  • Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 sony review after 6 month. This lens is also available for other apsc camera systems but this i specifically a Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary review for Sony apsc.
    Buy the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 on Amazon! amzn.to/3pkhcT5
    I have used it for both video and photos primarily on my Sony a6400 that has no image stabilization in the camera itself.
    0:00 Intro and Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 sample video and photos
    0:40 Zoom range
    1:30 Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 build quality
    3:11 No image stabilization
    3:31 Focus performance. Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 has fast and accurate auto focus. It's not parfocal and has no focus breathing
    3:57 The very close minimum focusing distance of the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 makes it percect for close up photos for product photography and TH-cam reviews.
    4:28 Image quality. The Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 has great image quality.
    5:11 Distortion. The Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 has prominent barrel distortion i RAW photos, but it's very easy to correct in post editing. It also has some vignetting which is easy to correct. The most difficult distortion is the longitudinal chromatic abberation.
    6:10 Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 Bokeh and flare shapes. It has 7 rounded diaphragm blads. The aperture is a constant f2.8 so it won't change exposure when zooming in and out.
    6:56 Summary of the review. Pros and cons of the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8.

    Best zoom lens imo for Sony aps-c cameras is the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8... the sigma however is a seriously close 2nd place zoomlens

    • @gadgetsandtech
      @gadgetsandtech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the Tamron 17-70 is great, I’ve tried it and like it too! Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 has an edge in capabilities because it has a longer zoom range and image stabilization. I prefer the Sigma because it’s smaller. But it all boils down to what kind of photos and video you shot and your visual style you want to achieve.

    Thanks for the review. Your lens copy has any trouble with internal dust?

    • @gadgetsandtech
      @gadgetsandtech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t had any problems with that, but in general lenses that extend when zooming always has a risk of sucking in dust. I did notice some dust on some footage in my review, but that was on the sensor. I decided to keep the footage because it’s more valuable to also show totally unedited footage in the review. Cheers!

    Thank you for the review! I'm going to buy the Sony a6400 and I'm looking for a versatile lens to buy that I can record talking heads and take pics, would this one be it? Do you have any recommendation for lenses that are very compact to take the camera on the go for video and photography? Thanks!

    • @gadgetsandtech
      @gadgetsandtech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d say that a great combo and I many times use it myself. One thing to consider is that neither the lens nor the camera have image stabilization. So if that is important to you you might not wanna go for this combo, but otherwise I think you will be happy with it. Cheers!

    I've been considering replacing my Fuji XC 15-45mm with either this Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 or just getting the Sigma 56mm f1.4 instead. Any suggestion?

    • @gadgetsandtech
      @gadgetsandtech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe Sigma 18-50mm have more similarities with the lens you have. Even if your lens is a bit wider. The Sigma 56mm f1.4 is more of a single application lens suitable for portraits, even if you of course can shot other photos too.

    Tack! Enligt dig fungerar det alltså bra att använda den även utan stabiliseringen? Jag har Sony A6300 och har varit sugen på detta objektiv ett tag, men inte riktigt varit säker på om det är värt det eller inte då den saknar stabiliseringen, medans tamron objektivet som har stabiliseringen å andra sidan är betydligt större och tar inte lika skarpa bilder utifrån vad jag har förstått. Tack igen! :)

    • @gadgetsandtech
      @gadgetsandtech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      För mig funkar det bra utan stabilisering. Sedan kokar det ner till vilken typ av innehåll du primärt skjuter. Jag måste tillägga att jag har en gimbal som jag kan ta till ifall jag verkligen behöver stadigt handfilmat innehåll. Då är den lilla storleken återigen bra, eftersom jag inte behöver balansera om gimbalen när jag zoomar. Men har jag hyfsat stadigt innehåll så går det också att stabilisera litegrann i FCP eller annat redigeringsprogram. Dock med viss crop. När jag tex gör youtube-videos med "talking head" eller unboxing, så filmar jag dessutom på helt vanligt stativ, för då har jag ju fast vinkel hela tiden.

    • @Albinedbom
      @Albinedbom ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gadgetsandtech Tack! Ja alltså jag filmar en del till youtube så det var mycket sånna typer av filmer jag tänkte på. Jag har en gimbal men det är ju skönt att kunna filma utan att behöva konka med sig den också när man ska ut på vandringar och liknande exempelvis

    You mentioned that the Sigma 18-50 F2.8 has spent more time on your camera than the Sony 18-105 F4 lens and the Sigma trio.
    Do you still have the Sony 18-105? Or has the Sigma 18-50 replaced it entirely in the meantime?
    If you would only work with one travel zoom, the Sigma 18-50, would you say it is a better idea to supplement it with a short telephoto lens such as the Sony 85 F1.8 instead of the larger Sony 18-105? Thank you

    • @gadgetsandtech
      @gadgetsandtech  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I still have the 18-105, I just don’t use it as much anymore. Depending on what you primarily shoot, will define your lens line up. 85 f1.8 is great for portraits, maybe a bit too long for some portraits. Eg sigma 56 f1.4 is great for portraits. But 50 2.8 is also good for portraits, so you can shoot it with this zoom too. I would go for a all round zoom lens first. And then if you feel that you need additional lenses to take the photos you want, I would buy it when the actual need occurs. Cheers!

    • @paullafleur6112
      @paullafleur6112 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gadgetsandtech Brilliant. Excellent tips. I was thinking of buying the Sigma 18-50 F2 as an all round zoom instead of the larger Sony 18-105 F4. And pair it with the Sigma trio of 16, 30 and 56 F1.4 primes. Then possibly adding a short telephoto prime such as the Sony 85 F1.8 to address the missed longer focal length opportunities that the Sony 18-105 F4 catches. Use case is compact travel and street photography kit. Thank you for the response! Cheers

    • @gadgetsandtech

      @gadgetsandtech  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@riccardobasco the sigma is also shaper and it has better backlight performance in case your shoot against the sun or other light source. Overall it’s just a much better lens in my opinion.

    So this lens is fully weather sealed? Thanks

    • @gadgetsandtech
      @gadgetsandtech  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know the definition of fully weather sealed. Sigma calls it “Mount with dust and splash resistant structure” on their website. Cheers! www.sigma-global.com/en/lenses/c021_18_50_28/

      @argersgulka5761 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just the mount part has a rubber sealing but the body of the lens seems not unfortunately, nor they say anything about it. At least that will keep water from getting inside the camera...

    @kotsios1600 ปีที่แล้ว

    But is is not weather sealed?

    • @gadgetsandtech
      @gadgetsandtech  ปีที่แล้ว

      At the time I reviewed sigma advertized it as weather sealed . Maybe they don’t do that anymore? It still has a gasket though and is at least partially sealed. If you google "sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 weather sealed" you will most likely get many contemporary reviews claiming it’s weather sealed. Cheers!
