    I don't remember the others on MotD now coming out in support of Lineker asking him to return the £1.6m he received from Qatar TV when he later spoke out against the countries humans right record.

    I don't remember such outrage when Andrew Neil, during the long period when he was a political presenter for the BBC, regularly tweeted his own (right of centre) political views, or when Lineker himself tweeted criticisms of Jeremy Corbyn in the past.
    It's funny how his comments criticising the Tory government and home secretary, with the high profile Tory donor Richard Sharp the BBC chairman and Robbie Gibb who has worked for numerous Tory politicians including Theresa May when she was PM, have been the ones to stir the hornets nest. It's of course nothing more than Tory and right-wing snowflakes at work again. Remember the people who criticised cancel culture and then wanted Guto Harri canceled by GB News for taking the knee on air.

  • @ianz9916
    @ianz9916 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It is clearly a freedom of speech issue. Nobody believes Lineker is speaking for the BBC on his twitter account. He didn't say anything that was illegal and was only offensive to people who want to be offended for the sake of being offended. As a Jewish man, I didn't see anything wrong in his comparison of the language being used, and I find it insulting that a few ignorant Politicians choose to be offended on my behalf. Without pundits Match Of The Day is a pointless programme as Sky can provide all the highlights anyway. If our society is so fragile that it can't take a few opinions by a sports presenter without going into a frenzy then we are on the slippery slope towards the Chinese and Russian model. It isn't a matter of agreeing with what Lineker has said, it is about his right to say it.

    Linekers comments weren't politically biased, he merely said that the rhetoric wasn't dissimilar to the 1930's Nazi party, and many people who are professionals in that area like human rights organisations agree. Jordans wrong. The rules apply less strictly to him bcs he's not a direct employee of the BBC plus he's a sports presenter. Andrew Neil on the other hand who was a political reporter which the rules apply most strictly to, was as active on twitter as Lineker and more political and biased, but nothing happened to him. Also nothing happened to Alan Sugar for tweeting to not allow Corbyn to win the election one day before the election.
    The BBC Director General was a Tory councillor, and the Chairman is a Tory donor, sits on a right wing think tank started by Thatcher, and helped Johnson with his personal finances just before Johnson appointed him to the BBC chairman role. See a pattern??? So yes there's a problem with BBC bias, but it's not Gary Lineker who's the problem.

    Whether you like Gary Lineker or not - what the BBC did was massively hypocritical, they should then do the same for all presenters and staff. Simon Jordan hasn't got a problem with Andrew Neil sharing his opinion all the time because it's right wing and aligns with him. Why was it ok for Linekar and the BBC to take a political stance on Qatar and nothing happen but fine to have outrage and lead to sackings for this group?! Linekar didn't share his opinion on the BBC this time (he did for Qatar) it was a tweet on his personal account. And SJ's point about his followers derive from his BBC role is silly because that's the case for all presenters then including SJ and Talksport... if its enforced every where then free speech is done because a company contractually can buy it! BBC is a state sponsored broadcaster spewing propaganda of the state (i.e. anti-iranian propaganda that other UK media networks don't).
