- Hi! I'm Aleese Lightyear, a 32-year-old Black American living in Beijing, China. I've been in China for 2 years and have experienced life before and during Covid. I'm a teacher here in Beijing and am currently off work for the next 4 weeks because of the Chinese New Year Holiday. Due to Covid, we are advised not to travel outside of Beijing, so I'm doing lots of things to keep me busy.
My day starts off with watching my neighbors do entertaining workouts in the park! The senior citizens of China have the most laid-back lives and watching them brings a big smile to my face! Then I rent a bike and cycle to the gym. Ever wondered what a high-end gym looks like in China? Well, you're going to see what $900 a year will get you!
Beijing is now considered low risk for Covid so the day-to-day restrictions have eased up. You'll see how my gym and taxis have implemented some Covid safety measures.
Life in China allows you to be cashless and you'll get to see how easy it is to use your phone for everything! A little later I go to a cute cafe where I have a snack and get some work done before heading to dinner to meet my friend.
We eat dinner at a classic Chinese restaurant that's in a mall because all the best Chinese restaurants are in malls for some reason?! My friend teaches me how to say all the dishes we order in Chinese...I think I do alright! Afterward, we have a funny conversation about my hair. Being a black woman in China always comes with countless questions about your hair, skin, family, and just everrrrrrything. In the beginning, it's frustrating but you learn to deal with it. When a Chinese friend has questions, I don't mind answering them at all!
My day ends at home, opening a package from the best website in the world: TAOBAO! That's it ya'll! I hope you enjoy watching an average day in my life in Beijing!!

I always found it interesting how vlogs like this give a more accurate, balanced view of China than official news media does. People who are there for work or school usually have no ulterior motives and have no reason to make China look bad. Y'all just show daily life and how normal it is out there.
US government spends 500 million USD a year on anti China propaganda. So news is bais or fake. I love these vlogs as it shows the real China. She doing a great job. Namaste..

I am so glad to find you here on TH-cam talking and showing about the real China and Chinese people. I am sick tired to hear and see the bias and distorted information about China from the mainstream media in the West led by the US. It is so refreshing to see and hear about the daily life in China without political agenda toward to China. I wish I can do the same things in an environment like in Chinese cities where there are so many things can do and so many foods you can choose from. Every time I am back to the US from China, I feel so bored and missing China and Chinese people. How come you are so lucky that you can work and live in Beijing China? The air quality in Chinese cities has improved so much than years ago. The urban planning and infrastructure in China are so much better than American cities even better than top American cities such as NYC. Los Angeles looks like a third world place in compare with some of the 2nd tier cities. Beijing and Shanghai are considered as 1st tier cities.
in western media, including Indian media, Chinese people are prosecuted by CCP on a daily basis and are suffering terribly. LOL
Everyone knows Chinese people and culture are awesome. The government ehhh. Ours is pretty garbage too seeing as how Wallstreet owns them and we're sliding into a depression

basicly living in China is perfect for hardworking people,no discriminaion ,no crimes, no drugs, developed digital society, people here friendly,perfect food, not bad pay(esp in some bigtechs )and affordable prices.... disadvantages are maybe your would just a little tired, get some peer pressure and maybe cannot up to the life standard as your former life in States.

I lived in Shanghai china for 3 years and Beijing for 5. my mom also lived in Beijing for ten more years then me. I miss it a lot

@@AleeseLightyear ha you definitely exude a lot of NY energy. I’m gonna work on getting my TEFL so I can move asap. How hard was it finding work as a teacher? I went to an acting conservatory in the city but they didn’t offer any teaching classes.
@@darkhalo153 Finding work in China is pretty easy as the demand is really high. You don't need much experience to secure a job but don't rely on Chinese schools to give you training. You should be proactive and do some volunteer teaching to adjust to the classroom.

There are!! There are loads of these salad and health food restaurants around, cus I used to order from them all the time lol. I will say, a Chinese salad restaurant usually isn't that great but get your search on with the help of a Chinese friend. Maybe you'll luck up on something?!

Welcome to Beijing!! The mall is in Xicheng district and is called Gallery Lafayette located on a huge shopping street, Xidan North. There are about 6 other mega malls on this street so if you got time, your bound to find something you want

It should not be a sacrifice, but more of being adventurous, exposing oneself beyond one's domain and at the same time in seeking for opportunities that most likely your own country would not be able to provide you with your aspirations and goal accomplishment.

It's a blessing and a curse to live across the street from that park---sometimes I'm so entertained and other times I wake up to super loud distorted dance music at 6am on a Saturday!
