicles end up on a tighter scale than their "real world" equivalents, so maybe a full-scale version of this could seat like 6-8 troopers. I wonder if the drop pad would have other systems designed to interface with it, like maybe it's built into some elevator systems in the base so that the troopers get in at some deep sublevel and then carried all the way to the landing pads without having to get out (or getting the opportunity to go AWOL before they reach the battlefield)
I love the design! I can totally seeing this as a small multipurpose drop ship from transporting a small squad of Stormtroopers to transporting proper cargo, and doing it faster than other Imperial transports.
The set looks great, well done! However, I really think the wings should rotate down. It would look cool and also provide cover for the troops during transport. I plan on building it and trying that change out myself.
Nice! 👍 actually had experimented with exactly that idea, but I had the impulse to make the wings bigger and bigger to provide more cover, and it started to feel like I was getting too far away from the original - I’d love to see your take though!!
I also thought it was the coruscant police ship from first shots. Definitely like this upgrading of sets (I don't have nostalgia for the original though 😊), and you nailed it with this one!
FUN! Very cool innovation at play here. The spirit of Star Wars is strong with this one! And to my great surprise, I was the first to give it a "like" on Rebrickable.
Sir i love it. Imo its better than the police gunship Brace yourself, because here comes a rabbithole lol but this build reminds me of the obscure side of Star Wars where we got a lot of ships that are mainstream now but were very niche then. And for some reason i see this existing in the Star Wars: DROIDS show lol and not a bad thing, i love the show. It has that far, far away element, where its in the Star Wars universe but its some world on the outer rim, and the Empire cant budget a bunch of Sentinel shuttles or other tranaports for such insignificant operations, so they use a short range in atmosphere craft to do all of the logistical operation. Maybe they dont always transport troops, maybe its a generator one day, or a munitions stack, or mining equipment, etc. Idk it just has that "real" Star Wars feel. And thats not me hating on LEGOs models, love both of them. But those felt purely for battle and were super sleek, but this just has that Star Wars juice lol
I would say no to that. An AT-ST or hover tank seems way too heavy for it. Maybe a troop/supply transport for backwater outer rim worlds with a small Imperial presence (not needing a huge Imperial presence) that can be a cheaper alternative to the Imperial police gunship.
A really sleek model ! I really like the way you've designed the cockpit, and the solar pannels, while retaining all the previous play functions ! Congrats ! How are your other Star Wars projects moving forward (T-6 Shuttle, Mantis) ? Do you use any software to help you design these models ?
Thanks! The T-6 is almost done but the last part is giving me much trouble. The Mantis, I’m not sure what you’re referring to there because that thing has been done and out! Check out my rebrickable page to see the 2023 version, I’m really proud of it! As to software for design, nope! I design everything using physical bricks first and then simply translate the finished model into bricklink studio to make the instructions
Love your cockpit work. Did you mess around at all trying to use piece 61409 and a combination of brackets and snotted bricks to do the internals of the wings?
Thanks!! I wanted to keep the parts count low so I didn’t mess around with snot wings like that- if I ever do a “more serious” version of the ship I might though! Like one that can carry serious cargo, I think that would be cool!
This is a fully new design that only draws inspiration from the original, so the best thing to do is order the parts on bricklink using the included parts list on rebrickable!
